When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, Cornelia Fort was already in the air. At 22, Fort had escaped Nashville’s debutante scene for a fresh start as a flight instructor in Hawaii. She and her student were in the middle of a lesson when the bombs began to fall, and they barely made it back to ground. Still, when the US Army Air Forces put out a call for women pilots to aid the war effort, Fort was one of the first to respond. She became one of just over 1,100 women from across the nation to make it through the Army’s rigorous selection process and earn her silver wings.

Publisher's Summary
Too often we lean into the wrong things and burn out. We buy society's lie that our worth is our work, our value is our vocation, our calling is our career. Confusing what we do with who we are wreaks havoc on our bodies, our souls, and our relationships.
Called Out is a deeply personal book from Paula Faris, the beloved on-air reporter for ABC News and former co-host of The View. She shares her journey through conquering fears that nearly kept her from the high-profile, high-stakes world of broadcast journalism, and then the dangers when that world threatened to consume her. She burned out and faced public humiliation, physical breakdowns, and family struggles. But along the way, she heard God gently calling her out of that dangerous place. As she struggled to find who she was outside of what she did, she discovered her true purpose and true calling. Today, she is the host of ABC's popular podcast Journeys of Faith.
Written with passion and conviction, this book reflects on what it truly means to be called, how to move past the fear holding you back, and how to walk in God's path for you.

Beautiful to listen to, impactful for my heart
I SO enjoyed listening to Paula’s story, AND her voice! I’m inspired to reflect on the things that make me curious, and then to let them pull me farther into my vocational calling. Something else I don’t think I’ll forget soon is connected to her interview with Dan: I don’t have to make a BIG difference every day, I can simply make a little difference in the lives of those around me. That will be enough. So the pressure is off. How freeing? And so beautiful!

Courageous and Enlightening
Paula Faris has the courage and passion to say what so many others fear to admit. Our value is so much more than the authority of our titles and size of our paychecks.
It took me four months to listen to this audio book because I treated it like a study guide or, more accurately, a meditation guide.
Paula weaves scripture and lessons of faith into her candid narrative, and she doesn't shy away from admitting her faults and false beliefs.
I read Dan Harris' 10% Happier a couple of years ago, and I got the same feeling while absorbing his words--the feeling that the author truly wanted to share a journey to help the reader now... TODAY.
Most importantly, Paula Faris inspires hope, strength, and a new way of framing our daily lives with the knowledge that our vocation has meaning and power beyond our imagining.
I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking to reconcile their profession with their spirit. Or anyone who has ever been burnt out, discouraged, insecure, plagued by impostor syndrome, lost, confused, bored, stuck, mislead, misinformed, force-fed the Kool-Aid, or just generally conflicted.
