Story
Another nightmare, in the woods this time. Different: She was running. Trying to escape. But the same ending. Always the same ending. Another dead girl…. Emma Rayburn was born and raised in Baron Hollow, North Carolina. It was a quiet life, then came the accident … and the nightmares - each filled with unshakable visions of darkness, blind panic, and desperate women chased toward inevitable death. With no reports of local women missing or found dead, Emma has written it off to troubled imaginings - night after dreaded night. Until her sister arrives.

The woman’s body was found in the early morning, on a bench in a New York City playground. She was clean, her hair neatly arranged, her makeup carefully applied. But other things were very wrong - like the tattoo and piercings, clearly new. The clothes, decades out of date. The fatal wound hidden beneath a ribbon around her neck. And the note: Bad Mommy, written in crayon as if by a child.

Publisher's Summary
New York Times bestselling author Kay Hooper takes us to the outer reaches of fear in Blood Ties, as the Special Crimes Unit is targeted by a monster intent on destroying both Noah Bishop and his people.
A series of grisly murders has left a trail of blood across three states, bringing the Special Crimes Unit to a small Tennessee town. There, two more brutal killings lure Noah Bishop and the SCU into what may be the ultimate trap, and lead Special Agent Hollis Templeton into a dangerous attraction - and a serial murder investigation that turns very, very personal. In her time with the SCU, Hollis has shown an uncanny ability to survive even the deadliest attacks. But what she can’t know is that this killer intends to destroy the team from within. As the body count climbs, and Bishop and his agents race to uncover the true identity of their enemy, not even their special senses can warn them just how bloody, and how terrifyingly close, the truth will be.

Horrible
I believe this is the first audio book that I've not been able to finish. I thought it was about a murder but then the story line would turn to the relationships of the psychic characters so I started thinking that it was really about the group of psychic detectives, then it went back to the murder. I couldn't figure out if the murder was an afterthought or what. Terrible narration, terrible story line, hideous characters. I would not recommend this book to anyone and would like to redeem my credit for another book entirely! Save your credits and your money.

Sorry I spent money for this book!
This story was so hard to follow with all of its various characters coming in at different times during the story. The "Reader" was terrible. Her "male" voices were a joke. Any chance at making them romantic was ridiculous. She made them sound like something out of Spanky and our Gang. I'm sorry I spent good money on this book.

Classic Kay Hooper
This is a classic Kay Hooper story, she has been on my favorite author list for a long while. This is the first of her books I've gotten on audio. A couple of complaints I've read in previous reviews, the story can be a little hard to follow, especially when you start with this book. There are several predecessors that introduced the majority of "players" in this book, and a lot of history... definitely start with her earlier works. I think that the narrator did pretty well considering the sheer number of characters, though I think it would have been easier to "listen to" with a couple of narrators. Other than that I have nothing bad to say, I'm sure I'll listen to the story again, though I am tempted to dust off all of the paperbacks of the previous stories, and start over.

Great book but not for a first read
This is a terrific book IF you have already read the other books in the Bishop series. I absolutely loved reading about all the characters I've met in all the other books. The number of characters would be overwhelming to someone who hasn't read the previous books. I can understand why some of the previous reviewers had a hard time with this book. It is absolutely not the book to start with but if you've been reading this series (especially since the beginning) it is awesome! You have to read the other two books in the Blood series first because the plot is complicated and ties directly to the other two books.
As for the narrator, I have no problem with her. The narration is typical Joyce Bean. If you've listened to her before, this is nothing different.
In a nutshell, fantastic book for Kay Hooper fans.

Mediocre at best.
What would have made Blood Ties better?
If you want a frilly investigation novel that is based on speculation and magical telepathic powers, you may enjoy the book. There isn't one ounce of actual research on FBI/police methods of investigation. Lots of romance junk.

narrator was pretty bad, sorry to say.
I don't like saying negative things, but I felt like the narrator simply decided the only difference between men's voices are how deep they are. other than that, I was very pleased with the book.
