Story
People who have experienced a traumatic event may feel a wide range of emotions, such as anxiety, anger, fear, and depression. The truth is that there is no right or wrong way to react to trauma, but there are ways that they can heal from experience and uncover their own capacity for resilience, growth, and recovery. Psychotherapy is a crucial component of mental health treatment. Three of the most common approaches are cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

Your child can overcome big emotions. Anxiety, depression, stress, anger, and trauma are all thought to be adult related concerns. Young children do not have the skill set to help them work through these problems on their own. It is no wonder why your child may be acting out if they are feeling confused and frightened by what they are thinking or feeling. As a parent, you want to help your child work through these big emotions and strengthen the skills your child needs to overcome these emotions in the future.

Story
The difficulty and cost of training psychotherapists properly is well known. It is far easier to provide a series of classes while ignoring the more challenging personal components of training. Despite the fact that the therapist's self-insight and emotional maturity are critical for successful psychotherapy, knowledge and technical skills are the focus of most training programs. As a result, the therapist's personal growth is either marginalized or ignored. The Making of a Therapist counters this trend by offering therapists a personal account of this important inner journey.

Possibly dangerous......
I was looking for a book that might be appropriate for my teen clients and their parents. While the principles in this book are excellent and have a strong evidence base, the "how" part is simply missing. I'm concerned that teens who can't simply do what is recommended will end up feeling worse than before they started, as little to no attention is paid to the fact that the employing these interventions is neither simple or easy. Admittedly, it's a delicate dance to be encouraging yet realistic, but it's a crucial one; the teens who are supposed to employ these interventions are struggling and are naturally skeptical of adults. Acknowledging that is part of the dance.
The narrator is a whole other story. I'm pretty sure this book was not read by a machine, but in many places it sounded like a robot. The other crucial factor is the narrator's fluency. She is not fluent. Perhaps this she is not familiar with the subject matter, but I don't think that is the problem. Audiobook narrators must be able read easily and with natural rhythm and inflection. That is not the case here.
