Your wedding day is supposed to be the happiest day of your life, right? That's what they say, at least. I went into that day hoping I'd get the happiest day of my life. What I got? The worst. I mean, you really can't get any worse of a day without someone actually dying. So...I may have gotten just a little drunk, and maybe just a tad impetuous...and landed myself in a dive bar somewhere in Alaska, alone, still in my wedding dress, half wasted and heartbroken.

Publisher's Summary
Matilda Geoffrey risked it all for love. She left Australia to be with Barry - the man who had swept her off her virtual feet. Now, wearing a wedding dress, she's alone on Main Street in small-town Wisconsin, and things aren't working out exactly as planned.…
In town for his annual family visit, Marc Olsen had never seen a bride quite like Matilda - staring into a storefront window, holding a tottering wedding cake, and looking desperately in need of a groom. He may not have any warm feelings for his hometown, but meeting Matilda just as she discovers she's been scammed by her online "fiancé" stirs something in him.
Matilda is not the kind of woman Marc imagined himself with, and Marc is anything but the romantic hero that Matilda has always dreamed of. But as unlikely circumstances throw them together, can they let go of their misconceptions and risk their hearts for love?

Love this book.
Well written. However this Wisconsinite has to let you know that Manitowoc and Brat we're pronounced incorrectly. Also it was hard to tell where this place is ... Wausau and Manitowoc are hours apart. But the storyline was heartwarming and so something I could imagine happening in my fine state. Including a young man wanting to escape a small town life, only to realize that it was a great place to raise kids, especially in the summer. Since Spotted Cow is a WI favorite beer, I have to ask if there really is a Spotted Cow bar in eastern WI? I will definitely be reading (or listening to) more books by Fiona Lowe in the near future!

Fluffy Fun with Some Serious Undertones
On the surface, this was a lighthearted romance. As unbelievable plot line with a few too many contrived conveniences as I have come to expect from most stories in this genre, but the characters were quirky and endearing, they faced real problems and real trauma and yet stayed true to the idea of romance. The main characters were by and large likeable. She was a little too good-natured and naive and he was a little shallow and failed to see the obvious. But both were sympathetic and many of the secondary characters were even more so.
The undertones - that dealt with coming to grips with loss, letting go of long held harmful habits and dialog, the role playing that takes place in family dynamics - were dealt with well. They gave the plot meat, but didn't overwhelm the warmth of the romance.
Overall this was a very likeable book.

Feminism grade: A-
Absolutely amazing book! I am only taking a few points off for the fact that Matilda moved half-way around the world to get married to a guy-that's not so feminist but other than that, it's not problematic.

the story is pretty good. There are places where it really drags. There is my pet peeve with not being able to tell where thoughts end and dialogue begins. The narrator doesn't even try to do male voices, and that is sometimes a good thing. Overall, not too bad.

Which scene was your favorite?
Couldn't pick just one. Several make me smile even now as I think about them.

Easy Romance Listen
I thoroughly enjoyed this story from the first moment that Marc spies the forlorn-looking Aussie bride alone on the street of his home town to the last word in the Epilogue, which garnered a satisfied sigh. The series of events that weave Marc and Matilda's lives together seemed as organic to the story as snow is to their Wisconsin winter, making it feel as if it's a true story being recounted for my enjoyment. The story has some reasonable sex scenes which add a bit of spice. Tess Masters narration was really good especially the Australian ascent.
While Boomerang Bride is very much a romance, it's also a portrait of familial love's twists and turns which results in the desperate and euphoric moments that make life interesting. Fiona Lowe is a gifted writer whose portrayal of those moments make this a book you'll remember long after you've read the final word.
