Publisher's Summary
A true story of surviving the worst and discovering the magic of everyday.
How would you live differently if life gave you a second chance?
Brian Pennie shouldn’t be alive today. His drug addiction was so bad that he was deemed too much of a risk for detox. Determined to confront his demons, he went cold turkey at home. On 8 October 2013, he was finally clean after 15 years of heroin addiction and something extraordinary happened: the world suddenly became beautiful. Given a second chance at life, he devoured every minute of it.
Bit by bit he rebuilt his world, returning to university to study neuroscience in a bid to understand the source of his suffering. In this incredibly honest and inspirational narrative, Brian tells the story of how he turned a seemingly hopeless existence into a rich and rewarding life, showing that change is always possible, no matter how stuck we feel.

Fantastic and inspiring!
This book was just so...much - in a great way. First of all, the narrator was awesome. My internal voice had an Irish accent weeks after I finished the book - and I'm Jamaican lol. Secondly, Brian's story is just incredible. I'm really glad he survived his addiction, and very glad he decided to share his life with the world.

A story of recovery over addiction
Narrator was good. The real voice and experience of addiction. Could have been shorter. Enjoyed.

Brilliant🤩well done Brian👍
I stumbled across Brian’s story while listening to an anxiety podcast.. Brian was being interviewed and I found his story fascinating.
I am an anxiety sufferer.. my sister is a recovering addict... I downloaded the book mainly to look for help and tips on how to overcome my own anxiety, not only has this book given me hope in regards to my own anxiety but it has also given me a better understanding of addiction and has allowed me to accept the choices my sister has made and helped with the healing process that goes along with being the sister of an addict. I did not expect to gain any understanding of addiction, I was just looking for anxiety help.
I defo got more out of the book than I had hoped for and although I don’t know Brian I feel so incredibly proud of him.
Thank you for using your experience to help others. I will definitely be looking you up on social media so I can continue to follow your journey and to see how I can turn my anxiety around like you did and I will also be recommending the book to my sister too.
Well done 👍 🌟😃

Strikingly honest
I found Brian's honesty and his accounts ,some were jaw dropping some very sad , all honest and brutal and intriguing , but educational to those of us that don't get it, and what an ending , inspired.

Couldn't stop listening
An ispirational story, descriptively told. Tugs at a range of emotions, I didn't want it to end.

A remarkable story and game plan for living a worthwhile life.
After seeing a before and after photo of the author - I was in disbelief that they could be the same person - and reading a couple of his articles on Quora, I was so intrigued I had to read the author's story. An important story of drifting into chronic addiction to numb an anxious mind, with a remarkable outcome. Although I've never been an addict, many parts were relatable, though quelling anxiety through inaction rather than addiction. A personal self-improvement and self-awareness guide, cunningly disguised as an autobiography. A great and original read. Highly recommend it.
