Story
Evil rules the mean streets in many guises, waiting in the shadows along the crumbled edges of the mega-cities, where murder is the only crime that leaves a trace for lesser violent acts are simply not reported. Children, the elderly, the slightly and severely damaged make up the homeless. The weak and the helpless are deemed beyond salvation and beneath contempt by all but the strongest and the cruelest who see them as a source of sustenance.

Story
Life played its horrible games with the girl. As she grew up she devised clever places to hide - inside and outside of her mind. She was tricked by her own illusions; she was caught in traps of her own creation. It began with a kidnapping, a locked room, and the broken doll that was more than a plaything…and always, in the shadows, the dangerous painting from her past waited, threatening to expose her.

Story
I am going to die here. My name is Mindy Mason; I’m a student from the University. I volunteered for one experiment; it was to be for one day only. I want to go home now. I hear cries, screams, and shrieks in the night. Some of the voices sound as if they are coming from the pillow under my head, others as if from a radio behind a door in a far room, and yet others come from my dreams, thus layering my terror. I know Wendy has a knife; perhaps she has killed again. How can I stop her?

Publisher's Summary
Millions of threads so thin as to be invisible, so vaporous as to be ductile, drift through the classroom, emitting a chill and leaving a sense of unease. Hidden deep in their cloaks, the Blue Lights analyze the odors that cling to the individual cells of every child, from the top of each little head to the bottom of their ticklish feet and every dark secret place in between, from their gathering brains to their blood-soaked spleens. One girl feels dizzy; one boy throws up.
In 1918 Montana, the Spanish Flu, severe drought, and a myriad of strange phenomena plague the land. Fires rise in the night and burn down houses where entire families are trapped to die. Can one young mother protect her children from the fevers and the terrors while she unravels the mystery of the strange Blue Lights?

Haunting and Heartbreaking
The main character suffers many trials, sometime from unexpected sources (no spoilers). But as hard as her life is, it's about to get worse. Something terrible preys upon the town and soon upon this woman and her family.
Extremely well written, almost more poetry than fiction, the description makes the dark places more frighting and the hurtful moments more painful. It's intensity, while not graphic, leaves your nerves raw. You don't just read the story, you feel it. The imagery is very well crafted.
The narrator's voice really sold the story. Soft and sad, you feel this woman is real. She created the mood perfectly.
Highly recommend this story.

An Eerie Little Number
This wasn't quite as well narrated as the other Dona Fox short that I listened to recently but it's well done. The narrator shows she's au fait with the material and engages with it nicely. The story itself walks the veil between life and unlife and I enjoyed it very much. I'll be keeping an eye out for Dona's work in the future, it's genuinely creepy. Note: I solicited and received a review copy of this story. This review, however, remains my own opinion and was neither asked for nor incentivized by the author or narrator.

Who is the psychopath?
Another eerie short from Dona Fox. I start out reading her stories knowing there will be a twist I don’t see coming and determined to discover it. Well, I still never do. This short horror story is no different.
Who is the psychopath, mom,dad or the gal with no name?
Have fun figuring it out.
Ms. Fox is the new breed of horror writers. Looking forward to reading and listening to more of her work.

Unique horror story, very good.
Lovely prose writing and vivid imagery, as usual from this author. Pretty trippy too; I wasn't able to fully grasp the whole thing, but I suspect it was supposed to turn into a kind of fever-dream. Excellent listen in any case!

Hide-under-the-duvet-good!
As usual, Dona has come up with a very good, disturbing and scary short horror story!
I like the disturbing character-emulating confusion that comes out in Dona’s writing, adding to the tension of the read.
Sarah really adds to the enjoyment of the book, reading it really well and portraying the characters really well; her tone summing up the atmosphere perfectly!
Again, only missed out on a 5 star rating due to it being a short listen (although good value for money!)
This is an honest opinion of a free review copy.

Beware of the lights!
Set in 1918 rural Montana the Spanish Flu, severe drought and a very mysterious phenomena is plaguing the land.
A young Mother is fighting for her families survival as mysterious fires suddenly start in the night that burn down houses wiping out full families. And then there are the blue lights that analyse children's body cells resulting in illness.
Is all this real or the minds tricks from the bodies thirst and hunger? is there a mystery to be solved at all?.
I enjoyed this short horror story you really could feel the desperation of the main character and the blue lights and cloaks added a very eerie Sci-FI feel to the story.
This is the second audio book I have listened to by this author. I enjoy her short warped tales that take you out of every day life in to an alternative reality whilst holding you in suspense.
