We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Publisher's Summary
The legacy of the Black Dagger Brotherhood continues in a spin-off series from the number-one New York Times best-selling author....
Paradise, blooded daughter of the king's first advisor, is ready to break free from the restrictive life of an aristocratic female. Her strategy? Join the Black Dagger Brotherhood's training center program and learn to fight for herself, think for herself...be herself. It's a good plan until everything goes wrong. The schooling is unfathomably difficult, the other recruits feel more like enemies than allies, and it's very clear that the brother in charge, Butch O'Neal, aka the Dhestroyer, is having serious problems in his own life.
And that's before she falls in love with a fellow classmate. Craeg, a common civilian, is nothing her father would ever want for her but everything she could ask for in a male. As an act of violence threatens to tear apart the entire program and the erotic pull between them grows irresistible, Paradise is tested in ways she never anticipated - and left wondering whether she's strong enough to claim her own power...on the field and off.

BDB Spin Off Does Not Disappoint!
I was skeptical about JR Ward doing a spin off of the BDB series, and was afraid it would be more of a young adult novel due to the main storyline being about a training class. However,
I should've had more faith, this was classic JR Ward all the way, and I loved the spin off!
Blood Kiss does introduce us to some younger characters which is refreshing, but I was happy to see there was a strong presence of some of the original BDB characters including two of my favorite Vishous, and Butch. While the main plot is about Craeg and Paradise, the subplot with Butch and Marissa tied in nicely.
JR Ward is my favorite author! She knows how to write an awesome story that's full of romance, action and surprises.
This story was well worth the credit, and time well spent! I can't wait for the next book in the series. :-)

YES!
I loved this book, truly had the feel of the first books in the series, took you back the start o the first trainees. She explores the psyche of Butch and Marissah. How things in their past has been affecting their behavior in and out of their mating. The new recruits on the scene are dealing with troubles of their own, some have lost their families in the raids and have nothing and no one left. New love is on the bloom or is it, our heroine and leading man are struggling to find their own paths in life. Like most you adults. there is a murder mystery to so and lots and lots of laughter.

12/7/15 First Listen
Love me some BDB! This is a new side series in the BDB Series and gives you a nice dose of the brothers along with new characters. I love the new characters too! So glad to see that the BDB World won't be ending anytime soon!
1/12/18 Second Listen
I am re-listening to this series from the beginning now that book 3 is out. I have to say I think I may actually like this book even more the second time. I love how all of the trainees are very different and I really like that there are females in training too. It'd great how much of the BDB world is in this book too. It doesn't feel like a spin off to me, It feels like a BDB book all the way. This book reminds me of the days the boys were first starting their training and that was one of my favorite times in the BDB series.
As always I love Jim Frangione. He will always be the brotherhood to me! What I don't love is that he has changed how he pronounced a lot of things before. I know he was pronouncing them wrong before but after over 10 books it's too late to change IMHO. For example, Xhex will always be ZEX to me and never Hex.

Ugh! So far, sooo disappointed...
Any additional comments?
Let me start by saying that I'm a huge J.R.Ward fan. I've voraciously read each and every word of every BDB book. The first three were my FAV!
I had such high hopes for this one. Well, I've made it to chapter 8 and so far, I'm bored to death!! YAWN. I cannot keep up with the introduction of new characters AND the story line? It's so boring, it can't keep my attention!! Where's the romance? Where's the bonding scent? Where's the love story? Where's the sexual tension?
I will keep plodding along...hoping that SOMETHING pulls me in and grabs my attention like all the others. Wish me luck. Anyone else have this problem and found it worth going on?
I'll update in a couple of more chapters. Fingers crossed!

Still got it
J.R. Ward has a very particular style of writing and vernacular. While sometimes the use of over the top vernacular and name dropping can get a little wearisome, her stories are always a fun read in my opinion. At least she mixes it up and keeps it interesting! I hope she continues with the BDB Legacy series.

Wish it had focused more on Paradise & Craeg
This was a frustrating read for me. I loved the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. So when this came out I was so excited. Don't get me wrong, overall I liked the book. It wasn't the best ever, but it was ok.
The part that frustrated me about this book is that I got so involved in the new hires and the whole Craeg and Paradise story, that anytime it got interrupted I was so annoyed!
***Don't be fooled, this book is only half about their love story. The other half is about Butch and Marissa. I thought we already heard their story, why was SO much of this book about them?! I think J.R. Ward could had made this book a little bit more focused on the new love birds, instead of the problems of the old birds.
If you liked the Black Dagger series, you'll want to read this so go ahead and add it to your cart =)

Predictable plot, but nonetheless a great story!
If you are an avid J.R. Ward reader, you probably saw where the story was going to go from a mile away. There was also nothing too interesting about the new characters that were introduced in the book.
Nevertheless, one does not pick up a Ward book for for political intrigue or some deep realization about the human condition. J.R. Ward writes lip-bitingly good sex scenes and she has delivered it. Worth the read (and future re-read on lonely nights I'm sure).

it was an ok book. Deff not her best but passable
i can't say it was a great book because it wasn't I guess the problem for me was that the story line just went too fast like the protagonists literally fell in love in like a week like some hot n bothered hormonal teenagers!! I'm just saying that compared to her other books this one just really lacked on every point I personally would have not have spent my money or my credit if I'd had known it would turn out to be this blah 👎 yawn
