What does it take to go from growing up in a Mississippi housing project to becoming a master sergeant and a celebrity chef serving in the White House under four United States presidents?

Call Me Chef, Dammit! is the inspiring story of Andre Rush, who became an overnight sensation in 2018, after a photograph of his now-famous 24-inch biceps went viral. However, his journey to that moment could never be captured in a fleeting moment.

From his childhood working on a farm, to his developing into a gifted athlete and artist to his joining the Army, Rush has dedicated his life to serving others. During his 24-year military career, his reputation as an award-winning cook eventually led him to the Pentagon. His presence in the building when the plane struck on 9/11/2001 led to his suffering from PTSD, and he has become an outspoken advocate for the military and especially for wounded warriors.

Every step of the way, Chef Rush has overcome tremendous obstacles, including battling stereotypes and racism. And in this memoir, he shares not only his wounds and what he experienced along the road to recovery but also the optimism, hope, and hard-earned wisdom that have encouraged countless others.

Service Before Self….. #ArmyStyle 🇺🇸

Chef….. thank you for sharing your story with us.

It’s interesting how sometimes, even when we know a person personally, we create their past, their story in our head. Having the opportunity to hear Chef’s struggles and perseverance is humbling.

Chef’s story shared the side of the military that the civilian sector rarely sees. To learn Chef had to overcome setbacks, struggles, and defeats courtesy of military hospitals, the highest, most senior ranking officers and everything in between on top of 9/11……

I encourage E V E R Y O N E to listen to his story….. for sharing your life with us, #ThankYOUChef 🥹🇺🇸💪🏾

Hurry up and download. That’s an order!

What an incredible and well told story of someone born with natural grit, supported and cared for by his mother, pushed to demand perfection by his father (and also, Virgo 🙋🏼‍♀️). He seemed to stumble into a career that he loves, while also finding ways to pick up a million other talents along the way. A gentle giant that will not hesitate to go beast mode when speaking for those that do not have a voice. What an inspirational story - makes you want to attack the day.

Extraordinary and highly recommended

A gritty, honest, compelling story of a true American hero— a man who embodies the very best of what all of us strive to be— forged in an almost unimaginably brutal cauldron of racism, bias and adversity. Astonishing.

Fresh. "Can Do" how to. Interesting tales.

Refreshing read. Entertaining and interesting. Real time narration, not rehearesed. Pleasure listening. Loved hearing about his ability to care about others as a professional and his duty motivation to serve. This man is truly not burdened with self importance.

I couldn’t stop listening to it!

Call Me Chef, Dammit! is truly an inspirational story of doing what you have to do to survive. From childhood trauma and racism to 9/11 and combat trauma, this is a story of not only surviving, but thriving! Leading from the front. Chef Rush’s story shows you how believing in yourself, and taking chances you think are beyond your level, can lead you down a path you didn’t even know existed. Battles with life and death. You will learn what a good leader looks like, how a bad one looks, and how one leader can destroy a unit and lives, or can cause life-changing positive ripple effects.

Thank you, Chef Rush, for being the role model so many need! Keep focusing on the positives and changing lives.
