Refuge, New Hampshire, is a small town. The kind found on postcards. Their biggest concern is the rowdy summertime revelers making their way up from Massachusetts and New York. And with most of the town's residents in neighboring Ashland, for the Fourth of July fireworks show, Refuge is quieter than usual. That is, until the Baptist church's bell starts ringing - on its own. The bell chimes faster and faster, reaching a frenetic pace, as though rung by the Devil himself. But the bell is just the beginning.

Lost in time, the town of Black Creek, Kentucky becomes home to temporal layers of people, creatures, and monsters from disparate eras. Journey beyond the time of humanity and witness the rewriting of mankind’s genesis. For Owen McCoy, a typical day on the job as head of security for Synergy, a research company conducting mysterious experiments, is boring at best. And that’s the way he likes it. Patrolling the Appalachian mountainside, where his now deceased father taught him how to hunt, is relaxing and connects him to the past.

Publisher's Summary
The fabled Elephant Graveyard has been discovered. It contains enough ivory to make Ethiopia a wealthy nation. But the cave contains more than physical riches - it also holds the means to control the world. Fifteen scientists enter the cave. Only one leaves.
Jack Sigler, Callsign: King (field leader of the covert, black ops Chess Team) receives a cryptic text from Sara Fogg, his girlfriend and CDC "disease detective". A catastrophic disease has been reported in Ethiopia's Great Rift Valley, but Fogg suspects something more is going on. Her suspicion is confirmed when King's arrival in Africa is met by a high speed assassination attempt.
As King fights against two competing, high-tech mercenary forces, each struggling for control of the deadly discovery, Fogg disappears. Working with the surviving member of the science team that made the discovery, King begins a search for Fogg and the source of the potential plague that takes him back to the Great Rift Valley, back to the Elephant Graveyard, and brings him face-to-face with modern man's origins.

A great listen
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would definitely recommend this audiobook and have. My reason being, that it is a high quality recording of a fun, action-packed story.
What about Jeffrey Kafer’s performance did you like?
Jeffery Kafer does a great job bringing these characters to life, the inflections in his voice work really well. I had never listened to an audio book before and now, thanks to a great story and a fantastic job by Kafer, I wonder what ever took me so long. I look forward to listening to more.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely, I couldn't turn it off until the end, it had me transfixed.
Any additional comments?
This book was my introduction to Jeremy Robinson and I am so glad for it as he is a great, fun writer. I would urge people to read/listen to the 3 Chess Team books before listening to this as it does follow on, but, it can also be enjoyed as a stand alone. It has all the action that you expect to find from these 2 authors, great characters, great storyline - it makes you want to keep reading even after the last page.

The King without the Chess Team
This novella was a good story in the Chess Team series. Focus is all on King and we get plenty of action like the other books in the series. No doubt this threat will expand into the rest of the series.

More About Jack Sigler
Any additional comments?
I listened to the audio version of this book, and once again it was a wonderful experience. The story was intense but a lot of fun, and of course Jeffrey Kafer's narration brought it to life.
I enjoy the storyline involving the elephant graveyard and liked having some familiar characters back. I am anxious to get the next book in this series, hopefully the audiobook again.

Great continuation of Chess Team and KING
Would you listen to Callsign: King, Book I again? Why?
Jeffrey Kafer's performance was captivating and he really brought KING to life with his portrayal of the strong and sensitive Jack Sigler. I would listen again and definitely recommend to others.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Callsign: King, Book I?
Can I tell you that my most memorable moments were when Jeffrey Kafer took on the gritty, tough, soldier KING. The scene in the hospital with the many flying grenades, devices, and expletives, was classic Robinson/Ellis drama, but with the nuances Kafer does well, it certainly became pretty memorable.
Which scene was your favorite?
One of favorite scenes, was when King finally caught up with his girlfriend Sarah Fogg, After searching for her in Africa, after a frantic text from Sarah brought him there, he finally finds her coming out of a mysterious cave. I could feel that embrace down to my soul. I guess I am a hopeless romantic.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I could have listened to this in one sitting easily, if I only had the time. But truth be told, immediately after finishing listening to Book 1, I downloaded the next Callsign King Book 2- The Underworld to get more of Robinson, Ellis and Kafer, bringing one of my favorite characters to life.
Any additional comments?
Jeremy Robinson, along with Sean Ellis, take you on anothor thrilling adventure, where King, once again saves humanity from the bad guys. In this novella we find Jack and his girlfriend Sarah Fogg get entangled in the usual trouble. This time in Ethiopia where a strange virus and archeological find May be linked. From T Great Rift Valley, the good and bad guys are fighting over an Elephant Graveyard, but is ivory all they are looking for?
