Story
Mercenary Casia Greythorne cares about two things: completing whatever her latest job is and earning enough coin to buy the expensive medicine that's keeping her mentor alive. So when the king himself offers her a job, she can't resist the massive reward he offers - even if it means working with Captain Elander, the arrogant, mysterious right-hand to that king. Her partner may be infuriating, but at least their mission seems simple and quick enough: investigate the origins of the strange plague that's been ravaging their empire, help find a cure, and then call it a day.

When everything is on the line, how far will you go to protect those you love? What if the cost of saving them is your soul? Would you pay it? I thought I was prepared for what was coming; that if I made sacrifices, I could win this game. I’m no longer afraid of the darkness or the monsters that hide in the shadows. I’ve become what I feared most, allowing it in to protect those I loved. Sometimes it takes a monster to win. Sometimes to fight monsters, you have to become one. My only fear is…can I come back from it?

Great Ending to the Series!
Now that was an epic ending! This book was by far the best in the series, it was everything I had hoped for and more. This book had tons of action, chemistry and twists. Without giving anything away, all I can say is I really liked this entire series for it's world building, characters and the love story too ;)

I want to choke her!!!
Get on with it already! This book just keeps getting worse. The female sorry excuse for a character is so annoying frustrating and just plain dumb!
She is so immature extremely childish and beyond selfish!!
Naive Isn't even the correct word for how ignorant and stupid this little piss ant of a character is.
She continues to allow everyone around her to get captured including herself and its not because of her magic. Its because she is to stupid to realize anything.
I honestly do not know what this writer was thinking when she created this character.
She makes me almost hate her and mot really like her or the light bitch of a queen.
And this narrator is so annoying with her huffing in the mic and breathing so loud and yelling and the dramatics is just to much.
She makes this character so much worse with her snobby bitchy tones and breathy breathing. UGH! ITS WEIRD BECAUSE I AM CAUGHT UP IN THE STORY. IF I WASN'T SO DRAWN INTO THIS I WOULD HAVE STOPPED LISTENING AT BOOK 1.

Slowwwwww moving
I liked the other books in this series but this one was just not good. I had to skip so much because the author took forever to progress the tiniest bit. The main character wanted to think she was some kind of bad*ss yet had to be saved every five minutes. Oh and the ending sucked.

Disappointing
This 4th book was definitely disappointing. I get why the other readers were frustrated. The main character Ember did very annoying things and didn’t act like a heroine at all. I was often yelling at her to go and do something like I’m watching a bad scary movie lol. I still love the story and the characters of this storyline, but this last installment could have been so much better.

can't stand the overly dramatic girls
this has been a fun story to listen to. but holy these girls take too seriously and take things too far and yet for the people that deserve the anger and show compassion. Erked my nerves, especially the way Kennedy treated Ember. pathetic and annoying. other then that I enjoyed this. not my favorite but good. I also really liked the narrator. She does a great job

Good conclusion
Hea? Couple? Yes world? No not really
Performance of the voice actor was good.
I would have preferred a duel or duet narration but beggars can’t be choosers.
Smut level is about a 5/10 I did enjoy the sexual scenes.
I enjoyed the pixies, Wes and the unseelie king and I’ll be reading the other series by Stacey set in the same world.
This is a prequel to savage lands and there’s also the other series out about the Druid and lorcan and then later on the unseelie king.
4 star series im looking forward to Wes and the savage lands

***Hate the ending***
I'm seriously pissed how this series ended. Come on did so many characters has to die including poor Jared? And wow I've always love the fmc but not on this story she is reckless, stupid and whiny and got everyone killed. a huge disappointment for me sorry Stacey I loved u girl but this ending suck big time. And pls used a narrator who can do a male voice better. No offend Michelle Sparkes but your perfect as the female voices but terrible as the males. There was no difference at all. sorry
