Story
Boudica, second daughter of a Celtic king, has little concern for tribal tensions and political intrigues. Called by the gods and the stirrings of her own wild heart, she listens instead to whispers of the oaks. But Boudica would be wiser to heed the warning cries of eagles. Rumors abound that the Romans are amassing forces for another invasion. In an effort to consolidate power, Boudica’s father turns to Prasutagus, the formidable ruler of the Greater Iceni. To win Prasutagus’s aid, Boudica’s father must strike a bargain - a deal with implications beyond Boudica’s imagining.

Publisher's Summary
Ninth-century Saxon England crumbles under the onslaught of a relentless foe - the Danish Vikings. Ceridwen, a young woman with divided loyalties, watches as the peace and plenty she enjoys at the Saxon stronghold of Kilton gives way to wary watchfulness. Her dearest friend, Ælfwyn, sold in marriage to a Dane in a desperate bid for peace, travels to Kilton and recounts the events that befell the fortress of Four Stones in captured Lindisse. But Ceridwen is also confronted by Sidroc, the Dane she ran from, and cannot forget. Ceridwen's life revolves around her beloved husband Gyric, rendered now unfit for battle and seemingly, for happiness. At the heart of Kilton is Gyric's brother Godwin, the young lord who struggles both against the Danish invaders and an unthinkable desire. Growing tensions between the brothers mirror the escalating threat to the Saxons from the Danes. The fate of all at Kilton hangs in the balance at a single terrifying battle.
Meticulously researched and thrillingly brought to life, here is Ceridwen of Kilton, book two of the historical adventure The Circle of Ceridwen Saga.

Addictive #2
I have enjoyed the Ceridwen books -- 4 so far, and find them addictive. They are set in the 9th Century and are full of memorable characters. I have not researched whether the settings, tools, and environments are accurate, but they certainly seem so--and I am always intrigued to learn how LOW tech societies worked. The people in Ceridwen's life, and she herself, often push the boundaries of their societal roles, but not in ways that seem unbelievable. So as a dedicated "Outlander" fan, I can recommend these to you, though in comparison, the Ceridwen books do not have actual known historical events that strongly influence the plot. Randolf writes less history and less sexual detail (the descriptions are relatively restrained), but delightful books nevertheless.

The Crumbling of 9th-Century Saxon England!
What made the experience of listening to Ceridwen of Kilton the most enjoyable?
As in Book 1, seeing how the protagonist, Ceridwen of Kilton, navigates her way in and out of challenging and dangerous situations.
What did you like best about this story?
The surprising gift Ceridwen and Gyric bestowed upon Godwyn (Gyric's brother) and Edyth (Godwyn's wife & Ceridwen & Gyric's sister-in-law) at the end of the book!
What about Nano Nagle’s performance did you like?
Nano Nagle grew to be even more comfortable with the characters in this book. She seemed to have more fun with them.
Who was the most memorable character of Ceridwen of Kilton and why?
Again, as in Book 1, I'd have to say the protagonist, Ceridwen of Kilton! Ceridwen's character creatively navigates its way through the many challenges and surprising situations expertly sprinkled throughout the story. This behavior and growth gains her the love and respect of her husband, Gyric, and the many men and women they encounter in their life.
Any additional comments?
If you thought that Ceridwen and Gyric could rest on their laurels a bit after facing the many challenges they encountered in Book 1, The Circle of Ceridwen, while trying to safely arrive at the Saxon Stronghold of Kilton, you're in for many new surprises in Book 2, Ceridwen of Kilton! I found Gyric's dark mood throughout frustrating, many times I just wanted to take hold of him and shake him! The author, Octavia Randolph, masterfully weaves us through some twists and turns that add a depth of interest that further ingratiates the listener to the story!

When the author forgets who her character is...
I bought the first book in this series during a sale. I listen while I paint, and the first book was just so easy and enjoyable to listen to that it was over too quick! So I got this one. I’m really annoyed at the author, there is a section in the book that is so incredibly unbelievable that the author must think her audience is stupid. The only other explanation is that it was written for pure titillation, which is so cheap. Ceridwen from the start has been an intelligent and wise character. She loves and cares for her blind husband fiercely... defending him, aiding him and worrying about his happiness.
It’s absolutely believable that a woman could have her head turned by the brother who looks just like her husband but who isn’t angry, depressed, or defeated! It’s believable that she could have an affair with said brother... it’s believable that she does so only with the consent and knowledge of her husband. What is totally UNBELIEVABLE is that they should carry out that lusty affairs several times while her husband is in bed with them??! Are you serious??! What kind of cold hearted bitch do you have to be to submit your beloved husband to that kind of torture? He’s already totally depressed and you think that’s going to make life rosy for him? And does the author know men (we’re not talking modern men who’ve been socialized to deny their testosterone) at all? Guyrich already feels emasculated because he isn’t fit for a man’s work... really? He’s going to be okay with this??
I doubt the author is stupid, she’s obviously done a lot of research on the history of this period... so she did this to titillate.
I was going to purchase the whole series, but I’m sure there’s mire of this tripe ahead... so I’m bowing out. It’s a shame, I really enjoyed this.

LOVE OUTLANDER? RANDOLPH JUST AS GOOD!!!!
Would you consider the audio edition of Ceridwen of Kilton to be better than the print version?
For those of you who have been trying to find a story as well written as OUTLANDER, here it is!!! This series is set in the 800s and is fully described so as to put you there. Each of the characters are well-described and their personalities made known. While the books are not as long as Diana Gabaldon's OUTLANDER, they are just as historically accurate and Octavia Randolph seems to write one a year, which keeps you waiting not as long...a real plus in my opinion. There is no time travel, but gives the reader an accurate sense of how peoples of the varying nations moved from land-to-land, settling, intermingling, inter-marrying to educate the reader on where we came from... This is a high-quality, well-narrated series that, if you enjoy reading about the Danes, will keep you "in the story". It will only be a matter of time before Hollywood gets its hands on it! : )

This was all that it promised.
These book have taken up much of my time, which means there are good. After watching Vikings, GOT and Outlander I was luck to come across such a find, thankyou.

Love the story but narration is irritating
I am enjoying this series and love the genre but the narration is just wrong. This voice actor has a lovely voice but she seems to put the wrong emotion to heated scenes.
