Publisher's Summary

A rich portrayal of living faithfully and happily as a Christian with same-sex attraction that paints a compelling picture of discipleship for every believer.

In this powerful and personal book, author Rachel Gilson describes her own unexpected journey of coming out and coming to faith...and what came next. As she does so, she addresses many of the questions that Christians living with same-sex attraction are wrestling with: Am I consigned to a life of loneliness? How do I navigate my friendships? Will my desires ever change? Is there some greater purpose to all this?

Drawing on insights from the Bible and the experiences of others, Born Again This Way provides assurance and encouragement for Christians with same-sex attraction, and paints a compelling picture of discipleship for every believer.

Whatever your sexuality, this book is an inspiring testimony of how a life submitted to Jesus will be fulfilling and fruitful, but not always in the ways we might expect.

BEST of the MANY I’ve read about SSA

I am a parent of a 20 something year old adult child who is SSA and dabbles in the lifestyle. I’ve read, listened to, watched an uncountable number of pieces, so much though I probably know more about the subject than some who experience it. Although I don’t known about it in the way people who experience it do, I’ve gained a lot of knowledge over the years. This was by far the most well thought out, articulate, interesting, and honest book I’ve read on the topic (actually I listened to it. I whole heartily encourage everyone who experiences, or loves someone who experiences SSA to read it!

Thoughtfully written and wonderfully narrated.

Very helpful and insightful. Helped me understand those who have same sex attraction and come alongside them in a more meaningful and loving way.

So insightful

It was very easy to listen to and brought to light different layers of living out a God centred life in a sexually broken world. I am not same sex attracted but many of her insights were still helpful for me as a single Christian woman navigating the possibility of a life of singleness in submission to God

Thoughtful and grace-filled

Rachel Gilson provides a biblically deep and grace-centered voice to what has increasingly become more of a frantic shouting match than a loving discussion amongst family. I will be recommending her book to not just my Christian friends who struggle with same sex attraction, but all Christians!

Absolutely wonderful

This book is an incredible gift to the world! So well written and articulated always pointing us back to our relationship with God and His word and the unique person He has made us to be. It is a gift to the married person, the single, the same sex attracted and the opposite sex attracted. This is a great book to discuss in every church and oh how I wish my child had read it in high school. Thank you!

People need to read this book!

Rachel Gilson puts the confusing issue of same-sex attraction (SSA) into perspective for Christians who want to help people struggling with this temptation. Gilson is both compassionate and realistic as she gently corrects the Church's false expectations and helps believers to see that SSA is similar to other forms of temptation in that it often never stops being a struggle until we're in glory. She also makes the reader aware of how "costly" a commitment to Christ is for those leaving the LBGT lifestyle, and that for someone sacrificing nearly everything for Christ, an hour a week in church does not come close to meeting the need for fellowship and support. The Church is also gently chastised for often making marriage an idol of sorts, and enlightened (or reminded) about the unique roles of singles as equally valuable in the Body of Christ. I wish everyone who identifies as a Christ-follower could read this book.

A Great Story with Spiritual Guidance included

Gilson’s story and description of her growth as a Christian, as well as specific issues regarding same sex attraction and Christianity, are priceless. This is a very sensitive, heartfelt treatment of navigating homosexuality as a Christian in our world. Whether you are looking for help or simply understanding of this issue, this book is a great resource. Thank you so much, Rachel!

A Wonderful Find

I have run the gamut of authors who write about sex-same attraction as it relates to the Christian faith. Rachel Gilson is the first author I have found who has shared the struggles of being caught up in an active sexual sin cycle after coming to faith in Christ. There are plenty of other wonderful things about this book, but the solidarity I found when listening to a fellow believer share her difficult and shameful moments while trying to learn how to live faithfully in light of the surpassing grace of God is the thing that struck me the most upon this first reading. I will definitely be recommending this to some of my friends who face similar hardships.

OK but better books out there on this topic

Offers some interesting first hand experiences and thoughts on heterosexual marriage for the same sex attracted. However, in terms of thinking through the bibles perspective of same sex attraction there are better books out there such as the plausibility problem

A book for all the church

Having read/listened to this book twice, I have found it to be more helpful than just for those with same sex attraction.
The biblical content is encouraging, helpful, thorough, educational, merciful, gracious, honest, truthful and has wisdom.
It is more than a book just for certain people, but for the whole church. I have learnt from it for myself and for how I treat my fellow Christian family, and want to do my part in fulfilling and showing love to the church family, but above all trusting the Lord with all my heart, and loving him first.
Rachel does not shy away from the difficulty of sin, the hurt sin produces and the choices we have to make as Gods family.
The love of our creator is forefront, and this is overwhelmingly beautiful
Thank you Rachel for writing this book.

Helpful, challenging, & compassionately delivered

This is an exceptional book. Rachel comes across so caring and compassionate. It is a personal story, so has the weight of her own experience,... but is laced with Bible throughout. I have listened to this as a pastor and a dad, and it has provoked thoughtful reflexion for me. It really highlights both the cost of discipleship, and the reward of discipleship - issues the world needs to see.
