Publisher's Summary

Whether it's the end of a marriage, a romance or a friendship, break-ups are an unfortunate part of life. They can stir up horrible emotions and make you want to do crazy things. But when comedian Meshel Laurie faced the end of her 19-year marriage, Buddhist philosophy helped her turn her biggest challenge into an opportunity for personal growth and greater happiness.

Now Meshel shows listeners how Buddhism can be a road map for navigating the fear, loneliness and grief of a broken heart. Sharing her own story with humour and honesty, she explains:

  • How the Buddhist concepts of emptiness and impermanence can free us to see things clearly (and calm the heck down!)
  • How to love without attachment
  • The difference between loneliness and aloneness
  • How to work through all those disturbing emotions
  • How to embrace change
  • How to harness wisdom and compassion in order to heal

Way cheaper than hours of therapy, Buddhism for Break-ups is your go-to guide for Zen!

The end of a relationship is one of the most emotionally devastating things a person can go through, whether it’s on mutual, amicable terms or not. It’s no secret why there are millions of songs, poems, and films about breakups—heartbreak, sadly, seems to be a shared human experience. But since it’s so universal, that means there’s no shortage of people to turn to for help and advice on how to weather the worst of it all. These listens offer help.

It's good but I can't relate to it

The background of her story is about her divorce involving kids. I couldn't relate much.

Angry, attitude and self focused. Not Buddhism.

I have it a real good try but I couldn't actually finish the book. It's from the perspective of an obviously angry person focusing on their own needs, expectations and wanting to break up with their partner. The usual self empowerment and taking control of your own life etc. but literally the very opposite of Buddhism. All I got out of it was another power to women and ditch that man attitude.

Good timing

Meshel hit the spot many times re handling breakup... It's always been such hard work for me to get over relationships even though I've initiated the closure , I love the Buddhist view, and Meshels great ideas to handle things in a better way. Funny too, love the humour scattered amongst wise words . Thanks Meshel

Lots of good stuff in here

There's good stuff here for anyone going through a breakup but I think this isn't just for breakups - many of the lessons are for a better life generally. There's good humour sprinkled throughout and the advice is realistic and authentic, with lots of personal failings shared as examples. I will listen to this again to ensure I got the key messages and learnings out of it.

Honest & inspiring

Meshel is an inspiration. Such a honest account of her breakup and how Buddhism helped her gracefully deal with the baggage that break ups bring.
Such a wonderful listen on how including Buddhism in everyday life can calm your mind and soul as we navigate the challenges of our existence.
