You belong to me and I know it down deep, in muscle and bone, where my wolf lives. Avery Rhine isn’t an average homicide detective with the Chicago PD. In fact, Avery isn’t an average anything. Sure, as an omega he knows he’s at the bottom of the food chain, but that’s never slowed him down. He’s got a great life, complete with a loving family and a best friend who’d take a bullet for him, so what more could he possibly want or need? Except, maybe, for the world to change.

Publisher's Summary
Sequel to Bulletproof
Jory Harcourt is finally living the dream. Being married to US Marshal Sam Kage has changed him-it's settled the tumult of their past and changed Jory from a guy who bails at the first sign of trouble to a man who stays and weathers the storm. He and Sam have two kids, a house in the burbs, and a badass minivan. Jory's days of being an epicenter for disaster are over. Domestic life is good.
Which means it's exactly the right time for a shakeup on the home front. Sam's ex turns up in an unexpected place. A hit man climbs up their balcony at a family reunion. And maybe both of those things have something to do with a witness who disappeared a year ago. Marital bliss just got a kick in the pants, but Jory won't let anyone take his family away from him. Before he knew what it felt like to have a home, he would have run. Not anymore. He knows he and Sam need to handle things together, because that's the only way they're going to make it.

The last Sam & Jory story
Would you listen to But for You again? Why?
Over and over. It's a favorite series.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Jory, of course. Sam calls him a trouble-magnet and that he is. Gets into so much trouble, but at the same time is a well of unexpected courage and resourcefulness. I wish I had a RL friend like Jory...I'd never be bored and I know he'd be there for me no matter the predicament. Love love love him. (Sam, too!)
What about Finn Sterling’s performance did you like?
The prior book in the series, Bulletproof, was read by perhaps the worst narrator in the genre, so Finn Sterling was a breath of fresh air. He did both Sam's and Jory's voices perfectly. Also great for the kids and other adult characters. His female voices need a little work. :)
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I almost did!
Any additional comments?
The last Sam & Jory story. I just want to slip away and cry in some dark corner for awhile. Finn Sterling's narration was stellar for the most part. The female voices could use some work, but the men and kids were excellent. Thanks, Mary Calmes, for allowing me to be a part of Sam and Jory these past four books. Here's to one hell of a thrilling, romantic ride! While the entire series is highly recommended, listeners will most likely be disappointed in the narration of the third audiobook, Bulletproof, as the narrator is quite simply...awful. As I listened to the series, I ended up skipping #3 and re-read the book instead.

Ahhh . . . domestic bliss for Sam and Jory
Finally, the long awaited final installment to the Matter of Time series; not counting Parting Shot b/c that is really Aaron's book and can be read as a stand alone. This is the story of a very domestic Sam and Jory, with a splash of Jory's trouble magnet tendencies thrown in of course. The new narrator does a great job, especially with Sam's deep voice. Jory comes off a little more "camp" than the other books, but overall very good narration. I've read this story multiple times, so it was really nice to hear it come to life. This is not something anyone will enjoy as a stand alone book, but if you are a fan of the series, it is a must have.

Yay! Jory 💞 Sam
Any additional comments?
I listened to this a few days ago, so I can't remember details about why I fell in love with this story all over again. I read this a while ago. But it was awesome! The feeling of betrayal, some action, so much love, a beautiful unconventional family, Jory and his quirkiness, Sam and his sexiness, and a fabulous plot, all the making for an awesome story. Which this was.
And I fall in love with 💖Finn Sterling's💖 narrative performance a little bit more every time I hear his voice! I'll sooooooo be listening to this again.

Better narrator than the last book.
What did you like about this audiobook?
The narrator was almost perfect and really brought Jory to life. I was a bit worried during the first chapter when he sounded too much like the stereotypical gay characters from Hollywood, but that faded as the story progressed and the way he did Sam's voice was the best out of all the narrators in this series.
How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?
Well it made me want to buy more of the author's books.
Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?
'She' did a great job getting me interested in these characters' lives. And cured my usual dislike of 1st person POV narrative.
What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?
The way he did the voices of women and children could use a lot of improvement. They were grating/annoying.
Do you have any additional comments?
I liked Finn's performance and hope he narrates more books.

FINALLY! All of the Matter of Times series is on Audible! Jody is still crazy as ever, especially since he has Sam all locked down! Love the mimivan attack! Hilarious!
I even like the Kage kids... this is a great way to end Sam and Jody then introduce Duncan with Aaron! All Calmes fans need this in their collection...
Narration is no Paul Morey, but it will do. Wasn't awesome, but wasn't bad either...

Love this series
Would you consider the audio edition of But for You to be better than the print version?
No, not in this one. I am so used to Paul Morey reading Jory and Sam that it was hard to get into Finn Sterling. His voices were good with the men, but his voices for the women got on my nerves. Asa and Dylan sounded like they were jersey girls or old women from the Broncs. But other than that it was enjoyable.
What other book might you compare But for You to and why?
Any of the other MOT or Parting Shot
What three words best describe Finn Sterling’s performance?
Pretty Good!
Who was the most memorable character of But for You and why?
Jory, of course
Any additional comments?
I love this series, you either love Sam and Jory or you don't. I love this whole series and have listened or read it several times. You cannot go wrong with Mary Calmes.

Best of the narrators in this series
While I love this series and re-read it often, this was my first time listening to the audio books. Of the three different narrators for this series, this one had the best. The first one was mildly ok. The second one almost made me turn it off. This is one was pretty good. He didn’t take away from the story. The voices he chose were different enough I could tell who was talking without resorting to weird accents like the guy in the first two books.

This narrator really does this series justice
I really liked how Finn Sterling . I felt like his interpretation of Jory's and Sam's
I really liked Finn Sterling's interpretation of Sam's and Jory's voices, and he does an excellent job of differentiating the character's voices so I know exactly who's talking. (I honestly wish he'd been the one reading all the books).

Jory might as well be a woman in this portrayal
Any additional comments?
I am a fan of Mary Calmes and seek out her books but this particular book could have been a male/female romance since J. is portrayed as a woman both in the writing and in the narration. I want gay men to act like men in m/m romances, not act like women.
