Publisher's Summary

Number one best seller

I’ll protect her...whether she likes it or not.

Riona Griffin is gorgeous, intelligent, and iron-willed. My perfect woman, except she hates my guts. She thinks she doesn’t need anybody. But she needs me.

She’s being hunted by an assassin who never misses his mark.

I’m going to stay by her side, day and night, keeping her safe. Riona thinks that’s a fate worse than death, but I know she’ll learn to love me.

If this hit man wants to kill her, he’ll have to go through me first.

Broken Vow is the wild and dangerous fifth installment in the Brutal Birthright series. It's a stand-alone bodyguard mafia romance with a HEA and no cliff-hanger. Contains steamy scenes.

Riona's ice cold demeanor melts with Raylan!

Sophie lark, I bow down to your masterful way with words!! You have managed  to get me  to love Riona. And boy, did I love her in this book.

Riona finds herself in need of a bodyguard after a couple attempts are made on her life. You don't know why or who, but, we get some more Raylan ( who we met in Dante's book!)
Raylan is one hot ex military cowboy bodyguard! He is determined to protect her with his life and get her to loosen up.
Sophie doesn't disappoint with this book and the suspense in between the hotter than hell, sizzling chemistry between these two.

Raylan is one dirty dirty sexy man! I'll never look at a barn the same again.
Giddy up.. holy hot barn sex Batman!!

This book had a surprise twist I did not see coming!
I'm hoping there's another book in the works with Raylan's sister, Beau!!

Now I really need Sebastian's book please!!

Narration by Wen Ross as Raylan was on point. He had that perfect Tennessee southern drawl down.
I've never listened to PJ Morgan before and I think she nailed Riona's character!

Broken Vow

Broken Vow is the fifth book in the Brutal Birthright series. This book could be read as a standalone. This book is told from dual points of view by Riona and Raylan.

Riona is a strong heroine. However, when she is attacked in a swimming pool, her brother wants her to have a bodyguard 24/7. This bodyguard turns out to be Raylan. They had a rocky past, and she didn't want him around. He does his job.

As they are together 24/7 they get to know each other a lot better and feelings start to evolve. Can they find out who is after Riona? What will happen between the two when she no longer needs Raylan as a bodyguard? Will they get their happily ever after or will their futures send them separate ways?

I really enjoyed this book, and am excited to see what happens next in this series.

Wen Ross is HOT! 🔥

What could be better than a cowboy and a soldier who is the same man? NOTHING!!! Oh! My! Goodness! I love Raylan! I would let him follow me around and be my bodyguard any day. I was never really fond of Riona, but she actually grew on me during this book. I believe she was misunderstood, and it took someone like Raylan to bring out the real person inside of her.

When she goes back to Tennessee with him and meets his family, she falls in love with the simplicity of the place. She’s not used to the southern hospitality. My brother-in-law’s family is from North Carolina, and they are so much like Raylan’s family. Sophie got it right explaining how people are down there. Plus, my adopted son was born in Knoxville, so it was fun having that city a part of the story.

Sophie couldn’t have picked a better narrator to voice Raylan. He was great with all the accents, but I swooned over Raylan. P.J. was awesome for Riona, too.

Raylan is life

I absolutely loved this book! Riona, her badass lawyer attitude, it’s like she has a stick up her butt and expects too much from others, as if she wants her life to look a certain way. But here comes Raylan that turns her life upside down. They’re total opposites, he’s funny, a bad ass and just fun to be around. He changes her outlook on love and life. Fantastic book and narration!

Love this book

Oh I really enjoyed this book!! I love how the two met and how they starts to fall for each other. I love how smart and loyal our main characters are. It’s a toss between this book and book 1 as my favorite. Wen Ross and PJ Morgan did an amazing job at narrating.

Broken Vow🔥🔥🔥

Where do I begin?I didn’t think I was going to be so engaged with Riona’s story but I was completely hooked. From the previous book I was entertained by the dynamic between her and Raylan and was curious how it would play out when the two of them were in close proximity. It all starts with an attempt on Riona’s life and her need for a bodyguard cause Raylan who she only lets do this because she trusts Dante. They pick at each other and it becomes clear early on that Riona is wound so tight she’s going to do damage. It’s nice being in her head because she becomes a lot more sympathetic and understandable she’s not cold she’s scared.Raylan on the other hand buried his own demons by taking care of others. Both of them have confront who they are and what they want during this wild journey. In the others the threat is a known factor or tied to the love interest. In this the threat to Riona is a giant unknown the source of the hit on her is as mysterious as the very sneaky hit man. They search in a lot of directions with no results and nearly deadly consequences. This is a romance novel so you know our two leads survive, but the tension in how exactly that's going to happen is definitely high.

The spice in this one is also phenomenal. The first time R&R get spicy together I thought my phone was going to start on fire. It wasn't just what they were doing, it's how Lark wrote about it, and what it meant for Riona. Her physical and mental responses and understanding of her own needs was so well written. I think I related to it in a way that I haven't seen other authors write - a sense of madness but in a good way. This one also gets more clearly into kink, and explores the idea of what control really means. You don't think Raylan has it in him, but oh baby, he does.

The other theme in this book is that all families have darkness; while there are definitely different severities, it's a reminder that everyone has experienced fear, shame, and violence. Just because the Boones aren't mafia doesn't mean they don't have their own secrets and tragedies. It's almost like reading two interconnecting books the way that we get to see such distinct ways of living, and yet it all feels completely cohesive. This is very different than the other BB books, and yet definitely feels like a part of the whole.
Also, as a Nero stan, we get to see more of him from an outsider perspective (both Ree's and Raylan's) and it just filled me with glee.

