Publisher's Summary

Lacy Marie Crocker's whimsical pet couture has gained a following in New Orleans' cozy Garden District, and word of mouth has traveled all the way to her favorite fashion designer, Annie Lane. Lacy is thrilled when Annie schedules a private session at her home to discuss a companion line for her evening wear, but when Lacy arrives for the appointment, she enters the kitchen to two mewling Siamese cats - and one very dead Annie.

Lacy takes the kittens home to care for them until they can be properly claimed by Annie's family or friends, but after a busy day of work, she returns home to find them missing. And when Lacy learns the cats are set to inherit Annie's fortune, she begins to wonder if the killer was after the kittens all along. Now Lacy will stop at nothing to save the Siamese and find justice for Annie - if the killer doesn't sink his claws into her first.

Luckily, Lacy has the help of handsome NOLA PD Homicide Detective Jack Oliver to help her catch the cat-napper before it's too late in Cat Got Your Cash, the endearing second Kitty Couture mystery from Julie Chase.

Still a cute listen!

Being second in the series, it's always the make or break book for me. The first book may be great but that doesn't mean you've got another one in you LOL

But again, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the characters. I'm so glad the same narrator is used throughout because she is just awesome sauce! I'm definitely ready to listen to the third book!!

Fun, light-hearted mysteries

The pet stuff xan be a little silly but that just enhances the light-hearted mood of these fun little mysteries. I am going to listen to the next one right now. The narration is great. The southern belles really do sound like rich, society matron. Kudos to the narrator.

humorous and engaging

This is the second book in the Kitty Couture Mystery series. I read the third and fourth book and thought I’d try the first two. I like the covers to the book sin this series. They are colorful with a lot of fun and whimsy.

Our protagonist, Lacy Marie Crocker comes from a wealthy family but has been away from NOLA for approximately 10 years trying to make it on her own. She is back and has a pet couture and bakery shop.

Her mother thinks she should find someone and settle down. Her choice is Chase Hawthorne but her heart leans toward Detective Jack Oliver.

I liked all the suspects, possible motives for murder, and the reveal was not expected until near the end of the story.
I was lucky enough to listen to this on Audible. Looking forward to book 1.

it's still a cute series

Overall: I definitely enjoyed the first one better. Lacy got a bit over the top in this one and at times was annoying. But overall I'm still interested in what happens next.
Performance: The narrator's accent didn't seem as strong in this one as it did in the first. Her accent adds to the story.
Story: The story strayed from what seemed rational, Lacy got away with way too much. That said I still wanted to know how it would all play out. Are they going to catch the bad guys and if so how. I found the minor story lines to be the most captivating, what's next for Furry Godmother, llama mamas vs jazzy chicks... It's fun and light hearted even at times when it gets far fetched.

Fun, and interesting take in a cozy mystery

I enjoy the stories very much. The fun dialogue, interesting NOLA cultural bits and pieces, solid character development. I dislike the way the main character and her mom dismiss voodoun culture. They way they talk about it seems fearful and so disrespectful towards the main nurturing presence in their lives—Imogene (spelling?). She looks out for them, cares about them and they dismiss her; their attitudes shine a poor light on themselves. I like to feel as if they really see her and respect her, so why does the author make their characters appear shallow, fearful? That’s so passé. It makes me wonder if the author is racist, honestly. And that thought makes me feel very disappointed, sad, and angry too. Then it leads me to the thought that maybe if they are that, then I won’t read these books anymore. Unless the author is making this into a plot twist where they have a spiritual and humanitarian awakening? I’ll give the author another chance to redeem herself and see about reading/listening to the next book.

I couldn't stay hooked

There was nothing specifically stood out as unlikable for me, but I honestly had to fight to stay awake and get through this book! Maybe it's a positive review of the narrator's soothing voice, I just don't know. Because I fought my way to the end, I am rating it poorly, but again there wasn't anything specific about the story that I didn't like or truly dislike, other than the fact that it felt like a "have to" chore when I knew i had to listen to more before bookclub.

Obsessed with this series

I really liked this book, I enjoyed the face Lacy was going to work with her idol. The mystery gave you lots of great twists and turns. I adore Jack Oliver, he is a great detective. I love that this series, the police aren't dumb or incompetent. I had an idea who the killer was, but I second guessed myself so many times it was so fun. This was a great book to curl up to. It's funny and you fall in love with all the characters.

Crime, romance, danger, southern hospitality, Llama Mommas, Jazzy Chicks and a cat riding a roomba!

Great Narration

This is my second book of Kitty Couture.
These stories are light and I enjoy the setting of New Orleans. However, in this one, Lacey needs to “chill out”. Too much being knocked about.

Hooked

Author and narrator par excellence! There can’t be too many of these Kitty Couture books. Listening to Ms Pressley’s magical voice is delightful and Ms Chase’s colorful humor coupled with a flair for creating suspense is perfect.

Occasional grammar errors and a little necessity to suspend reality in this one’s conclusion but no matter. It’s candy to a baby listening and we want more please.

really enjoyable story

this second book is just as good as the first, I look forward to listening to these books whilst pottering about the house/garden, the mystery aspect and drama that ensues are very entertaining, and the love triangle is also another bit of interest because you really don't know who she's going to end up with, I still don't know at the end of this book, which is unusual as both are likeable characters

DNF: TOO STUPID FOR ME

The blurb states that the cats are taken. It fails to state that she DELIBERATELY FAILED to arm her security alarm, despite seeing a suspicious prowler the night before!

All this after having a ‘typical dumb blonde’ moment whilst entering the deceased’s house.

I have no idea if it improved. I could not bear it any longer…!

Cats in New Orleans

I am enjoying this series but do wish Lacy would choose who she wants to be with, the ex boyfriend or the cop because at times it had me wondering if I was listening to a mystery or a romance. Having said that I don't know who I am routing for, both seem likeable and obviously care for her, it kind of reminds me of the love triangle in Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series but set in New Orleans. There is two mysteries in this book, the first one gets solved nicely and the second mystery (of proving who killed the police detectives grandfather) is set up to either continue into the series or get solved in the next book, so be prepared. The mystery takes you on a number of twist and just when you think it is solved it continues. I had suspected the killer right from the start and then forgot about him, as things developed. What really makes this book so totally different to the other cozy mysteries is the fashion for all the pets, it just boggles the mind. Only in New Orleans but what a fun city and series.
Lacy is going to meet her hero and possibly purpose a joint fashion adventure, with Annie designing clothes and Lacy matching clothes for fashion conscious let owners. The problem is Lacy finds Annie dead and the only witness is her two Siamese cats. With no body to take them and unwilling to let animal control take them Lacy volunteers. When somebody breaks into her apartment and steals them, she wonders if they were the reason Annie was dead. Can Lacy keep the cats safe and find a killer? After a second break in and a man stalking her in a cat mask, Lacy puts down her glitter to get to the bottom of things before she becomes the next victim. At the same time her mother still wants her to come up with a prize winning costumes for her chickens to win a bet and the hunky detective turns to Lacy for help when he uncovers some startling news about his grandfather's death.
I liked the narrator. She used her voice well to give a subtle accent to a number of the characters.

Another sweet read

Just like the first book, this one is another sweet read, nice to follow and while a “murder mystery” it is not very dramatic and full on so i found it easy to relax to. Highly recommend it!

love these books ❤️

Although I didn't think this story was as good as the first l still enjoyed it. l love Jack. He is my favourite, but not sure what is going on with Chase? Nicely written. lt has a bit of a Miss Fishers Murders vibe about it.
