Sound effects and background noises too loud

The sound effects and background noises are too loud in comparison to the voice actors’ reading. The voice actors speak quickly and quietly, in comparison to the loud AF sound effects, so it was a very difficult listen. I paid for it though so I’m listening to it…

words please. not soud effects and useless music.

I have loved this series for a long time. this could have worked if not for the overpowering background nonsense. the original narration was beyond perfect.

Awful mixing

More often than not the narrator is overpowered by the sound effects and music. Don't waste time on this, some of graphic audios stuff is bearable but this one is particularly awful. Even when characters are screaming they still can't be understood. I already read the book so I know what happens and even I couldn't figure out what was going on at times. Such wasted potential.

Great acting, good audio, awful mixing

I love this book and I really wanted to love this adaptation, but the audio mixing was just too messy to process. During action scenes, it seemed like a few words out of every sentence would get lose in the sounds of grunts and clangs. It's honestly a real shame because I love the voice actors they chose, I love the delivery, it's all a really cool idea, but it's just too difficult to listen to. If they ever release a version with the music and sound effects partially muted, I'll buy it in a heartbeat, but for now I recommend the normal audiobook.

Very Poor Work

I greatly enjoyed this series having first listened to it as a normal audiobook-which I recommend. That is why I rate the story highly, because the story itself is good.

This 'adaptation' however is not. I was expecting an audio drama similar to the Hitchhiker's guide or the BBC's Lord of the Rings radio series. This is very much not that.

Rather, it is a narrator reading the book word for word with voice actors reading character's spoken or thought lines as they come up, with music and sound effects added. The material is simply not adapted to an audio drama format at all in terms of script.

This could still work except that the music is constant, overpowers the actors' lines, and often doesn't match the scene very well. The sound effects are also too loud and overpowering. Add in that the actors, all the actors, seem to have a desperate hunger for the surrounding scenery and what you get is an poorly mixed, poorly directed, badly overacted mess.

I got through about an hour before requesting g a refund.

Do yourself a favor and get the standard audiobook instead. One talented reader does a much better job than this full cast.

My first Graphic Audio

I’m so disappointed I went with the graphic audio. I have already read this book so I knew I liked it, but my husband prefers audio and I thought this would be a good way to introduce him to the series. No. The voice actors were so over-the-top. It made me like the characters the less because they came across as entirely too dramatic. Too whiny, too wimpy, too everything. I get that you sort of have to compensate for the lack of visuals, but this was just not enjoyable to me. I also thought the background “music” was distracting and almost overpowering, and there were COMMERCIALS between book parts. Never again. I will only download regular narration books.

WTF?

This was horrible! The background noise and music and whatever was going on was so loud and unbearable I could only listen for a few minutes. I skipped ahead to see if it got better, it did not! I can't believe anyone listened to this and thought it was a good idea to put it out. My god it's tremendously bad!
