Things might go easier for her if she didn't almost run over the standoffish, beautiful local cop on her first day in town. And it'd really help if her film set wasn't being mysteriously sabotaged. Sutton Spencer's ideas for her life were fairly simple: finish graduate school and fall in love. It would be a lot simpler if she could pinpoint exactly what she should do when she graduates in less than a year. Oh, and if she could figure out how to talk to a woman without feeling like a total mess, that would be great, too. Charlotte Thompson is very much the opposite.

Falling stars are supposed to be a lucky sign, but not for Austen. Her new job as a secretary in an international games company isn't off to a good start. Her first assignment - decorating the Christmas tree in the lobby - results in a trip to the ER after Dee, the company's second-in-command, gets hit by the star-shaped tree topper. Dee blames her instant attraction to Austen on her head wound, not the magic of the falling star. She's determined not to act on it, especially since Austen has no idea that Dee is practically her boss.

Publisher's Summary
Life has become a farcical mess for icy British A-lister Elizabeth Thornton. America's most-hated villain stars in a top-rated TV medical drama that she hates. Now, she's been romantically linked to her perky, new co-star, Summer, due to the young woman's clumsiness. As a closeted actress, that's the last thing Elizabeth needs. If she could just get her dream movie role, life would be so much better. The only problem is that the eccentric French film-maker offering it insists on meeting her "girlfriend", Summer, first.
Summer Hayes is devastated when her co-star shuns her for accidentally sparking rumors that they're lovers. Now the so-called British Bitch has the audacity to ask Summer to pretend to be her girlfriend to get her a role? Elizabeth doesn't even like Summer! Oh, how she'd love to tell her no. And Summer definitely would if it wasn't for the fact she's maybe a tiny bit in love with the impossible woman.
Contains mature themes.

Winter and Dawe: double trouble!
I regularly find myself in trouble after finishing a Lee Winter book, as no other book on my to-read list seems capable of holding my attention.
This edition of Breaking Character pairs Winter's exquisite writing with a masterful performance by Angela Dawe, and the result is... double trouble!
How am I supposed to listen to another audiobook after *this*? 😭
This audiobook raises the quality bar for the genre, and I would highly recommend it.

I loved this book so much when I first read it. Now, on audio, it's even better. Lee Winter has a way with ice queens. And melting them. If I only had 50 books that I was forced to read & re-read for the rest of my life...this would be one of them. Oh, and Angela Dawe's narration is wonderful.

This book is now in my top 5.
I wasn't expecting to like this book much. I don't mind the ice queen storyline, but I've never been into the Hollywood scene in lesfic. There was one review that convinced me to give it a shot. The narration and expert accents (to this plain American) totally drew me in. The storyline kept me listening from start to finish with no breaks. I loved the humor, the plot progression and the love between the two. This will definitely be a repeat listen for me!

Entertaining Book!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Angela Dawe is an excellent narrator, whose different voices, accents, and intonations bring the entire cast of characters to life. Summer, a former child star is trying to cross the bridge into adult roles. She is a cast member of Choosing Hope, a hit medical drama starring renown actress Elizabeth, who has become disillusioned with her role as hated villain in the show. A phot of Elizabeth grabbing Summer to prevent her from a fall leads Hollywood types to speculate on their “romance,” which leads to movie roles, a fake relationship for the movie, a friendship, and finally something much more. It is a charming story!

Fabulous
Wonderful book. Great storyline with fully rounders, believable characters.
I loved the ‘slow burn’ of the developing romance and the added bonus of fake girlfriend.
The sex scenes were great.
Angela Dawe deserves special mention. The narration of a book an make or break it. Angela Dawe makes this book. Her narration is wonderful - eg - different and distinctive voices for the characters. Her English accent wasn’t half bad! Her voice has a lovely cadence and timbre to it.

I've never given a review even after the hundreds of books I've read and audiobooks I've listened too. This has got to be one of the best books ive listened too the story was just fantastic so enjoyable, Lee Winter u are a genius and Angela's performance was the best audiobook I've ever heard and that's saying something never thought I'd ever enjoy a performance more than Abby Craden but here it is. Angela's voices were spot on I'm British and I couldn't hear any fault with her british tone at all, her voice for Elizabeth was so captivating I'm going to listen to this book over and over again that's the rest of my year planned out lol. 😂😂😂

My first Lee Winter experience
I bought this with a bit of trepidation, since most lesbian fiction tends to fall on the cringe side. However after reading some reviews I decided to give it a go and I am so glad I did. The characters are so full and addictive, the development of the relationship between Elizabeth and Summer is absolutely superb. I finished this within days and I am off to indulge myself in the works of Lee Winter.

