For anyone needing to get into shape

It's ironic that I was listening to Paul Simon's You Can Call Me Al when the lyrics said, "Then there's all that weight to be lost” then this book sort of magically appeared in my lap. It's actually after reading this book that I realized/learned that boxing isn't just for professionals. Boxing can be for anyone, especially if you want to get into shape, lose weight, and just be a healthier, more active individual. Sometimes exercising alone can be boring and boxing can spice things up for you.

I'm working on this novel where my protagonist knows mixed martial arts, including boxing. I think this is a great resource for authors who write action-adventures and want their characters' fighting to be real. That way, you know what you're talking about and you sound like an author that did your research. Remember, movies and books hardly ever get it right because they don't do enough research or consult with professionals that have been doing it for years.

The part on Tyson Fury was very interesting. It's sad at first, how he was doing so well as a boxer, but he suffered from depression and it makes me wonder if he only did boxing because he didn't want to live. Taking those punches in the ring but unable to take the punches of life because of depression.

But I'm glad that in his story, there was light at the end of the tunnel. That things do get better and you should open up to someone that's close to you; so you don't have to deal with the depression alone. I really love Chapter 7 on how much boxing is a mind game. It's difficult to see it that way. If you're unfamiliar with the world of boxing, you might just see it as something that has to do with physical strength. But like the author says, the mind controls the body, so if you mentally believe you can accomplish something, then your body will be able to.

I recommend this read for anyone who wants insight into the world of boxing and anyone who is prepared to take the necessary steps to actually box.

This was such a fantastic audiobook! Seriously packed with everything needed to start boxing. You learn the fundamentals, jabs, hooks etc, but the author also lists everything you need, including training material like ropes, to get started.

I loved the section on combos. Great insight and I definitely recommend this one!!

Great for beginners and a refresher for old pros

Ever since I saw Rocky when I was a kid, I've been interested in boxing. Listening to this audiobook was like having a personal trainer with me every step of the way. I let several years go by before I picked it up again. This book does an excellent job of describing the boxer's stances. Although much of this was a review, I was happy to have it as a refresher. I had forgotten so much. The accompanying PDF is excellent because it has several photos and includes information that complements the audiobook. I found this to be a great value, and if you are interested in learning boxing for the first time or are an old pro who needs a refresher, this is an excellent value.

A good book for boxers and health enthusiasts

I have always been a fan of boxing when there were personalities like Muhammad Ali, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, and the "iron" Mike Tyson. But what myself and many others did not realize was that boxing is good for fitness and self defence. And having listened to this book, I realized it emphasizes good health as well. So I would recommend this book to not just those interested in boxing, but for those who want to stay fit, healthy, and be able to defend themselves.

Great for aspiring amateurs and pros

Really enjoyable book, with vast knowledge embedded throughout. The book details some of the aspects of boxing that go under the radar such as the mental side of boxing, in terms of having to constantly think, and remain aware when in the ring.

I particularly liked the emphasis on the importance of footwork and maintaining distance in order to control where the fight goes.

Awesome gift!

I got this book for a friend who has always been interested in boxing but did not know quite where to start. This book did a great job of teaching him about the sport and gave him the confidence to sign-up to his local boxing gym. He enjoyed the narration and how the information was relayed. I highly recommend this book if you are interested in Boxing!

Now I know the theory, just got to put in the work

Passionately narrated, nice change from the generic accents normally featured in audiobooks. The audiobook is split into bite sized chunks not just long chapters. Learnt so much about out-boxers, swarmers, sluggers and that the ideal boxer must learn all styles to be a master. From basic jab combos to the mind game, I feel like this book covers it all.

A bit better than a chump now

I've started to get into combat sports through watching UFC and it has made me want to get better at the martial arts. At first, I was unsure about using an audiobook for something fitness based but I do long drives and thought what the hey. It's great, I was getting excited in the car practising my jabs in the middle of the motorway. It has inspired me to join an actual fight gym where I'm doing a mix of ju-jitsu and kickboxing.
