Holotropic means "moving toward wholeness," from the Greek holos (whole) and trepein (moving in the direction of). The breathwork utilizes the remarkable healing and transformative potential of non-ordinary states of consciousness. These states engender a rich array of experiences with unique healing potential - reliving childhood memories, infancy, birth and prenatal life, and elements from the historical and archetypal realms of the collective unconscious.

A good way to get started meditating
This collection includes the following shorter works: Meditation for Beginners, The Beginner's Guide to Buddhism, The Beginner's Guide to Forgiveness, and Meditations of the Heart. Each of the six 'sessions' is a class from the author (two of the shorter items have two sessions each.) Each session contains meditation and Buddhist teaching. You will hear some of the same stories/jokes/topics more than once, though never within the same program. I found I didn't really mind, as I was intending to do the meditations multiple times each anyway.
I would have preferred it if the chapter divisions had allowed separate access to the meditations and teaching (since I anticipate doing the meditations more than once.)
There is some ambient room noise, but it is pretty minimal. I didn't find it distracting.
Overall, I as a person just getting familiar with meditation, I really got a lot out of it, and would recommend it to others.

As a new Buddhist I found Jack's style of teaching phenomenal. He really made it easy to pick up and taught concepts, not monastical practices. Very easy to pop in the headphones and follow along on some of his guided meditations. Must read for anyone interested in meditation!

Repeat, repeat
This book is disappointing because it a jumble of lectures/seminars/talks, some of which are repeated almost verbatim!
The content is interesting and informative-once. But hearing the same anecdote three times becomes tedious.

Some good stuff but audio needs editing
There are some helpful meditation pointers here although Jack Kornfield is a little too New Age for my taste.
Technically there is a problem with the editing of this audio book. Towards the end, whole sections are word-for-word, story-for-story, joke-for-joke repeats from earlier sections. Perhaps an error happened when the CD version was converted to digital download format.

Thoughtful wisdom, and sparkling charm
Kornfield delivers the essential ideas of Buddhism with delightful freshness. He teaches the principles and recounts stories with a voice that is at once soothing and captivating.
It's a good introduction to the ideology, delivered in a playful, honest tone that embodies it's spirit.
It's also an ideal book for going to sleep. There's no particular narrative to keep your attention. You can start it and stop it anywhere. And Kornfield's voice is like a lullaby.

Inspiring, instructive, nice story, but repetitive
Would you listen to Buddhist Meditation for Beginners again? Why?
Same story are repeated, throughout the 6 chapters. Still it is helping to understand concepts. Kornfield is interesting to listen to. He is also really funny. Good sense of humor. The format was not as expected, this can explain the repetivness.
Would you be willing to try another book from Jack Kornfield? Why or why not?
For sure

Really enjoyable and not too 'out there'
I've had an interest in meditation and buddhism for a while but have been put off many programmes because they seem at bit too woo woo.
I wanted something practical, instructional, yet warm and enjoyable. Jack Kornfield pulls off all 3 here.
His voice is great - and I was able to get into the meditations really easily.

excellent introduction
I have been struggling to find any inner peace after a very hurtful business experience. living with daily fear and anxiety I needed to find a way to change my perspective on life and find a new way forwards. This audiobook and its author has been more than a little helpful since the author personally guides you through a series of meditations after explaining the basic Buddhist teaching behind the practice. You don't need to be Buddhist or even meditative to find this book helpful as it takes you simply and lovingly through simple exercises that can help everyone. It all makes sense and after only a few hours working through these meditation exercises I feel calm and renewed. Meditation will become a regular practice for me starting by using these guided sessions daily before working on my own. I feel supported and upheld in the loving kindness that is shown in such an everyday down to earth way through this volume. I would certainly recommend it!

Jack Kornfield is inspirational.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this book to anybody with an interest in learning about buddhism and/or meditation.
What other book might you compare Buddhist Meditation for Beginners to, and why?
The book is a collection of Jack Kornfield meditations with introductions which have been collected from other recordings available by Jack Kornfield. A best of for beginners, if you like!
Which scene did you most enjoy?
The book is a mini introduction into Buddhist meditation and beliefs. Each meditation can be listened to separately or as a continuous educational piece.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
I doubt you could make this into a film, but if they did it would be"loving kindness to all" or something like that.
Any additional comments?
I am truly glad to have discovered Jack Kornfield. I find him inspiring and could listen to his narration all day long. I would have given this book 5 stars for all categories however two of the meditations are almost, if not identical.