Broken Vow pulls your heart in a lot of different directions, shows powerful, beautiful change on the page, and is a strong reminder that we can choose what we want despite our fear. Loved it, and already looking forward to Heavy Crown...but also sad that I will be leaving this world. If you enjoyed the other books in the series, this will be no different. If we you want to see a strong woman realize vulnerability is not weakness, this is absolutely the book for you.
The Narrators did an outstanding job telling this story and bringing the characters to life.

Raylan was Great!

Another great addition to the series. Raylan deserves a medal for dealing with Riona. Riona becomes a slightly warmer person instead of the cold fish she was before. All this because of Raylan. After a death threat where they almost succeeded, Raylan is her 24/7 bodyguard and he takes her to his family home until the killer is caught. Raylan appears that he is not phased by her attitude. I was hoping for a better ending though. There is a happy for now but it felt rather abrupt. What happens to them next? Wen Ross was great and P.J. Morgan came off like a cold, all business, annoying woman. Initially, Riona was not likeable but eventually she got a little better.

Broken Vow

what the heck, I kinda gotta say I didn't really like Riona in the 1st few books. she was rude and uptight for my liking. but in this book she really let herself go and be more human. It's like they say it will take the right man to tame a woman like her, and the good thing is that he didn't want to change her. he fell in love with her just the way she is and that's the best part. this is a must read. you'll have a different perspective on Riona. I no I did. the narrator did a really great job too 👏👍

5 Stars!

I received this audiobook at my request via promo code from The Flock and this is my honest voluntary review.

Riona Griffin is a shark in the court room. She's always known her place in the family business and she's been content to work alongside her uncle working over the contracts of her family's shadier dealings. She's very independent, type A and career orientated... and when someone tries to kill her while she's having a late night swim, the last thing she wants to tolerate is having Raylan play bodyguard. However, when your family has ties to both the Irish and Italian Mafia's and theres power plays going down with taking out prominent Russian Bratva types, she has to accept that perhaps someone is trying to take her out to destroy the Chicago real estate deals the Gallo and Griffin's have been working on. When someone tries to torch her place, it seems the only sensible course of action is to get Riona a lot of distance between Chicago and those who might be leaking her location. Raylan insists he take her to his family ranch, and while there the hunky former soldier uses his Boone cowboy charm to break her defiant spirit like she sees him tame the horses on the farm. She begins to finally let her heart make all the moves and eventually they fall in love. I really enjoyed this story, seeing how Riona finally found some kind of peace in Raylan's arms. Riona is a typical ENTJ female and Sophie Lark did an amazing job in upping the pressure when an intruder tries to kill Riona all the way down on the farm.

Narration by Wen Ross and PJ Morgan was brilliant.

Not so cold

In the previous books Riona Griffith seemed like a cold person based on the relationships she had with her siblings until she met Dante Gallo. Her friendship with Dante opened her up a little bit more she is introduced to Rayland in Dana’s story and she can’t Stanford him. But when a contract killer is after her Dante calls in Rayland to become her bodyguard and sparks fly. Riona resist but Rayland charms her. The conclusion to the story was well done and I always love to catch up with the Griffith and Gallo families.

Soo good!

Riona is fierce and loyal to her family and wants to earn her spot. She hates people thinking just because she is family she is getting special treatment. When somebody decides they want her dead she has a hard time knowing who it is and what the vendetta is. Why her?

Raylan becomes her body guard and when the hits getting increasingly more dangerous he has to make a split second decision.

This book took a turn I didn't see coming. I was surprised by quite a bit of the events and definitely was kept on my toes and the edge of my seat. I didn't know what was going to happen or who to trust. It was thrilling! I enjoyed the entire ride.

Wen Ross and PJ Morgan did AMAZING on this audio!

My Thoughts on Broken Vow

What a great addition to this series. Sophie Lark has really made an impression on me with this.

Broken Vow features Riona and Raylan. Raylan was introduced in the last book and made a great first impression with his loyalty and humor. Riona has been present since the beginning. She's always come across as fierce, intelligent and devoted to her family. It was even better really getting inside her head. She is such a strong leading lady and I loved her. And Raylan was a good balance for her. He was so chill and laid back. Even knowing he could be extremely dangerous to the wrong person didn't make him less likeable. He was the yin to her yang and clearly gave her what she really needed.

There were so many unexpected moments. So many things I didn't see coming. But it made it the kind of book you didn't want to put down. It just flowed so well.

The narrators were also amazing. Both gave such life to the story and I especially enjoyed the new to me female narrator P.J. Morgan.

Dark Mafia Romance

Broken Vow By Sophie Lark is a dark mafia romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Wen Ross and P.J. Morgan. This is the fifth book in the Brutal Birthright series and each book can be read as a stand-alone.

I absolutely love Sophie’s books! This series just keeps getting better and better. I was hooked from the first chapter and couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next. I really enjoyed the relationship that bloomed between Riona and Raylan.

I can't wait for the next book in the series Heavy Crown to be released on audio so I can get Sebastian and Yelena's story.

Wen and P.J. did an amazing job on the narration. They both really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would highly recommend this book if you like mafia romances, bodyguard romances, contemporary romance, or romantic suspense.
