Helpful/Insightful

The content was insightful, making it easier to finish. Provided a lot of tips for the person with BPD in addition to people who live/know someone with BPD, & how to support them in a healthy manner. The only downside of this book was the narrator, her voice was great-but she sounded as if she was getting emotional or choked up on and off which was quite bothersome. Other than that minor thing, I would recommend this book if you have BPD or know/with someone that has BPD.

pretty good

recently had a professional therapist with a masters degree put me down by telling me I had Borderline Personality Disorder. obviously I display all the symptoms. this book put things in perspective. it helps. I'm glad to know Im not the peice of shit she makes me feel like. hope she doesn't do the same to her clients. thanks Ash

Great Content Performed Poorly

The number of sentences misread for lack of comprehension of the reader quickly goes from frustrating to intolerable. Add in mispronunciation and one wonders who is responsible for the entire production. But the content is good. But the book instead.

Comforting

Anyone who struggles with Borderline or loves someone who has Borderline should read this!! It is very comforting knowing the emotions and emptiness and numbness are common struggles in people with BPD. I wish I had read this book about 30 years ago!! And I wish I could give a copy to all friends and family, The chapter addressing ways loved ones can help is probably the best thing I’ve read since I was diagnosed in 2020.

Wow....

I am 35 year old male with BPD.
this is the first time in my life I have ever had someone else describe me to me I have been searching for what is wrong with me for at least 10 years no doctor or anyone else has ever presented me with this information this book was a total slap in the face in the best of ways had me bawling and complete tears because someone else understood who I am and what I'm going through you're struggling with mental illness I strongly suggest you read this book and maybe you'll be able to find something else about you too. thank you for writing this book I am forever grateful I have the answers I need to move forward now

I've listened to this 3x & purchased 2x for family

Very informative and a quick listen. Really broke things down for me that I had been treacherously wondering about myself for my entire life. I have been in and out of very useful therapy for 20 years and never learned these things about myself. And I have been taking a very close look lol This book explained things to me that other people cannot see,, since we learn to cope and "fit in" to society, the majority and severity of our pain is hidden away, painfully inside. This book broke me down, so be ready to learn and accept some heavy truths about yourself and the way you operate. But, I needed this book to help me understand why I do what I do, or.. have done what I've done, and to make the progress I am working on in my life. I now have answers that I have been searching for every single day of my life. I can't stress that part enough!! I am planning to listen to it again since it has so much new information for me. I also see many more books on the topic in my future lol That's a good thing though. I highly recommend this audiobook!! (sped up just the tiniest bit :)

Update: I just finished this book for the third time. I read a few others on the subject but ultimately this was the most helpful and thorough for me. Re-reading this is actually helping with my current DBT therapy (with a therapist). I would highly recommend this book to anyone researching the topic. I also purchased this for someone else struggling with BPD and they found it very helpful for their current therapy/treatment too. So far, this is the most informative and helpful book on BPD that I have come across.

Good just beware of opinions

This books info helps map out symptoms. It was however jarring to hear words like “it will be hard.” Ouch. What if we think different like “it will be a new skill” , exciting new option” “takes work but we are certainly capable”. Stick with it!

An interesting booking but terrible narration

The narration of this was unfortunately really robotic, and had a very strange rhythm or flow thst didn't always match the sentences which made it difficult to follow at times. It's a real shame as the content of the book has so far been really informative and good, but might be one to read the old fashioned way...

Helped in the moment when needed

Having felt reasonably safe for many years I experienced a few events which triggered me significantly. This book help me to feel a bit more grounded as it talks about various ideas and outlines the pertinent issues of this disorder. It won’t provide any specific therapy for structured guidance but it will help you to understand better the places you are in. Of course you need to seek professional help but this was a good emergency listen to help me push through some of the issues I was facing in the moment.

A good book to start with

It gives a new perspective on people with addictive problems and other behavior problems. I had not read much on personality disorders before and was skeptical about these diagnoses, but sometimes the behaviors exhibited by people were otherwise unexplainable, or they would not remember what they had done or said. Many people do not respond to typical anti-depressant therapy. A good book to start with.

Borderline Personality Disorder

This book offers a well-rounded overview of what experiencing this disorder is like to the sufferer and contains much-needed information for anyone dealing with BPD. The format of the book itself flowed seamlessly from chapter to chapter, and the accompaniment of anecdotal examples throughout made it easy to follow and understand. This book changed my life in ways I didn't expect

I started listening to this book for one purpose. I purchased this book for my boyfriend when he found out he had Borderline. I found out I had Borderline as well while listening to this book. Now with the information that I learned, my emotional intelligence grew tremendously. I haven't yelled at my kids since I've read this book. I haven't invalidated anyone like I used to. I do not judge anyone, and I changed my way of reacting. I highly recommend this book to anyone, not just people associated with BPD.
