Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

I thought this was a middle-of-the-road enjoyable read (or listen, rather). I liked Ibby. I liked the immigration aspect of her character. I liked the idea of the ability to control metal. I liked her self-sufficiency and smarts. However, I never felt particularly immersed in the world. This may be because the book is a spin-off from another series (which I didn’t know when I decided to listen to it). It may be because the book is all running here, being attacked there. It never settles enough for the reader to catch a breath and start caring. Plus, there’s a pretty big deus ex machina moment toward the end.
I see several people in the reviews complaining about the narrator. I had little problem with her. I thought she was a little dry with some characters (the demon, for example), but was mostly fine. I’d listen to her again.
Note: I received an audible code for a copy of this book. I chose to listen and review it.

Details, details, details
I struggled to get past the first 5 to 6 chapters, I almost stopped listening. The narrators accent threw me off, I had to rewind and listen again in spots, she did not do a very good job with giving each character their own distinct voice, and Ibby talked to herself, in her mind, more than she actually spoke...the details were sooooo detailed, you lost what the character was supposed to be doing. The story was good, but getting there was a struggle.

Loved it!
I really loved this book! It was a fun listen, and very engaging. The narrator was a little hard for me to follow at times due to the accent (I am American), but I didn’t find it too troubling at all. The writer is amazing. I’ve listened to a few of her other books in this series and I highly recommend them all! I’ve read a lot of elemental themed books and I think this is the first one surrounding the metal element, so I really liked that uniqueness.

slow narration
the only reason I was able to finish this book is because the story is fascinating. I love this author.
the narrator spoke so slowly that I could not follow along. I had to rewind chapters over and over which isn't common for me.
I even sped her up a bit to have it feel more of a normal speed to follow along with. it helped but still her tone is so monotone that I would loose focus again.
I don't want to be mean because she obviously reads well, just not my cuppa tea.
I still don't know the whole story because I just couldn't keep rewinding it. So, I'm missing chunks in between. ha ha

Great Story
Jackie is a college-aged archaeology researcher, who's coworkers don't seem to admire or appreciate her. She accidentally stumbles upon an artifact that gives her powers over metal. In this book, the main character seems to be struggling with achieving success in life. This seems to be a different approach that the heroine in the other Knorr books.
There are multiple conflicts going on at the same time, Jackie trying to keep her job. An enemy of her uncle seems to be coming against her. The change that she experiences as she goes from depending on the approval of others to coming into her own power is fascinating. This is a very interesting read. I didn't put it down until I completed it. Also, I'm reading it again.
There are mystery and adventure. It's a clean read, suitable for any age.

a cool book.
I quite liked this book. the characters were enjoyable, it had some humor and i liked the fast paced of narrative. I liked how organically ebby learn her powers. one thing I didnt like was how a lot of the magical elements were drop on you right before the final, some of these magical elements weren't explained well and the end fight scene was a little hard to follow. but over all, well written and the voice actress was well casted. it's a nice urban fantasy to lisren too. and i cant wait to get the second book.

Ibby’s story
We meet Ibby in the elemental series and she gets her own book here. I have loved all of A L Knorr’s stories but this one just didn’t hold my interest as well as the others. It is still good with lots of adventure. I have listened to one other story with this narrator and although she has a great English accent I just haven’t been as impressed as a couple of Abby’s other narrators. Ibby has to overcome many adversities as everything she once knew changes and shifts as she becomes what she thinks of as a super hero. She gains powers over metals. She can hear each different type of metal and has powers to move it and shape it to her will. But powers come with great responsibilities and in Ibby’s case a whole lot of danger.

Thrilling and exiting listen
This is only the second audio book that I have every listened to. The main character is an archaeology student that accidentally stumbles upon a couple of odd metal rings. Little does she know this is the beginning of discovering her unique bloodline. Along the way we are introduced to a century old ghost, and a female that is beyond centuries old and is not what she seems. A lot of bad guys and an ancient entity trapped and desperate for escape from his prison, from a mysterious organisation after power. Combine this together and you have an enthralling story that its thrilling as well. The only issue that I had with this book was the Scottish accent it was terrible 😊 – I am Scottish so I should know. Apart from this, the book was a thrilling listen. I will be looking forward to the next book in this series!

Great start to the next instalment of elementals!
Thoroughly enjoyed the story, which explores Ibby’s origin story. Those who have read the other elementals books will have met her before, this book is set in England, where she is trying to gain experience as an archaeologist by working in the British Museum, but as always with these books there is a twist and things are not quite as straightforward as she would have wished.
I do really enjoy listening to the audiobooks, I found this one a little hard to get into to start with as the reader is quite slow and precise at the start of the book. It was nice to hear it being read in an accent native to the country it is set in. Looking forward to the next installment!

Good spin-off
This book is a spin-off from the Elementals series.
We first met Ibby in Born of Air. This is her story of how she became born of metal,
Ibby is an orphan with only one living relative. We find out about her current life and how the Rings of Inconquo change her life forever.
Great story and can't wait for the next installment.
