Good, But Not What I Expected Based On The Title
I liked this book, although it wasn't what I expected based on the title. It is part dog psychology, part dog training suggestions, part memoir, and (a very small) part marketing for his new show.
I think that this book would be useful for someone new to owning a dog or someone with specific dog behavior issues. I was looking for more general information as to training for specific commands, leash walking, etc. While some of this was covered, I would have liked more detail as to the nuts and bolts of how to do it rather than the theory.
While I may not agree with his approach on everything, I did get a few tidbits out of the book. I never watched his show before, so I didn't know much about him, so the glimpse into his personal life was also interesting to me. The narration was solid.

Great read for the dog enthusiast.
I just love reading Cesar Millans books. I can see how some material may be deemed controversial but when put in context of the big picture and a true understanding that what he believes is in the best interest of the dog - it makes perfect sense. Can see changes already in our dog and his books are making an immense difference in the lives of our family and that of our new puppy.

learned a lot, but...
The narrator did a really good job, and the book was very good. I feel like I learned a lot about how to handle certain behaviors with my dog. She is very smart, but has a lot of pent-up energy because I don't exercise her enough, and while a part of me always knew that was part of the problem I now have a better understanding of it.
I give the story of 3 because of the very last chapter I don't want to give anything away butt maybe that information could have been placed somewhere in the middle of the book, it would have been nice too end it on a more positive note.

Just Wonderful He's An Inspiration
What a great and practical book, not had a puppy for 15 years so this was an interesting and thoughtful insight into my puppies head. So much information and basically teaching us that they are all pack animals and we hopefully become a responsible, strong & caring pack leader. Basic training starts young and should continue. The book also looks at Cesar's past and difficult beginnings, his own personal story warts & all and how he became "The Dog Whisperer". The narration was perfect this is an inspirational book and not just for dogs.

Cesar is self trained, not science based
I went through many books, dog trainers and behaviourists to help my reactive dog.
What Cesar is doing is dominating the dog into submission. Isn't better when your dog chooses to make the right choice by teaching him how to do? Of course that takes time and effort.
Science behind dog's behaviour proves his method wrong and outdated.
If you want a loving relationship with your dog than you must respect him/her and their boundaries.
