Publisher's Summary

He wanted me for my blood....

Living on the run was all I'd ever known. My life was unstable, but at least I wasn't alone. That all changed when my mother was murdered.

I ran from the unknown creatures she'd always feared until the day I stopped being afraid. That was my first mistake.

Cashel Blackthorne took me as his captive, but more than that, he opened my eyes to the terrible truth of the world.

Vampires exist, and I am the key to their salvation.

The Blackthorne vampires need my blood, but their prince desires more - me. There's something between us neither of us can deny. He is my captor, but I'll be his ruin.

Contains mature themes.

Sexy vampires & plot twists abound!

Kim writes some of the best vampires, so I knew this would be good! The rich history of the Blackthorn Vampires and other paranormal creatures in this world brings a lot to the series. Cashel is a brooding vampire with devastating levels of sexy who was a pleasure to read for all his cockiness, all his well-earned bravado, and his eventual experience with true love. Olivia is special for many reasons, and her character growth in this first book is very well done! The cruelty, secrets, lies, intrigue, and shifting alliances make this story thrilling to experience! All the characters are complex and interesting and I'm really looking forward to learning more about this world in the rest of this series!

I am primarily #NarratorMotivated, so choosing this as my next book was a no brainer. Aaron & Emma are amazing & both deliver fantastic performances in this one! They bring so much emotion to the characters that you can really get lost in the story.

I REALLY REALLY TRIED

Sometimes, for whatever reason, you come across an audiobook that should’ve ticked all your boxes, should’ve tempted and teased you with its addictive riveting storyline and should’ve stopped you from doubling-up the speed to get to the end.. but sadly this book wasn’t one of them. I personally couldn’t connect to the characters and there was little romance.. just a tortured vampire who fought the connection and pull to a woman with very special blood who he’d stolen and given to his King to save his race. And, in this slow-to-build romance, his captive suffered - mentally, physically and emotionally as she pieced together the fragments of clues to the Vampire race and mourned her losses. It was slow-going for me so that’s why I eventually doubled the speed to get to the finish line - and, hand on heart, it did eventually became more of what I was expecting towards the end.. but sadly my hopes then died with the cliffhanger ending.. because I won’t be buying book 2.

Worth a credit? Sadly I struggled with this so it’s a no from me.. however, I‘m sure others will love it. I’d initially bought book 0.5 and this one together and, after book 0.5 I regretted my decision - but still decided to give this book a try.. but even the excellent dual POV duet style five star narration by Aaron and Emma couldn’t save this for me.

Could NOT stop listening....awake until 4:30AM!!!

Cashul (sp?) and Olivia have a constant push/pull with each other that they couldn't ignore. However, to give in means certain death for them both. Olivia has the opportunity to save the lives of all vampire kind. Cashul is sent on a mission to obtain Olivia for the Blackthorne vampire clan by his sadistic father. Once they arrive, Elias cannot resist and feeds on Olivia, almost killing her in front of Cashul. Cashul wants to protect her, but doing so means keeping his distance. When Olivia betrays him, she he have the strength to forgive her?

As always, Aaron Shedlock and Emma Wilder knocked thus performance out of the park!!!!!

SO. FREAKING. GOOD! 🔥

Spellbinding, completely addictive, and thoroughly seductive. I am OBSESSED with this story and Cashel Blackthorne. No one does sexy vampires like Kim Loraine. Any one who knows me knows how much I loved her Fallen Angel series. I couldn’t shut up about it and my love for Galen, but Blood Captive and Cashel have absolutely left them in the dust. Without a doubt.

Just when I thought this story couldn’t get better, Emma Wilder and Aaron Shedlock come along with stellar narrations and take an amazing story up a notch to epic! Emma Wilder was perfection as Oliva and I swear to Jesus that Aaron Shedlock was absolutely hypnotic and utterly captivating as Cashel. All I can say is I. WANT. MORE! 5 stars.

Different Twist on Vamps

Hi, my name is Suzi and I have a Vampire addiction that has gone from movies now into books. We all know the general trope and rules of vampire books; K. Loraine has re-Vamped the tale into something that equates to a total page turner for me. The story line of Cashel's Blackthorne family and the relationship to Olivia, whose blood is special and could be a cure of sorts is completely revolutionary to Vampire folklore. Really enjoyed the character development and slow build of how these two enemies become more to each other.

When I didn't think the story could get better, Loraine brought in two PHENOMENAL performers to narrate the series. I have a #GirlCrush on Emma Wilder and she does not disappoint. When Olivia is panicking and at her lowest moments, Wilder's performance takes over my emotions & I want to be there to comfort her. The other character voices she provides in this dual narration are blended well and she shines with her masculine voices, too! And then there is Aaron Shedlock...I'm BLOWN AWAY by his Cashel - it was not his voice I heard in my head when I read the book - so when he first came on the scene I was floored. The longer his audio portion builds in the narrative the more I fall further and further into the hypnotic control that Shedlock gives to Cashel. I'm really impressed & cannot wait to hear more in book two and three.

