Publisher's Summary

The last thing Lacy Green needs is trouble - and handsome Mayor Drake Randolph has "danger" written all over him...especially when "His Fineness" accidentally runs her off the road. Despite Drake's sensuous charm, irresistible magnetism, and unwavering determination to make amends, she's thinking it might be smart to play it safe and keep her distance...if only his lips weren't so inviting.

But trouble comes from a different source when Lacy, as the head of Detroit's Environmental Protection Department, launches an investigation into the activities of a ruthless developer. Suddenly, Lacy becomes a target, dragged down into a swamp of greed, corruption...and murder. Now Drake Randolph might be the only one in Motown who can keep Lacy alive....

Love it, Love it, Love it!

Drake and Lacey’s story is my favorite of the 3 Vachon siblings. Galen's spirit lives on! Those dark beauties are hard to resist. Memorable side characters and 2 bad actors with no redeeming qualities. The narration is excellent! I highly recommend it.

The worst BJ book I've ever listen to!

Who wrote this!!! This is not the work of BJ who's writings I've come to love. Then to add insult to injury, the narrator!! UUGGG! There is no connection at all in the little I was able to tolerate. I have never returned a BJ book until now.

Spunky Heroine

I enjoy the stories of Beverly Jenkins. This is the first time I read one not based on the history and romantic perspective but more mystery and drama. It proved to me that her pen is so diverse. The narration was on point and between the story and the drama I remained intrigued.

Could have been better

The biggest issue is the narration. I had to force myself finish the book but I hated listening to the narrator. Please do yourself a favor and get someone who can actually do female and male voices or have two narrators female and male. Also there were points stated in this book that didn’t flow with the other two books. At one point the book referenced Drake as the youngest but he is actually the middle brother. Reading this story was far better than listening to it. If I could return the audio I would.

Story-yes, narration-no

As usual Ms Jenkins knocked it out of the park however, the narration left me confused . The character voices were not always consistent and the voice for Lacy had me thinking I was listening to an episode of "It's A Different World" , the Whitney character! Would enjoy listening to more titles in this series but maybe with a different narrator.

Awful,. Disappointed in Beverly Jenkins

This book is awful!! The story and the narration are so stereotypical . The phony so called "ghetto" dialect, the all to typical story of inner city corruption...boring, lacks imagination and a huge disappointment. Stick with the historical novels that teach more about the contributions of African Americans have made to this country rather than this novel of inner city graft. Please don't assume that every Black person speaks Ebonics.

I love the story bit not so much the narrator..

I love the book so much but a bit let down by the narrators voice. I honestly would replay certain parts of over again because the voice would throw me off. But I did love the book. I like all three books ( The edge of midnight, The edge of dawn and Black lace) .