Fantastic book with a fantastic narrator. I have listened to this book so many times now that I thought it about time I give it a review. Lee's books are always stellar, but this one just wormed its way into my heart that little bit extra. I don't want to just gush with superlatives so lets just say, if you want a great plot, well rounded interesting characters and fantastic narration, this is the audiobook for you. OH. MY. GOD
what a book.
I was just casually skimming through something light and easy to listen to and did not expect this book to be as great as it is. it was captivating from the very beginning, not to mention the performance from Angela Dawe is one of the best I've heard in a long, long time. she captures the characters so perfectly that I never wanted it to end. and when it finally did I listened to it again.
this book is highly recommended for anyone who wants humour, angst, lovable characters, great story telling and simply a memorable love story.

Enjoyable as always
First time listening to Breaking Character and it was even more enjoyable than reading it! Love most of Winter's books and have found Dawe to be an excellent narrator! her Kiwi accent is really good - not as good as her Scottish but still good! Being Australian myself, I'm particular about the accent and know both my favourite narrators (Craden and Dawe) drop the ball on the Aussie accent, which I forgave because they're so good at the overall story (although it was distracting and prevented total emersion into the story). Regarding Chloe's Kiwi accent though Dawe did an awesome job and I honestly loved hearing her take on all the characters.
The book was very entertaining and had a great plot. Both MC's were strong and very lovable ...Summer a little extra lovable (again, her voice suited her very well!). Winter's ice queen/feminine love tropes are the best, and as such this does not disappoint. Whilst characters struggle with certain things in their lives I don't feel like the book is heavy on angst, which I love! Another smart read from a great author that has been narrated very well.

A Must Read
This was the first book I read from Lee Winter and it was the first narration from Angela Dawe that I listened to, both of which just blew me away. Needless to say, I've purchased every single Lee Winter book there is to date and eagerly await the next release. I have listened to this multiple times because it's literally just that good.

Kind of boring
I had this in my wish list for a long time and was saving it for a rainy weekend because of all the positive reviews. I felt a little bored on the story line. I was waiting for the angsty, build up but never really got it.
TLDR; we have Summer (a young rising closeted gay actress) working with an older, grumpier actress who is being slated as a monster by the directors of the show. They don't hit it off straight away, but Summer is persistently trying to get her attention. Then out of nowhere they are linked romantically and have to do a movie together. They then gave to get to know each other because they are trying to convince a movie director that they are in a relationship.
My problem with the romance part of it was that there didn't seem to be a reason for Elisabeths change in heart and Summers persistence...anyways I liked the sexy chapters but that took a while to flourish too.

It’s official, I have a Serious Problem
I have now listened to all of lee winters back catalogue, and my girlfriend has given up trying to interrupt my listening. Even when the plot (eg holywood) does not interest me, I find myself connecting with characters humanity and their sizzling chemistry. Without too many spoilers, I also love that a wedding trope was avoided, power embalance addressed, men not hated. Guilt free ethically.

Predictable but satisfying
The only thing that does this light and enjoyable romance a disservice is the narrator’s absolutely terrible attempt at a kiwi accent.
I enjoyed the book a lot and found it hard to push stop.
The character of the kiwi housemate Chloe was a caricature of a New Zealander- obviously the author just googled “New Zealand facts” and tried to put in a few random quotes to make it believable for those who don’t know. The accent and the sentence structures were a mix of overdone rural slang and Australian outback! Apart from that, Summer and Elizabeth’s voices were pretty well done (even though Elizabeth feels 10-20years older than her character is supposedly). I’m still rating this book as a good light read, just beware if you’re a kiwi, the accent will grate!

A celebrity romance
Lee Winters does it again, brilliantly written, loads of witty humor, full of sexual tension. Angela Dawes once again provides excellent narration, using a diverse range of accents including convincing male voices. Well done ladies.
