Publisher's Summary

An awkward girl's account of inexperience, sexual mishaps, and too much tequila....

Needing a change, Rayne Meyers, aka Calamity Rayne, sets out to be a personal assistant for one of the wealthiest families in the world. What could possibly go wrong? Inexperienced with sophisticated settings, she does her best not to screw things up too severely, except there's one complication she didn't foresee: her boss' devastatingly charming son, Hale Davenport.

Hale is everything Rayne is not. He's experienced, mature, and methodical about every part of his life. But when he meets his father's new assistant, a woman nothing like the calculating females he's used to, he is captivated and prepared to throw caution to the wind. Turns out, slightly awkward and sometimes silly sex might be exactly what his love life's been missing and everything his heart didn't see coming.

This is a pretty good romantic comedy!

In the beginning Rayne was getting on my nerves, but I hung in there, and it got better. The relationship between Hale and Rayne is sizzling. There is a lot of adult content in this one. Rayne says some hilarious things, and is very descriptive. Narrator Ashley Trumpler is fantastic! She isn't just reading the book - she is performing! She takes on different voices, and you know which character is speaking. This book is to be continued, and I can't wait to listen to part 2. #Tagsgiving, #Sweepstakes, #AshleyTrumpler, #witty, #funny, #romantic, #findingyourway, #

Fun, sexy, laugh out loud, but with a cliffhanger

Rayne is socially inept, immature, sexually inexperienced 30 year old. She wants an adventure, she gets it with the Davenports. Leaving Oregon to become a personal assistant to THE Remington Davenport, the brash, obnoxious, filthy rich patriarch of the family.
He is challenging, demanding, exhausting. She is thrown into the lifestyle of the rich and famous for which she is unaccustomed to. Along with Remington, the crew, his handsome son, Hale, they yacht down the east coast to his home in Florida. Rayne keeps telling herself, " I'm the help I can't get involved with his son. " But she and Hale both eventually give in to their attraction to each other. Their romance is sexy, flirty, fun.
Lydia Michaels story is fun, emotional, laugh out loud and with some tears. She gives Rayne a great personality unlike what the Davenports are used to. She's a breath of fresh air to their stoic life. She lets us into the mind and conscience Rayne. Sometimes her crazy thoughts ends up being verbal garbage she blurts out unexpectedly, which makes it for some tense, laugh out loud moments.
There's plenty of angst, misunderstandings, mind games, secrets, insecurities, fun, twists, add an unexpected heart wrenching cliffhanger.
Ashley Trumpler totally made this a fun story. I can't express how much an entertaining narrator she is. She really brought this story to life! She captured every emotion, every voice. Every character's personality was perfection! She flawlessly transitioned from one character to another. Thank you for the great listen! I wish i could give 10 stars.

This audiobook is a GEM!

This is the first book in the Gets a Life Series, a Romantic Comedy. This book is a GEM! Rayne is a fantastic character, full of sass, talkative, and spontaneous. Her inner voice is hilarious. I need a friend like her in my life! Hale is handsome, enigmatic, and caring. Their chemistry is undeniably sizzling. Remington, Hale’s father, is commanding, and demanding. The storyline is beautifully written, hilarious and emotional. The story ends with a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to listen to Back Again, the next book in the Series. Ashley Trumpler is a new narrator to me. She did a fantastic job with the narration. Her performance is outstanding. I enjoyed this audiobook, and I highly recommend it. #AudiobookObsession

The talents of Lydia Michaels!

This is the second title I have listened to by Lydia Michaels and I am so impressed with her versatility. This first was a beautifully written romance, and now I am laughing through the marvelous romcom! Calamity Rayne is the perfect way to spend a couple of days in the life of Rayne. She is finding her way, a little immature, and what I love about her the most is her inability to filter what comes out of her mouth. I love characters like this! She just makes me laugh! When she meets Hale Davenport, she could not have met a more opposite man, but he is smitten with her. These two bond immediately and it is charming the way the two change and are effected by each other. This is a real testament to Michaels writing. She has me laughing, sometimes annoyed but completely endeared by this story! It's got fantastic secondary characters(like Remington Davenport) and just had my earbuds stuck in my ears! Now to get the second book lined up, as this one does leave us hanging! More adventures with Rayne may be just what we need to get us through the winter!

