Publisher's Summary

Christians often focus so much on being loving and unselfish that they forget their own limitations, allowing others to take advantage of their kindness. Authors Drs. Henry Cloud and John Townsend offer Biblically-based ways to take control of your life and set healthy boundaries with parents, spouses, children, friends, coworkers, and even yourself.

Using the case history of a fictional woman named Sherrie, Drs. Cloud and Townsend illustrate her growth from living with virtually no limitations to applying boundaries with others in her life. In the process, they answer many difficult questions, teaching us how to set limits but still be loving, identify our legitimate boundaries, and say no without feeling guilty. Boundaries is an essential guide for Christians who want to increase their assertiveness without sacrificing the ideals of the Scriptures.

Great principles

This book has great principles, I agree with what they have to say generally. The story format of teaching is hard for me, but studies show it sinks in more that way. I would recommend this book to people that regularly feel obligated by others.

Excellent book!

This is the book for all of us in this day of multi-tasking and exhaustion. It is a book on how to cope with being a people pleaser and running on empty! I loved it and and its accompanying workbook. It includes biblical references and is a wonderfully written book by two experts! Please read it right away -- your life may depend on it.

Awful audio

Would you try another book from Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend and/or Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend ?

Probably a decent book, but someone else needs to read it or the volume needs to be adjusted. I can hardly hear it from my iPod or my buds. It is awful in that respect.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Be able to actually hear the book being read.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Could not even hear him. This book needs to be redone.

Book is missing key components, buy the hard copy

I have the hard copy and am enjoying it. I thought I’d get the audible version and then follow along in the book. This audible version of the book is abridged to the point that it is missing key components that aid in the understanding of concepts. The hard copy has 16 chapters. The audible version has 4 chapters. I’m not even going to continue listening. Waste of a credit.

VERY GOOD BOOK

When I started taking counseling versus depression and anxiety that I was going through, my therapist recommended this book, along with Doctor Townsend and Doctor Clouds' expanded version entitled, Boundaries, Updated and Expanded Edition. How to Say Yes and When to Say No. Just listening to this three-hour book, let me know that some of the things that were discussed in this book were exactly what I was going through. I also purchased the expanded version and enjoyed listening to every minute of it as well. These 2 books are definitely worth reading.

Lesson learned - read overview before you buy!

It is neither obvious in the title or sample that this audiobook is rooted firmly in Christianity which is disappointing. Although I would consider myself a spiritual person, I could not connect with the constant references to God and living a Christian life. If I was able, I would have had it refunded as I am now going to delete it. ☹️

too religious

i didn't like the fact that the author constantly refers to god and the bible. I don't belive in god and was not expecting a sermon in this book.
