Publisher's Summary

Includes audiobook-exclusive coaching sessions from Jess!

You were made for more than a love/hate relationship with your body.

It's one thing to know in your head that you were created in the image of God. Yet it's quite another to experience this belief in your body, against the cultural ideals of a woman's worth. And between the two lies a world of frustration, disappointment, and the shame of somehow feeling both too much and never enough in your body.

Jess Connolly is a best-selling author, sought-after speaker, and trusted Bible teacher who knows this inner conflict all too well, and this book details her journey - and yours - of setting out to discover how to break free from the broken beliefs we all hold about our bodies that hold us back from our fullest life.

The truest thing about you is that you are made and loved by God. And the truest thing about him is that he cannot make bad things. This book will help you believe it with your whole self, as Jess guides you through an eye-opening, empowering process of:

  • Renaming what the world has labeled as less-than
  • Resting in God's workmanship
  • Experiencing restoration where there has been injury
  • And becoming a change agent in partnering with God to bring revival to a generation of women

Far from a superficial issue, self-image is a spiritual issue, because God has named your body good from the beginning. Whether your struggle is with eating and exercise habits, stress or trauma, infertility or injury, this book makes space for you to experience God meeting you in this tender place, and ring his freedom bell over your body in a whole new way.

Completely Life Changing

I don’t usually write reviews. Negative or positive. But I feel compelled to do this review because holy cow, the truth in this book has literally changed my life. I was telling my husband through tears last week that I felt like my constant cycle of body betterment and mistreatment was like a prison. He asked me what we could do to fix it. I said, “I don’t know. It wouldn’t be a prison if I knew a way out.” A few days later, a friend of mine mentions she’s reading this book. I feel it’s something I definitely should look into. I download it and start listening that night. I finished the book in three days. During those three days, there were so many healing tears. It was like listening to the author speak biblical truths over me about my body gave me permission to let go of so many things I shouldn’t have been holding onto. I have a long way to go but I feel FREEDOM and I want to shout it from the rooftops.

I’m in Awe

As a woman who became a Christian when I was very young, as a pastor and Chaplain who ministers to university women, as a daughter, a sister, a friend, never have I ever read such beautiful words rooted in the gospel as this. Jess writes prophetically, calling women to view our bodies through the eyes of our Creator, Sharing her story as an example of how to do this, and breaking things down to the very root of body shame. Honestly I am still letting it all soak into my soul and the very deepest parts that you’re in for healing, but I am excited, inspired, and uplifted in a way I have never been before. I am also more determined, determined to view my body as good, and stop letting the enemy rule my mind, my words, my thoughts, conversations with friends, seasons like summer, and so much more. I have ordered copies for all my women in leadership, and I will give this book out to every friend I know who struggles under the weight and bondage of body shame. I will be a part of the revival the author talks about hoping, wanting, and believing to see. Thank you Jess. From the bottom of my heart.

must read/listen

As a larger lady who wasn't always larger, listening came with its share of tears. But also revelation. How can we call this body less than good if our Creator said it is good? Our worth comes from He who made us not what this world says.

Read this!

This is an amazing book about celebrating God and learning to reroute the negativity of shame that culture has created in our minds and bodies. Every mother, sister, daughter and friend should read this book.

Based on secular movements

Based on body neutrality (sounds like gender neutrality) and body positivity movements, which are hyped by social media and seem positive, but are not grounded in sound Christian truth

So Good and SO needed

Loved it! Jess shared so bravely and in turn I got blessed. I need to hear this. I have struggles and struggled but Jess's perspective gave way to new freedom I had never thought of before. A new way for looking at the body God has given me and discovering love and freedom in it.

Hurray for freedom in Christ!

Fantastic book, sincerely read and prayerfully communicated. You can feel the authors passion in the way she reads and just has to break out in prayer for the readers. Lots to process and the sort of read which I think I'll need to check in with every year or two to keep my mind and heart accountable. The only book I've ever read on the theology of our physical bodies! So so needed! Thanks!