BRAVO - Give Me More Please!

Weak story

I won’t read the 2nd or 3rd books, especially after reading their descriptions, but if they are as thin on story as this one, they should have all been combined as one, better edited, standalone.

The plot is thin, and blatant redundancy is used as filler to extend the book to a minimum requirement for it to be sold as a trilogy (to make more profit). Besides the plot being thin at many points, there are some places where the characters act confusingly and it isn’t clear why they do things they do. Not to mention inconsistencies, like powers showing up or mysterious unused only when it benefits the story: if he’s an empath, why can’t he tell when she has to lie to him to protect him???

Not worth the credit/cost.

Narration is mostly great. No issue with that part.

I NEED more!!💜

Great Story! Thrilling, intriguing, sexy and mysterious. This romance will have you on the edge of your seat. The secrets, the deceit, the forbidden need and the chemistry between these characters will hold you captive.
The narration is absolutely amazing, although I would have enjoyed more of the Cashel’s chapters.
This is book 1 in this series with a cliffhanger.
I can’t wait for the release of books 2 & 3.
I highly recommend this book.

Vampire catnip!

The following ratings are out of 5:

The heroine: Olivia Stewart - Her mother was murdered one year ago. As she lay dying, she told Olivia to run. Her mother had been crazy, always moving them from town to town, saying that monsters were after her blood.

The Hero: Cashel Blackthorne - he is one of the Blackthorne vampires, son to the King. He finds the woman they have been searching for and brings her to Blackthorne manor to be a pet for the King.

The Story: Olivia is taken against her will and held captive in a mansion full of vampires who wanted her blood. They said her blood was sunshine. She had to cover her scent with rose oil or she would be at risk from all the vampires in the manor. Cashel is her only safety but she is not safe from him and she isn’t for him, but for the King.

This book was told in dual points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Emma Wilder and Aaron Shedlock. Emma Wilder has a soft feminine voice and she portrays anxiety well with her voice. Aaron Shedlock has a gravely voice that works for the mysterious vampire that is Cashel.

The vampires had a plan and needed Olivia’s blood to cure sun sickness which is a disease that is killing vampires. Olivia is descended from a line of powerful magic. Her bloodline used to hold sunshine that could kill vampires. Though the blood was diluted through the years and when her mother died, she got the magic in her blood. Small amounts of blood would keep the remaining vampires alive.

Cashel was responsible for her safety, they told her that vampires would want to drain her dry and she was safer there than anywhere else where her fate might be the same as her mother. This all reminded me a lot of True Blood when it turned out Sookie was part Fairy and vampires craved her blood.

We find out early on that Cashel is somewhat trustworthy and that his father, the King, is the kind of vampire who likes to torment those around him. He wants Olivia for himself and would eventually drain her dry when he couldn’t stop himself even if killing her would mean the end of his race. This was a good alpha vampire captive romance with an original twist.

Loving this series

This series is off to a great start; packed with action and drama. I just love Aaron’s voice; such a sexy vampire. I like Emma’s narration much more than Kylie’s. The storyline is intriguing and keeps me coming back for more. On to the next book!

Vampires as they should be

If you like vampire stories, and I mean real vampire stories. Those were the vampires are the bad guys and do bad guy things, this is the book (trilogy) for you. Now, don’t get me wrong, Cashel has some redeeming moments but overall, if you are going in expecting a swoony, lovey dovey vamp, you’re going to be disappointed.

The title should give you a big hint, but just in case it isn’t clear enough, there are some dark moment within this story.

I loved how this story is crafted in a way that you are invested from the get-go. At first wanting to know why Olivia is so special, and then wanting to know more about the Blackthorne family and their history. Why they need Olivia so badly. Not to mention the pull between Cashel and Olivia. The tension and enemies to lovers feel will have you routing for them and cursing when they don’t do what you want.

I can’t wait for book two. Blood Traitor.

Aaron Shedlock and Emma Wilder voice the audiobooks, and it is primarily from Olivia’s point of view, so Emma carries the bulk of this book, and she is brilliant. I loved how she voiced Olivia, and her voice for the men was nothing short of fabulous. The scent work was too-notch. Aaron was great as Cashel.

Deliciously Dark

Wow I devoured this! Love a dark PNR. Listened to the audio version and narrators did a great job bringing these characters to life ❤️
The vampires are dying and Olivia’s rare blood is the key. She is kidnapped by Cashel Blackthorn and taken back to his father the cruel king. Cash feels something for Olivia but is too hell bent on trying to please his father. She is treated poorly by all the Blackthorn vampires all the while if they had shown her an an ounce of decency this big hearted girl would happily help them.
Warning this is a cliffhanger ending but book 2 is available. I for one can’t wait to get my teeth into it 🤷🏼‍♀️
