Publisher's Summary
A new queen has usurped the throne and is leading Cenaria into disaster. The country has become a broken realm with a threadbare army, little food, and no hope. Kylar Stern plans to reinstate his closest friend Logan as King, but can he really get away with murder? In the north, the Godking’s death has thrown Khalidor into civil war. To gain the upper hand, one faction attempts to raise the goddess Khali herself. But they are playing with volatile powers, and trigger conflict on a vast scale. Seven armies will converge to save - or destroy - an entire continent.
Kylar has finally learnt the bitter cost of immortality, and is faced with a task only he can complete. To save his friends, and perhaps his enemies, he must assassinate a goddess. Failure will doom the south. Success will cost him everything he’s ever loved.

A good end to a a good series
With some time between the second and third books in the Night Angel trilogy I was quickly able to pick back up the story and the characters. Brent Weeks increases the pace and action in the third book as there was a lot that had to happen to tie up the overarching story lines. Some of it does feel like it is rushed and could have benefited with more time to expand upon.
The conclusion is however satisfying. There is certainly enough left unsaid to create opportunities for future expansion on this setting but there is no glaringly unanswered questions or disappointment.
The narration is well done, easy to listen to with good character definition.
The Night Angel trilogy was enjoyable and surprisingly epic in the final chapter if a bit rushed. I would recommend it if you are looking for some decent Fantasy to add to your library.

Night Angel is brilliant!
The third and final book in the Night Angel trilogy, Beyond the Shadows is absolutely brilliant. Kylar is bonded to Vi, Jenine is married to the new Godking Dorian and believes Logan Gyre dead, Durzo Blint returns new danger around the Black Barrow rears its ugly head. Once again Paul Boehmer delivers an awesome performance of the audiobook. Brent Weeks just keeps getting better with every book he writes.

A good read
This is a great book in the night angel trilogy. This book has depth, complexity and intrigue without sacrificing action, pace or believability. The build up is excellent and the crescendo near the end feels suitably epic.
The narrator is on brilliant form giving a nice rich tone to the book and allowing you to feel the subtle differences in the cultures.
One word of warning - not all the ends will be tied up, and you may like me, be waiting for another series to be written.

Improves as it moves
This is the third in the night angel trilogy. Each one has its own story building on the last and both explaining and entwining new themes. The trilogy is very good and as he last this is the best. If you read Brandon Sanderson you would love these. The plots and the details are very good. At times it does feel a tad YA and there is a thin vein of too overt Christian morality which is a bit irritating- and I’m a Christian. But it doesn’t spoil the magic and the story which I recommend.
I read a review about the reader which said he wasn’t very good. I’m very surprised. He is excellent I sometimes forgot he was reading all the parts. I’m going to buy the book to re read it. Enjoy!

puts into perspective how great lightbringer is
if your going to do world building in a trilogy waiting till the third book to try and expand enough on it to try and invest your reader can be a bit overwhelming and under beak

Greath story and narrator
Great story line, action filled, full of suspense and a slight undertone of emotion/romance.
Narrator changes accents and tone to match different characters and less monotone compared to others.

My favourite book series so far!!!
This is the third time I've now made my through this trilogy but the first time I've listened to it via audible, absolutely loved it and found myself becoming more emotionally invested than when I've read it myself.

I swear the narrator is actually getting worse.
I really struggled with this one. Enjoyed the paperbacks years ago so maybe just the narrator. The guy is terrible and manages to combine aggravating and boring at the same time.

Read this trilogy!
Absolutely fantastic read. I will be buying the physical copies. If you like fantasy twists and turns and emotion then give it a listen. 20 hours for each book but never once feels that long. Absolutely loved this series!

Good, Very good, not brilliant but has potential !
Take this a review of the trilogy not just this book. Overall it takes some starting but when it gets going it is pulls you along. there is the usuall good v bad but that is the points. There is not too much over blown magic and some of the sub stories are good and entertaining as the weve there way together
In my opinion the book has a number of interesting characters and some others that dont really get developed like the people at the chantry that appear from know where towards the end. Overall though it is a good read/listen. The narrator does well to bring the characters to life and the plots twists and turn are quite good.
I ll finish by saying that if you have read The wheel of time (Robert Jordan) and Lord of the rings you may find yourself comparing storylines/characters but it is original enough to make it all worthwhile.
Yes i will read more of Brent Weeks and be keen to follow the characters in future books.

gorgeous
it wasn't till I tried to describe it that I realised it followed so many tropes. They just kinda fell into place.it was subtle how it all became so grandiose in the end. reading the lightbringer series same time and at the end I favoured this just that bit more. Though both are beloved

This is an incredible trilogy. Definitely wish there was more. If only the author would do like what they did with the star wars movies and go back to Durzo's time!
