John Grisham is the acknowledged master of the legal thriller. In his first collection of novellas, law is a common thread, but America’s favorite storyteller has several surprises in store. “Homecoming” takes us back to Ford County. Jake Brigance is back, but he’s not in the courtroom. In “Strawberry Moon,” we meet Cody Wallace, a young death row inmate only three hours away from execution. The “Sparring Partners” are the Malloy brothers, Kirk and Rusty, two young lawyers who inherited a once prosperous firm when its founder, their father, was sent to prison.

"If Robert Littell didn't invent the American spy novel," says Tom Clancy, "he should have." In this spectacular Cold-War-as-Alice-in-Wonderland epic, Littell, "the American le Carre," takes us down the rabbit hole and into the labyrinthine world of espionage that has been the CIA for the last half-century. "Ostensibly a single novel, The Company can also be listened to as an anthology of cracking good spy stories," says ( Publishers Weekly).

Not even close to DeMille's other books
Boring, but at least it was read by Scott Brick! If you're a DeMille fan you'll be very disappointed in this book. I stuck with it thinking it would get good at some point, but no such luck!

Cathedral is a nail biter!
Where does Cathedral rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
So far I have to say this is one of the better Nelson DeMille books I have read. I am an over the road truck driver who drives nights, this book kept me going! I did not want to even pause it to stop for a break!
Scott Brick does a great job narrating this book. I feel like he brings the characters alive!

Good Story - Very Long
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this book to a friend.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The most interesting part of the story was the history of the Cathedral as well as the dynamics between political groups and specific people. The main characters were interesting and wanting to know what happens to them keeps the listener going. There are a lot of characters. Generally I have no trouble keeping track of the characters and what their roles are. There were several times I mixed up whether a person was one of the terrorists or one of the policemen. This book is also very long when it doesn't need to be. There were a few times I zoned out and it did not detract from my ability to follow the story. That tells me it could have been written with a little less detail without losing anything. The end has enough twists that it is worth sticking with the story through to the end.
What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Scott Brick adds excellent accents to the reading. He also has a great ability to bring the characters to life. You almost feel like you know them as living people rather than just words on a page.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
This was not a book I wanted to listen to all in one sitting. After awhile, my thoughts would wander. However, I always wanted to come back to it and find out what happened. My favorite characters were Maureen, Flynn, and Burke.

Outstanding early DeMille stand alone novel
Published in 1981 Cathedral was not Nelson DeMille first novel but it is the first that began his rise to stardom as an author of suspense thrillers. On St.Patrick's Day in New York City IRA leader Bryan Flynn, seizes St Patrick's Cathedral, takes many hostages, and booby traps the church with explosives. As the police and others seek to recapture the building without killing the hostages and destroying the building the suspense builds and builds. In this 2009 audio version of the novel Scott Brick narrates to perfection. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

With a history so young as the US plus all of its diversity makes an ordinary American have trouble imagining the hurt and the hate tat goes on for generations. This story puts light on such individuals who cannot and will not come to terms with the past.
