Publisher's Summary

Nicole Martin was only eight years old when the vampire slaves rose up in rebellion and killed her family. Now she devotes her life to finding a vaccine against vampirism, hoping to wipe out her memories - along with every bloodsucker on the planet. But there's one thing she cannot destroy: Her searing, undeniable attraction for the one man she should hate and fear the most.

A member of the renegade vampire MoonBound Clan, Riker is haunted by demons of his own. When he recognizes Nicole and remembers how her family enslaved his loved ones, his heart burns for vengeance. But when he kidnaps Nicole and holds her in a secret lair, his mortal enemy becomes his sole obsession, his greatest temptation, and, perhaps, his only salvation - a hot-blooded lover who could heal him with her touch….or bury him forever.

Still debating on how good this book is…

I love the Demonica and Horseman series, so much that this was an instant download for me. And although this book was okay, it was nowhere near as good as her other books. It was almost unbelievable that the main characters actually got together and fell in love. Nicole character was not congruent, she went from doing lab test on vampires to being a vampire lover. She was supposed to be smart, but she blatantly ignored horrors that were right under her nose. She must know how the slaves were treated, yes I can see when she was a child she didn't know better, but she was 28 in the book. What got my caw was the fact she supported things I wouldn't wish on anybody not animals, not people, and not vampires. I know she didn't know the extent of what was happening, but still she was supposed to have been the CEO. After I got over her the book improved and I will probably read the next book, based on how well I liked her other series, who knows maybe this one will improve. I liked the narrator pretty good but I'm not as picky as other listeners out there. Overall I would give this a 3.5, it's hard to rate because the characters weren't great but the world building has potential.

Different Take on Vampires

What does Amy Landon bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I typically prefer male narrators since many female ones make the males sound feminine or overdone. She does a good job with the voices and it's easy to distinguish between characters.

Any additional comments?

This book has a different take on vampires and their society. At first I wasn't sure I would like it, but then the more I listened the more I got into the book. The book does end with a cliffhanger and I would definitely listen/read the next in the series.

Better than I thought, rated PG 16 though

I really liked the Demonica series by this author, particularly because of its originality. That series has a bunch of different types of characters and characters traits. This series, so far, is not as complex as the Demonica series and that isn’t always a bad thing. Sometimes I want to listen to a well thought out written book that isn’t super complex. Why? Because I want to clean house and listen or grocery shop and listen; you get the point.
Even though this book isn’t complex, it does have an original take on Vampire life. It’s almost like a combo of a wolf shifter and Vampire community. The Vampires have many of the common traits of traditional Vampires but they live in communities that are similar to a wolf pack. I liked the characters and the plot was unique and interesting. I will tell you that, so far, this series isn’t nearly as sexually explicit as the Demonica series. ( I missed the HOT stuff). With that being said, it’s definitely credit worthy and also a great romance package selection.

1+hour in and on ch 9

I give up. I just dont care about them. Ya they are still meeting and everything. But for it it's too boring and by ch9 with an hour down I need something to pull me in. Also might not be my cup of tea- I was really unsure when I learned how their past is connected and just cant get past it.

What a shame !!

Any additional comments?

Like others i just fell in love with the Demonica Series by Larissa and couldn't wait to get my fangs into this new series. Very sadly, this book just had no grunt to it at all and i couldn't make it to the end... Even so, this won't put me of other Larissa's books as i know she can do a lot better than this :)

Great Author

I love the Demonica series by this author. She's fantastic. This one and the world in it aren't are as good as that series, but it is still a good read/listen.

4.5 Stars of This One!

I had the Kindle version since the book came out and only bought the Audible version recently on Audible’s deep discount sale. It was a little slow at the beginning. I liked it but didn’t absolutely love it. The narration was the Best part. Amy Landon is a new narrator for me and she was perfect. Maybe I was expecting too much. It WAS good.

Excellent book.

At the start I had a little trouble engaging but that was likely just me being in a bit of a funk. However, very quickly I was pulled in. There is excellent character development and action at the right times. The slow build is not to slow. It is also a wonderful change for how the vampire subject is approached. I also wish there were many books in this series. Oh well a few great ones are better then 25 crappy ones. Well worth it.

Whiny/asshole men/vampires are not sexy.

The story had me at first but then I got really tired of the whiny main vampire character. He sees not very likable and I would never be attracted to someone so bitchy.
