Dean Mathews leads a normal, if boring life. His career, his home, his social life, none of it is really what he wanted for himself, but it's the life he has nonetheless. A small coincidence brings him the opportunity to take ownership of his grandfather's old farm, to bring the place under his wing and careful hand. This choice will lead him from his old life to face a host of new challenges, most of which he expected. The unforeseen comes in the form of Mikael Reed, a simple carpenter - with a few secrets.

Some people are born lucky. Then there’s me, destined to be loved by the man who knows my darkest secret. My gift has followed me my entire life—the ability to see the threads of fate. I can see the red thread tying together two people destined to love one another. But my gift has another side to it. A darker side. I can also see a simple black thread tied to the fingers of those who aren’t aware of it, connecting them to the person destined to kill them. Growing up rough has made Eli into the man (and wolf) he’s always wanted to be. After a life on the streets in the hardest parts of the city, Eli’s road to a place of respect in the community has been a rocky one, but one that he’s proud of. Opening Wild Hearts Community Center with his best friend Hunter gave Eli a sense of purpose, and creating a space for youth growing up the same way he did has helped him carve out a slice of territory in the city and shelters the pack he calls family. But what makes it all worthwhile is having Hunter by his side.

My whole life, I’ve been taught to despise shifters. So when I’m hired to track two escaped convicts, I’m suddenly thrust into the world I hate - or thought I did. Yet I’m inexplicably drawn to the alpha of the pack, whose land the convicts may be hiding on. He’s different than any shifter I've ever met - laidback and quick to laugh, caring, and protective. As secrets are revealed, I start to wonder if everything I’ve been raised to believe was a lie, though it may not matter, because it seems like someone wants us dead.

Not professional reading
It seems this was recorded by being read out loud at home. You can hear tv on in the area. You can even a few times hear the reader’s cellphone buzz. Re-peats some times like he losses his place or trouble with words. You even hear his response to himself for not getting words right.

Great story
I received an ARC of this audible for my honest review. I really enjoyed being able to listen to this book while I was working. My only issue with this story is that you can hear background noise throughout the reading. Zachary is a great narrator and loved listening to him bring the characters to life. Kyle is an omega who lost his entire pack and is taken in by another pack but he feels like an outsider and one that doesn't belong. He helps the pack shaman to learn all he can. Aiden is the alpha who always bullied Kyle when they were younger. Aiden has come back from battle and is looking to find an omega to bring back to his new pack. Kyle doesn't want anything to do with Aiden but as the fates will have they both find out that they are each others fated mate. The shaman explained to Kyle about Aiden's upbringing and gave him an idea of why Aiden bullied Kyle. In no way did she say it was okay on what Aiden did but she wanted Kyle to understand that Aiden was also bullied by his own family. Overall I'm glad to see them have a HEA.

Great book and listen.
This is a great story by Noah Harris. I love a good enemies to lovers and this definitely is one. It's great to see Kyle and Adrian relationship develops from enemies to something more. Now I do like Zachary Liebenstein's narration. His voice is definitely nice to listen to but I can see that there still need to be some editing done. However for me it didn't stop me from listening.

loved it
I loved the trope enemies to lovers especially with these two. The way Kyle had then get to know each other seemed a but odd but worked out un the end. My only wish was that it was longer, just when things were changing for the better between them things seemed to go warp speed then just end. Don't get me wrong, I still love it, just wish that endings weren't so rushed and short.
I definitely can't wait to start the next one!!

DNF & Returned
This really should have included a bully romance disclaimer in the summary. It was the worst kind too. Not a “he was a jerk who called me names sometimes” but a “he was a psycho abuser who regularly hunted someone five years younger, broke his bones and left physical and mental scars that remained into adulthood”. All this he got away with because he was an alpha and his victim was an omega.
So then the alpha comes back a “war hero” but he’s still a rude prick and it’s perfectly acceptable in their society for him to claim his victim as property. Hard pass.

Interesting view of a popular trope
This book is an interesting view of where “fated mates” meets “enemies to lovers”. The popular trope of meeting one’s true love cross-populated with enemies to lovers is posed by Noah Harris. Normally, once the MC’s meet, all falls in line — even if they didn’t like each other. In this story, though, Noah takes his time with MC’s so that they truly work through their differences as we watch them grow incrementally into the people they need to be. I like that it isn’t tropes-by-the-numbers. I had read the book and I picked up the audio once it was available.
The narrator, however, needs to do a couple of things. 1. He needs to better sound-proof his space. It’s a little echoey, and some sort of audio bled through about halfway through the book. 2. It sounds like he is sight-reading the text a little too much, sounding unprepared to actually tell the story. He is almost there, distinguishing characters and performing the chuckles, snorts, etc. Still, I will be just fine with purchasing other books narrated by him.

alpha and omega - and nothing else.
I find this book lacking in depth and world-building. there are alphas (a lot of them male?) and omegas (a lot of them female?) and no other character of being. no beta, no gamma, no delta or otherwise different from the roughly divided personality traits. sad.

Narration has not been edited
The story may be better than the 3 stars I have rated it, but there are so many problems with the narration that it gets in the way of the story.
I like Zachary Liebenstein's voice and his narration is good, but there are multiple repeated words and phrases, sounds going on in the background, he even sounds out and repeats words he has a problem with. At one point he repeated the same phrase 3 times with gaps and noises and sighs... You even get his occasional frustrated comment. It looks to me as if this was released before the audio was edited.
With regards to story, Noah Harris just did too good a job making one of the main characters so unlikeable in the early chapters that I was never won over. But, there is a lot of interesting stuff going on and I kept listening because I wanted to hear more about this world.

It was ok, narrator bloopers = unexpected laughs.
The book itself is good, I like noah harris books so I kinda expected it to be. The first few woopsies from the narrator were a little annoying, but then the bloopers just got funnier. Wound up busting out in laughter when it was meant to be a serious part.
