Publisher's Summary

Walter Mosley's infamous Detective Easy Rawlins is back, with a new mystery to solve on the sun-soaked streets of Southern California.

Ezekiel "Easy" Porterhouse Rawlins is an unlicensed private investigator turned hard-boiled detective always willing to do what it takes to get things done in the racially charged, dark underbelly of Los Angeles.

But when Easy is approached by a shell-shocked Vietnam War veteran - a young White man who claims to have gotten into a fight protecting a White woman from a Black man - he knows he shouldn't take the case.

Though he sees nothing but trouble in the brooding ex-soldier's eyes, Easy, a vet himself, feels a kinship form between them. Easy embarks on an investigation that takes him from mountaintops to the desert, through South Central and into sex clubs and the homes of the fabulously wealthy, facing hippies, the mob, and old friends perhaps more dangerous than anyone else.

Set against the social and political upheaval of the late 1960s, Blood Grove is ultimately a story about survival, not only of the body but also the soul.

Widely hailed as "incomparable" (Chicago Tribune) and "dazzling" (Tampa Bay Times), Walter Mosley proves that he's at the top of his game in this bold return to the endlessly entertaining series that has kept fans on their toes for years.

Lots of stuff...nothing that really mattered

I’ve really enjoyed following Easy Rawlins on his many quests. I’ve loved getting to watch his family and friends grow around him. And I was truly excited about this book. Unfortunately, this book was disappointing.

I could barely keep up with the rotating characters. Characters that we’ve grown to know and love, like Mouse, Fearless, and Jackson had minor roles in this story for no other reason than to give them cameos. There was nothing of true substance in their appearances. There was no depth. Mr. Mosley apparently just put them in the book to appease his longtime readers - however, it did just the opposite.

And the Feather storyline got annoying, along with Uncle Milo. The continual negative interactions with the police was also annoying. It was over the top. I mean, we get it. There are a bunch of racist cops. Point taken. Now give us some more story and less sensationalism.

After waiting for nearly five years for this Easy Rawlins book, I’m really disappointed.

The narration was okay. The book was a C-

Easy Rawlings makes it better everytime

This book is another teaching about what you will and will not do under pressure. Easy is all of us. Except he has the tools, experience, and expertise to deal in and out of the system.
Easy is a good guy that gets bad reviews from bad guys in and out of uniform that tamper with his ideas of what is right, wrong or just plain stupid.
His moral compass is again on display as this single father of non-bio children maneuvers in and out of the lives of Los Angelenos.
Always he brings light to the dark mystery with the clever investigation, quick fist, blazing guns, patience and persistance. Blood Grove provided me with the respite I needed from the everyday political turmoil, the hassle and hustle of the stock markets, and the relentless pandemic.
I welcomed Easy and a nice drink with a great smoke. Thank goodness I could turn off the TV I read and recommend it

Its Walter Mosley, Exactly what I was hoping for.

I love everything about this book. I want to know more about Easy and the other characters. Mouse is so evil, but a good evil to play with a frequently used quote I don't need to repeat. Thank you Walter Mosley

Not worth the wait😕

The Devil in the Blue Dress is my all time favorite book. I watched the movie over twenty-five times. I have read every Easy Rawlins book thereafter. So to say that I’ve been waiting for this book is an understatement. But unfortunately Blood Grove fell short. I think the main distraction was attempting to included every character’s name from previous books. It felt forced and it distracted from the story for me personally.

Great! One the best Easy Rawlins stories yet!

The narration was very good and the story was engaging and the evolution of Easy's life at this stage was definitely probable. A good solid ending as well. I highly recommend it.

Every Easy Rawlins story demonstrates his fight against criminals and the justice system. A shame!
