Publisher's Summary

Sometimes to truly know a person, you have to read between the lines.

Isabelle is completely lost. When she first began her career in publishing after college, she did not expect to be twenty-five, still living at home, and one of the few Black employees at her publishing house. Overworked and underpaid, constantly torn between speaking up or stifling herself, Izzy thinks there must be more to this publishing life. So when she overhears her boss complaining about a beastly high-profile author who has failed to deliver his long-awaited manuscript, Isabelle sees an opportunity to prove her worth and finally get the recognition she deserves. All she has to do is go to the author's Santa Barbara mansion and give him a quick pep talk or three. How hard could it be?

But Izzy quickly finds out she is in over her head. Beau Towers is not some celebrity lightweight writing a tell-all memoir. He is jaded and withdrawn and—it turns out—just as lost as Izzy. But despite his standoffishness, Izzy needs Beau to deliver, and with her encouragement, his story begins to spill onto the page. They soon discover they have more in common than either of them expected, and as their deadline nears, Izzy and Beau begin to realize there may be something there that wasn't there before.

Best-selling author Jasmine Guillory's reimagining of a beloved fairy tale is a tale as old as time . . . for a new generation.

Waterworks

I don’t know what I expected but this was far from it and I’m glad.
I am typically a nonfiction reader and just recently started looking into more fiction books. I didn’t read the description on this, so it was all a surprise for me. This story was amazing! I cried in my car while traveling, I felt like I was apart of the story always replying back to the characters! Get the book. You won’t regret it.

Wonk Wonk

Oh dear what happened... this is the 2nd JG book that has been an utter disappointment. I keep looking for the Wedding Date and the Proposal level writing. I fell in love with those characters and their stories. This book blah blah bland boring. I want a refund..

A PG-13 Mistake…

I’ve read all of Jasmine Guillory’s books, which made me purchase this. Maybe I should have paid attention to the fact that the story was written under Disney and has a fairytale theme because then I 100% would NOT have shown interest in this book. It took me the longest to get through it because of my lack of interest in the PG-13 storyline. In addition, the narrators voice and portrayal of the characters? NO (positive) WORDS.

If you want rainbows, butterflies, Disney-themed stories and are a teenager, then this book is for you. If not, do yourself a favor and SKIP IT.

By the Book

This has so far been my least favorite book because of the narrator. I constantly forgot that the characters were Black. I found her voice and narration somewhat annoying. So many times I wanted to give up on it. The story line was cute. I liked the characters yet felt an injustice was done.

Beauty and the Beast

The story is a modern beauty and the beast. It’s cute! The cultural likes are heavily blurred though. You only know a character is Black because the author describes them as “Black”… it seemed forced and inauthentic. It didn’t take away from their chemistry or the story itself.

One of my new faves!

Kudos to Jasmine - highlighting black girls who love books and fairytales! Sarah Hollis did a great job - I couldn’t stop listening. And Beau was the misunderstood book crush we didn’t know we needed!

This was soooo damn good!

Isabelle was the absolute star for me! She was absolutely relatable how she tempered herself in corporate America as an African American woman, found courage & her voice outside of it in a space where she was safe and able to thrive and be her fully competent self. I saw it and loved every bit of it! She found love with an incredible lovely hurt man who also found his way and Izzy too. Soooo good, so well written 👏🏽 and so incredibly narrated by Sara Hollis. Sara has a beautiful voice and beautiful laugh. I'll marinate in the good feels I got from this book for awhile. I highly recommend.
