Years ago, boundary witch Allison “Lex” Luther made a promise to an alpha werewolf. Now, just when the supernatural community in Colorado is enjoying a period of hard-won peace, the alpha turns up at Lex’s door to call in his marker. Two of his pack members have disappeared in the Colorado sand dunes, and he needs safe passage to hunt for them. With her friend Simon Pellar along for backup, Lex ventures into the dunes to search for the missing couple…but what they find is only the opening move in an ambitious assault against those who hold power in the Colorado Old World.

Publisher's Summary
Something wicked is at work in Colorado's supernatural community. Vampires are being paralyzed or killed with poison...a weapon favored by witches. This offense threatens to break apart the already-fractured alliance between witches and the undead.
The state's cardinal vampire, Maven, summons boundary witch Allison "Lex" Luther to stop the killing before it ignites a war. Lex has barely started investigating when she gets another surprise: the biological father she's never met arrives on her doorstep. He has answers to all of Lex's questions about her bloodline, but getting those answers could mean betraying the life she's already built.
Then the next vampire is poisoned - and this time it's Maven herself. The new evil that hunts Lex is powerful and ruthless enough to stop the strongest supernatural creature in the state. In order to find such a killer, Lex will have to face down her own birthright and call on every ally - both living and dead.

Still a great read!
The most entertaining thing about this one, it is not about Charlie. Yes, her name is repeated throughout the book, but she is not in any danger. The next bonus, Lex find out her parents and there is evil in the shadows. My disappointment is the, "I am a monster syndrome” In situations where the protagonist finds out their parents were not the sterling members of the community, they feel guilty. They interpret their parents’ action as recriminations against themselves. Oh my god, I am evil, oh my god I am a monster. The only thing that has changed is they now know their blood line. That is needless filler and extremely unoriginal by the author.
Lily and Simon are great as always. I really enjoy how they make up their own minds versus following what the coven says. I really like Lily’s voice and personality. Their mother is ok too. I understand her restraints. There is real witch royalty introduced. I would like to see that expanded upon.
Why is it when lovers get into the struggle, I will be there to protect you, regardless if it kills you. Yep, Lex and Quin encounter a situation where she had to betray Quinn to keep herself safe. Again my WTF meter goes off doing the ensuring argument between them. After they make a promise not to do it again and you can hear the ominous music in the background.
All said and done, I enjoyed the book.

Great read and wonderful narration..
What a busy story. There was soooo much going on all the time. Especially that horrible Lasander. He was a serious killer. Even having his son try to kill Maven, which is NOT going to happen. She’s the head-honcho vampire. And funny looking too. She wears really funky clothes, thick glasses and has orange hair, to disguise herself. Only a few know how beautiful she really is.
Since there is so much happening all the time it impossible to tell you what it is without giving away spoilers. Just let me say that you’d like it.
I like Quinn and Lex as a couple, she’s a witch and he’s a vampire. I like Simon and Lily, too. As well as, Elise and Anna.
BUT, like other reviewers I do get tired of hearing about all the animals, 4 dogs and I don’t know how many cats, and one or two others that I don’t even remember.. It’s just too many and they are mentioned to many times.
There is a little romance, no sex whatsoever and the F-bomb was used 12 times.
As to the narration: If the book had been terrible I would have listened to it anyway because Kate Rudd was reading it. She is one of the best.

Fantastic Read!
This is the third book in the Boundary Magic Series and it didn't let me down. In this story something is attacking the Vampires in Colorado and Lex, Quinn and their friends try to find out who and why. While the story moves along Lex learns a lot about her background and the background of boundary magic. Throughout this series Lex has been dealing with the fact that she is a boundary witch and everything that involves and how it affects her life and in this book we see this to a greater extent. Loved seeing how her and Quinn's relationship has grown and how her friendship with Lily and Simon has also grown. It was a fast read from beginning to end and all around fantastic story. I listened to the audio book and wanted to say that Kate Rudd did a great job narrating it.

And It Just Keeps Getting Better
What did you love best about Boundary Born?
As much as I love the Scarlett series this is my favorite book by Melissa F. Olson so far. This is mainly due to Lex's character development. Lex remains naive to the Old World and is still stubborn as a mule, yet she is learning to trust the people she cares about.
It's this slow but rich development is I love Mrs. Olson's work so much
Who was your favorite character and why?
Lily. Her humor and personality really balance out Lex's.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Yes
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There are a few and to avoid spoilers I'll leave it at that.
Any additional comments?
I am not a fan of Kate Rudd. Her accent is so pronounced every time she has to do another accent it's just painful to hear. But anyone who is a fan of her work will not find fault in her performance
Over all I loved this book..Great pacing, great character development and a solid story. What more could you ask for.

A little shallow an confusing
This goes for all the books in the series. You get the feeling of constantly being kept in the dark about things. Or that there are roads that lead to nowhere. The characters are lovely and you care about them but they do not let you in and the relationships between them (romantically or not) are hard to define and somewhat unexplored. It causes the book to register as a bit shallow. As if the author ran out of paper before she could develop. Not at all a boring story or a waste of time, but there definitely are room for enrichment of characters.

The series carries on at a pace, love it...
Oh my goodness Lex just cannot get a break!!! Poor love. It makes for a fascinating listen though. Quadruple thumbs up, seriously. I didn't see the twists coming and I thoroughly enjoyed the story. It's not dipping at all (always a concern in a series) it's just carrying onwards, building the world and giving more info on the characters.
Kate Rudd is an excellent narrator as always. I feel so comfortable listening to her. Heading for the next book...

Lex does amazing in difficult situations.
I really enjoy this series, This book does not disappoint the narrator Kate Rudd does a wonderful job at bringing the different characters to life, I can always tell who is talking. It is hard to comment on the story without giving any spoilers away but I will try. Lex tries so hard in this book to keep on her mission even though at times she is not feeling 100%. There are some worrying parts, as in how is she going to get through this. Melissa F. Olson and Kate Rudd does a fantastic job of keeping the listener wanting more. I liked the chapter lengths they were long enough that you could listen to one or two just before bed.
