Atlanta, 1974: It's Kate Murphy's first day on the job, and the Atlanta Police Department is seething after the murder of an officer. Before the day has barely begun, she already suspects she's not cut out to be a cop. Her male uniform is too big, she can't handle a gun, and she's rapidly learning that the APD is hardly a place that welcomes women. Worse still, in the ensuing manhunt she'll be partnered with Maggie Lawson, a cop with her own ax to grind.

Publisher's Summary
From Karin Slaughter comes a fast and furious tale in which no one is quite who they seem. This electrifying novella featuring Will Trent is a prequel to Slaughter's novel Unseen, a New York Times best seller.
Detective Will Trent is standing in a Georgia convenience store, waiting on an obstinate ICEE frozen-drink machine. To the surveillance cameras and bored staff of the Lil' Dixie Gas-n-Go, however, Will appears to besome one very different - the menacing ex-con Bill Black. Going undercover as Bill, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent is about to infiltrate the most corrupt town in the most corrupt county in the new American South. But first: his ICEE.
Everything changes in one horrific instant, as all hell breaks loose at the Lil' Dixie. A cop is shot. A bag of cash goes flying across the floor. A young woman disappears while a killer takes off in a battered pickup truck. Within seconds, Will is in pursuit.

Not worth using a credit :(
One credit or $9.95 seems steep for a novella that is just over two hours long. I love the Will Trent series though so I went for it. The plot was very confusing- way too many characters- and while it started with potential (Will undercover as an ex-con) that part of the storyline went by the wayside and wasn't even picked back up as a teaser for the next book. Sarah Linton was not a part of this story other than one gratuitous mention. This novella was like watching a one hour episode of the A Team. It filled some time with some shooting and a motorcycle chase but was essentially unfulfilling.

not her best work
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I bought this thinking it would add to the series in an interesting way.. It was so boring and the performance made me feel like she was yelling the entire novella.
Would you ever listen to anything by Karin Slaughter again?
sure, because i have really enjoyed her other books.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
just seems annoyingly loud and brash
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
not much

Should have listened to the reviews
Any additional comments?
I loved all of the Will Trent Series including all the short stories up to this one. I read the reviews on this one because I didn't want to spend $10 on a 2 hour mini book but the her 1st mini book was so good and helped tie the series together. But this one was not nearly as good. I would highly rate all of her other books. This one just fell flat for me.

Love Karin's work and love to hear Kathleen read!
Big fan of karins and will trent so maybe I'm biased. Any story about will I love and little hits in between novels are just precious. Busted is like that - a perfect snack that leaves you satisfied but not too small that you want more (right away anyway). Karin's stories are well, the perfect snack.
And when Kathleen Early reads them - it's the cherry on top!
My only complaint - karin, I loved Coptown but I need my will and Sarah?! Now I hear there is another off topic novel for 2015? What's up??!!
Enjoy Busted - I did

Not nearly as deep in plot and storylline but definitely makes up for it in laugh out loud moments. A fun story if you like Will Trent!
I will listen to anything by Karen Slaughter, I have been reading and now listening to her books for years and know and love all her characters like my own family. This is a short story where Will is just in the wrong place at that wrong time, follows the many twists and solves the crime. Fun listen!