Ashley Trumpler gives an outstanding performance. Spot on comedic timing and fabulous voices keep the story flowing. It's my first listen by her and she is one I will definitely be watching for in the future!

laugh out loud fun

I laughed a lot while listening to this book. Calamity Rayne trials and tribulations reminded me of a comedy of errors. The book was so well written and Calamity Rayne was aptly named. The narration was done well and did the story justice. Listening to this book was a lot of fun and well needed after an angsty listen.

Ack! It a cliffhanger!

I have now listened to four Lydia Michaels books now. They have all been SO different. I'm amazed at her versatility. This book was slow to start. I was beginning to think that it would be my least favorite. But as the story rolled on, I fell in love with Rayne.

I was laughing out loud so much. I mean, she says what she thinks, and she's funny! If only I had the freedom. I chuckled so much. I loved her relationship between the various characters, especially Remington Davenport, her boss and Hale's father. Hale quietly, and easily, won my heart as the story progressed.. There were some serious moments that keep you invested in the characters. I really enjoyed this book.

At 12 hrs+, I was expecting a full story. I was disappointed that there's a Book 2 to find out how it ends. I mean, I guess you could say there is a HFN for Hale and Rayne?? I may be stretching that though.

Ashley Trumpler was fantastic!! She brought this book to life. There was so much emotion in this performance. It's one I won't be able to forget. She does male and female voices really well. I could listen to her all day. He performance was perfection. A new top narrator to put on my list of favorites.

Fantastic for fans of Penny Reid's rom-coms

Move over, quirky rom-com heroines! Rayne beats them all. She is funny, witty, silly, intelligent, socially awkward, and snarky. What a lovable, hilarious character who is strangely relatable. This is in my top 3 favorite rom-coms ever. The story is constantly amusing and sometimes surprising. I am really impressed with the writing, which rivals and surpasses that of the most famous rom-com writers today. There is a cliffhanger, but that just makes me happy that there will be another Calamity Rayne book to look forward to. This book gave me 12 full hours of awesome entertainment. I highly recommend this to all rom-com fans, especially to fans of Penny Reid. This audiobook has a similar type of adorkable heroine and a similar amount of drama among the laughs as in “The Hooker and the Hermit” and “Neanderthal Seeks Human”, but I love this one more than those books.

The heroine Rayne Meyers just turned 30 and is sort of a mess. Now, she has the bright idea of becoming a personal assistant to someone rich so that she can get a taste of luxury and jump-start her dead-end life in Oregon. Her clever best friend actually finds her such a dream job, and Rayne starts a grand adventure being a PA to a cranky old guy on a yacht trip! A regular woman on a yacht trip with the rich and famous is my idea of a fun setting for a book. The old guy's charming son, Hale, is surprisingly attracted to Rayne. Hale is sexy, funny, thoughtful, patient, and really hot in the bedroom. I really love how he sees something special and sexy in Rayne. Their chemistry is red hot, and the book is very steamy.

The narrator, Ashley Trumpler, is superlative! I am surprised that this is only her second audiobook. She expertly switches from Rayne's quirky inner monologues to Hale's super sexy male voice to his dad’s cranky but cultured accent. Every character's voice is perfect and distinctive, and she brings the book vibrantly to life. Ashley Trumpler is a narrator to watch for. I am blown away by her sense of humor and her sheer talent.

It’s been awhile since I had a book keep me up to listen all night. But this book did just that. Great Story with heat and unexpected turns. Wish it wasn’t a cliffhanger, and if so that the book was at least on Audible! Hopefully it comes soon!
Narrative was done great as well:)

4 Stars

I received this audiobook via a promo code at my request from Audiobook Obsession and this is my voluntary review.

You don’t want to know the things that go through my head. Trust me, it’s Crazyland up there.- Rayne Meyers

The stream of consciousness in this book is quirky as all hell, and thats before you get to meet Rayne and her dumpster fire of verbal explosions lol. She shakes up the world of the rich snobs who employ her as an assistant.

Its a fun read.
