Publisher's Summary

A quiet living, slice-of-life LitRPG about farming.

The chance of a lifetime started with a gift. An inheritance of the Old Farmstead outside of the town of Summer Shandy. It’s overgrown, overrun, and filled with field monsters and in a bad need of a tilling. But it’s something, it’s a start, and for Jason Hunter, that’s all he needs.

And all his uncle wanted for him. A new start.

But farm life doesn’t come easy, as Jason will learn. With a mountain of chores that range from monster extermination to watering crops, Jason will need to learn to manage his stamina, build up his endurance, and maintain a social life if he’s going to live the quiet life in the country.

Get a copy of this nostalgic coziness and set off on a warm adventure!

interesting story but dumb characters

I like the story, but plot by misunderstandings is just lazy writing and the support characters are practically worse and less likeable than the villains.

Sensational Slice of Life Story

I listen to alot of high octane stories and sometimes I just want to chill and relax to a good slice of life audiobook. This one fits that bill perfectly. The story is wonderful and the narration is amazing. I had fun from start to finish. Don't hesitate.

A fun slice-of-life farming LitRPG

Jason has received a farmstead as an inheritance, and he is determined to make it work. What he doesn't know is just how much work getting the farmstead working is going to take. As he works to get the farmstead up and running, he also starts making connections and building relationships with other residents of the town. But not everyone is feeling friendly, and there are those who don't care what happens to the residents and the town so long as they get the payout they feel is their due.

This is a slice-of-life LitRPG with a farming focus. At the beginning of each chapter was an update of sorts, some of which was repetitive and some of which was new information; initially, it was annoying because of its repetitiveness, but after a few chapters, I found that it was one of my favorite parts.

I definitely liked the different characters we were introduced to in this opening book of the series. Despite the fact that Jason is the main character, my favorite character ended up being Tess. She is quite the firecracker who loves her town and wants to make sure it remains protected. At the same time, she has terrible interpersonal skills and even goes so far as to have men fill out applications for the position of her boyfriend. Of the other characters, some were certainly more developed than others, though there were several that had certain characteristics that were played up for narrative effect.

Listening to the audiobook, narrated by Ashlinn Romagnoli, was fun. This was the first audiobook narrated by her that I have listened to and thought she did a good job. Though she didn't do different voices for the various characters, she did add to the story with the emotion she put into the narration. I look forward to listening to her narrate the sequel to this novel.

decent book recording is poor and the mc cant seem to catch a break with the relationships till the end that comes off as a bit forced for the story

Love this book and all others by this author

I didn’t think this would match Mana Harvest for me but it did. Highly recommend for the LitRPG farming crowd out there.

Stardew Valley Style LitRPG

A fun slice of life LitRPG reminiscent of Stardew Valley, with a great narrator! The story felt very cozy, which was exactly what I was looking for.

Relationships straight out of middle school

Voice actor does a great job

No detailed world building or any in depth background into ANYTHING
No deep dives into characters (including the MC)
Nothing explaining the larger world

I understand this is supposed to be an extremely slowed down sice of life style story... and I really enjoy those!
...but this story has almost nothing in it and nothing about the world explained

basic : they have magic AND guns???? not a single explanation to be seen

Never been a fan of main characters that are all reactive and have no ability to set their own course.

Main character doesn't have much of a point of view, just goes from one mini quest to the next

No real goals...

Non-love story of a bitchboy... fun stuff

Most all of the interpersonal relationships are at a middle school or early high school level.

Seems like everyone is supposed to be grown but much of the back and forth dynamics are those of ppl who have never had life experiences

This should really be labeled as YA and I still have zero clue why they chose that cover for the story...

Seriously struggled to finish (skipped quite a few incredibly infantile conversations)

This story just sucks
