Story
Refuge, New Hampshire, is a small town. The kind found on postcards. Their biggest concern is the rowdy summertime revelers making their way up from Massachusetts and New York. And with most of the town's residents in neighboring Ashland, for the Fourth of July fireworks show, Refuge is quieter than usual. That is, until the Baptist church's bell starts ringing - on its own. The bell chimes faster and faster, reaching a frenetic pace, as though rung by the Devil himself. But the bell is just the beginning.

Freeman is a genius with an uncommon mixture of memory, intelligence, and creativity. He lives in a worldwide utopia, but it was not always so. Change seemed near, but the Masters refused to bend. Instead, they declared war. And lost. Now, the freed world is threatened by a virus, spread through bites, sweeping through the population. Those infected change - they are propelled to violence, driven to disperse the virus.

Publisher's Summary
Still recovering from the tragic loss of a good friend, Jack Sigler, callsign: King, leads the Chess Team - a crew of former Delta operators - back into action. But what should be a routine snatch-and-grab to capture a drug cartel leader escalates out of control, throwing the team into a challenge unlike anything they've ever faced. An enemy from their past, who is close to unmasking their identities, joins forces with the psychotic cartel kingpin, setting a trap that will shake the team to its foundations.
While the team battles enemies old and new, King's fiancée, CDC disease detective Sara Fogg, struggles to stop a strange outbreak that transforms the infected into ravenous, inhuman monsters. Once responsible for the disappearance of the Roanoke settlers, the disease now threatens to spread across the planet, ending human civilization in a bloodbath of violence.
Hunted by humans and monsters alike, King and the Chess Team face a desperate choice - sacrifice themselves or let the world bleed.

It's EDEN-ton.... not Ed-enton
A sci-fi adventure based in The Outer Banks involving The Lost Colony. Never heard of such but it's a fine Chess Team adventure.
If you are a fan of elite spec ops teams "off-the-grid" saving the world then you'll enjoy Jeremy Robinson's Chess Team series. I am and I do.
But tell the narrator its Eden-ton not Ed-enton. :-(

Excellent Adventure
Any additional comments?
What a wild ride - I loved every minute of it! This was such an intense story, although there were parts that made me question my eating choices going forward. I have read these books out of order, so this is only my third Chess Team book. I am going back to the beginning and reading the rest as soon as I can. I love the non-stop action in this series.

Ok listen. Some spoilers ahead
Largely the story was intriguing. But at the end, I find it difficult to believe that such a group would opt to go off grid and on the run. Even if they stayed working for the government (like that had been in earlier books), they would have access to supplies, resources, money, health insurance, etc. Conceptually, I don’t think real people in that same situation would choose to willingly go on the run. I understand there’s a lot of fantastical things in the books, but I find this concept unbelievable.

Very Good
Neat little story. Granted, some aspects have been used in plots by other writers. Still, this one is different enough to hold my interest. Some plot devices seem to have been thrown together to bring us to a point later in the story. Still, I enjoyed it.

not my favorite one
This novel was more like a story for early start of a series and really felt away just to get rid of annoying adversary and to bring the forwshadowing of the bext top villain in series. I also didn't get the same frill of learning historical facts like in your other novels this just felt luckiest at best in that regard

A past horror is back for King!
The Chess Team are back and being hunted by a corrupt congress man, hoping to be president. Meanwhile people are turning into monsters, King was there the first time and now is back in the thick of it. As usual a very entertaining book from Jeremy Robinson.
Jeffrey Kafer again delivers a polished performance, have listened to a few Chess Team and other books read by him and they always deliver a good listening experience.

What did you like most about Cannibal?
The fact that I had another chance to enjoy the series. Just wholesome violence for a good cause.
What did you like best about this story?
I can't say as it would spoil the book. Sorry chaps
*So many shocks and surprises!.
Have you listened to any of Jeffrey Kafer’s other performances? How does this one compare?
He is a 'Audible God'
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I was screaming 'Nooooo' and 'I hope you have a painful death' a lot.
Any additional comments?
Found by chance, as I wasn't expecting the next book in the series to be out (thought he'd finished with Chess Team). Listened to the book in one day. I did not want it to end.

this is by far the worst book in the series so far...it escalated stupidly then all of a sudden it was over...im not going to bother with the next book...with Jacks sister coming back from the dead...thats just too past far fetched even for this top fan 🤔
