Publisher's Summary

From the earliest days of his 34-year military career, Victor "Brute" Krulak displayed a remarkable facility for applying creative ways of fighting to the Marine Corps. He went on daring spy missions, was badly wounded, pioneered the use of amphibious vehicles, and masterminded the invasion of Okinawa. In Korea, he was a combat hero and invented the use of helicopters in warfare. In Vietnam, he developed a holistic strategy in stark contrast to the Army's "Search and Destroy" methods---but when he stood up to LBJ to protest, he was punished. And yet it can be argued that all of these accomplishments pale in comparison to what he did after World War II and again after Korea: Krulak almost single-handedly stopped the U.S. government from abolishing the Marine Corps.

Very good. This is the 3rd time I've read this !

Absolutely one of my favorite books. Lessons to be learned all throughout and from every angle. I find myself rewinding and pausing to take note commonly. It's also very amusing at times. Great read ! I can't imagine the amount of research need to acquire the precise and accurate information contained within. I will, more than likely, read it a 4th and 5th time in the future.

Great read!

My wife and I truly enjoyed listening to this book. Brute's contributions to the Marine Corps and the nation are immeasurable!!! This is a must read...especially for Marines. I'm an active duty SgtMaj with 22 years in service and I learned a whole lot from this book.

A great read - they don’t make ‘em like this!

I so enjoyed this book. Narrator was good. It was such an enjoyable way to learn history. So many things I had not realized about the rivalry between the services.

I wish I had read and study this book 30 years ago. Absolutely incredible

The life that Victor brute Krulak lead was incredible. The author did phenomenal job of telling the story. The reader, an equally great job speaking it. I wish I had studied this book 30 years ago.

what a life

at times it's hard to understand why people do what they do, but this book actually did a very good job of explaining where this man came from. The impact that he had on not only just the Marine corps, but the military and total is insurmountable. it truly is incredible to hear the things that individuals have gone through, trials and tribulations, and the results that they have shared the entire world. we need more men like this to do things that they have done and help us keep moving forward.

A not spoke about HERO!

This is a book that every Marine should read. This man was just as important to our history as those more often talked about!
