Dr Jekyll, a charming doctor explores the possibility of dividing the dark and light side of her personality, but in doing this she creates a monster, Eleanor Hyde. For many years she manages to live under the radar, keeping her dark secret unknown to those around her. An exploration of human duality and forces of good and evil, this modern retelling is compelling and eerie and retains the disturbing nature of the original text.

Story
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Publisher's Summary
Gold Winner for Best Drama Special at the 2018 New York Festivals® International Radio Awards.
Seventeenth-century England, and a plough uncovers a grisly skull in the furrows of a farmer's field. The skull disappears, but its malefic influence begins to work in insidious ways upon the nearby village of Hexbridge. First, the cows stop milking and the fruit turns rotten on the trees. Then, an insolent ungodliness takes hold of the local children, mysterious fur patches appear on limbs and people start disappearing....
Something evil is stirring in the woods. Something that is corrupting the village youth, who retreat to the woodland deeps to play their pernicious games. Hysteria spreads as it becomes clear that the devil has come to Hexbridge, to incarnate himself on earth. Can the villagers, led by the Squire Middleton (Mark Gatiss) and Reverend Fallowfield (Reece Shearsmith), prevent the devil gaining human form?

A decent production of a puritanical mess
Maybe I was just in the wrong mood for this fundamentalist proto MRA business about lying, sexy, devil-women making false rape accusations against innocent, heroic clergymen. I like horror stuff and demon stuff, but this is so exactly what actual people actually believed during the Satanic Panic, or Qanon as it is known today, that I felt too grossed out by the moralism to enjoy the ritual murder. Remember, kids, Satan is not real and can't hurt you! But the church is real, and it can. The church has a much stronger record of organized abuse than Satan has ever had.

Satanic Horror at it's best!
This audio adaptation of Blood on Satan's Claw is as enjoyable to listen to as the film was to watch. This is a creepy tale that begins in the furrows of a ploughed field and leads to demonic possession of school children in a rural 17th Century English village, with plenty of supernatural happenings along the way. The acting and sound production are top notch and Blood on Satan's Claw is probably best listened to with the lights on, as this is a story dripping with a creepy macabre atmosphere.
This is an audio drama and not a narrated audiobook but the performances from the whole cast are superb and they bring this good old fashioned horror tale to life in this well produced 'Audible Original' dramatisation.
Blood on Satan's Claw is highly recommended for anyone who likes a scary horror story at bedtime.

It was great but
This was a wonderful story. The different characters and sound effects it was perfect. If I had any complaints it would be the bit of confusion I had without the narrative like where they were, at times I wondered who was speaking. Nonetheless I loved it. It was great I just wish it were longer.

The League of Gentlemen go full horror
I had been a fan of the movie for some years (a great example of the folk horror genre) and knew that it had been an influence on the League of Gentlemen team -- they even did a commentary for the recent Blu-Ray re-release. Having them now partake in a reimagined audio version is a sheer joy! The entire cast is phenomenal (including Linda Hayden from the original film) and deliver excellent performances.
The story itself adheres closely to the original, but places (understandably) more emphasis on the dialogue between characters. As such, there are some great new lines ("Do you like my crown? It's made of things that grow!") and the horror placed in the realm of the imagination, rather than wonky 1970s special effects.
This is highly recommended to fans of the League, or of horror in general. In the wake of a folk horror renaissance, it's nice to have this reminder of its roots.

Good idea
Would you try another book written by the authors or narrated by the narrators?
No I would not try another book by this writer. I had not realized it was a drams. At times it was good, at others it was very disappointing and frankly quit rubbish
Has Blood on Satan's Claw put you off other books in this genre?
No I like this genre in general, just not this one
Did the narrators do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?
No narrator, it's all actors' voices.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Blood on Satan's Claw?
Most of them

Okay for a time filler...
Picked this up for a short time filler. I was left feeling as though it could have been so much better. The general outline of the story is intriguing, but I found the performance to be a little confusing, with it sometimes difficult to differentiate between the main characters. The storyline itself was a little weak, though Audible do a good job of adding the ' bells and whistles' background audio, which helps set the scene.
All in all, quite disappointing.

A Toe-Curling Screamer!
Deliciously creepy, spooky sound effects and at times some high quality screaming. Engaging acting, devil worship and mysterious events. Audible have packed it all and more into a two and half hour speeding bullet of a traditional horror story.
Once again they have assembled a high quality cast to ensure that the acting is of a very high standard. The production values are rich and the sound quality gives a deliciously creepy atmosphere.
If an interlude of good old-fashioned bloody horror appeals to you then just turn the lights off, sit back and spend your time with Blood on Satan's Claw.

Missed potential, but fit for entertainment.
The overall story would've had potential for more. I almost stopped listening after the first 30 minutes, but the story ended up fine and gained traction with time. It's quite predictable and naive, with awful and cliché sound effects that take away from the experience. Thankfully the voice actors are quite good, but some characters have way too similar voices and styles.
Sound effects, names and the predictability make the story seem childish and made me furrow my brows more than once.
Despite all this, I would recommend it for an easy listen, but would definitely warn that it's not a masterpiece.

Brilliant performances all round.
The performances in this audiobook were bloody brilliant! The subtle, eerie tones of music in the background worked really nicely against the story. I enjoyed the storyline too, although slightly predictable.. for a fairly short listen though, it was pretty damn good.
I recommend this audiobook to anyone looking to enjoy a horror fiction story on a starry night as they settle down for bed.
Overall, I feel like this was a real good listen for an audiobook from the plus catalog. Well done to all involved in its creation.

Excellent!!
Production values are top of the class so be sure to listen with headphones!
A great compliment to a cult folk horror movie of the early 70s. Lets hope Mark Gatis and his cohorts in classic horror film appreciation make more offerings of this quality. Looking forward to the unreleased Hammer Film from the vaults.
