Good Content - Poor Narration
I know a lot about fitness, and nutrition and this course does a good job covering a lot of info. Yes, If you know a lot about this topic, then you are going to hear things you already know. Overall I did like the course organization. It was mostly review/reinforcement for me, but I did pick up a few things. I enjoyed the material. It was time well spent learning.
The narration was very difficult for me. The author of the course reads his course notes - almost written like a book. He reads very poorly. TGC should have chosen a professional narrator. He stumbles over his words, and misreads most sentences. Again, he just reads aloud very poorly.

Basic Knowledge
I was expecting more up to date research analysis. Ideally it would have included a major overhaul of these elementary concepts in light of breakthroughs of the genetic factors influencing body composition. I can not recall a single reference to even solid genetic research now ten years old.
It did offer basic nutrition information, good discussion of special senior requirements and a now standard review of metabolic function.

Not sure about this, seems to not say much
Actually I did listen, and more than once. But he dosent give any concrete informations. And in the few instances he does, I simply do not trust what he says. Because it contradicts a lot of information from most of the other nutritionalists.
So for example
1) he seems to suggest that a high protein diet is good. But that is not what ive heard elsewhere, most people say that a high protein diet is bad for you, causing more harm than good. And that we eat far too much protein in our diets already.
Also we know animal protein is causing a lot of problems in the world with regards land usage and emissions and obsesity.
2) He also said that you can eat throughout the day. But a lot of people are saying that it is better to fast for much of the day. Being hungry for long periods of time allows the body to repair. But he dosent talk about this very much at all.
3) You can eat at night, just before sleeping? - Well everyone knows this isnt true, even my 11 year old neice knows that you shouldnt eat late at night. This means that we cant trust the other things that were said either, because if someone says this then how can you trust them on their other assertions? So on this basis im writing a bad review.

Disapointing
I had expected more from a university level course; I have previously done some reading around the topic and to be honest; most of that was far more in depth than this. It feels very cluttered with GCSE Biology and low level information. It feels like it could have been broken into maybe 3 more in depth courses; one for beginners, another intermediate and another for more advanced interests, which was what I had been anticipating based upon previous courses. In summary; a lot of listening for a few useful nuggets of information.

Insightful, educational and unbiased
Unlike most books in the same field, this one took a neutral position towards things like different types of diets.. Etc. Its focusing on the science of nutrition and exercise and backed with research data it provides information and practical advise for the general audience. It's very hard to choose the right way based on your own goals given the variations today, what I liked about this book is that it explains the whys and the hows to help choosing what works for me and what not. Highly recommended.

Factual & Enjoyable Series
This is a well structured, enjoyable series of lectures on basically everything you didn't know about how the body works with a heavy bias towards nutrition, health, fitness & weight loss.
The only bad thing I can say is the repetitive health guidance warnings at the end of each chapter are annoying. Hit the 30 sec fast forward for those.

Don’t let your first step be a misstep.
For anyone that is looking to understand your body, and how the foods you eat and the way you exercise affect how you look and feel, this book is simply fantastic, and will assist in guiding you to make correct decisions for your health.
Personally, this year, I’ve made great improvements in my body composition by reducing excess fat and adding some lean muscle mass, but it had come at the cost of my overall energy and satisfaction/happiness. At first, I thought, ‘the longer I do this, the more my body will adjust, and the better I look, the happier I’ll feel’. This is a dangerous approach to new diets and exercise plans that most people go through; it’s ineffective and causes these plans to be temporary, and as a result, pointless. Ormsbee demonstrates that you can make great improvements in your health and fitness goals, while feeling progressively better from day 1. He attacks all areas of health from nutrition and exercise, with detailed scientific research to guide you towards the most efficient lifestyle changes you should make, in order to achieve your goals.
Understanding is the best motivation. Making permanent changes for your health is hard work, but you’ll never be able to take those proper steps if you don’t understand what you’re doing.

takes the marketing and hysteria out of nutrition
As a physician I would highly recommend this course. Took me through a nice refresher of physiology to start then built on that to explain energy utilisation under different physiological conditions. Although the recommendations may seem simple, it makes me more motivated and confident to chose the right strategy for me and implement them.

This is what anyone starting a weight loss (body fat loss) journey should listen to for accurate information based on evidence and research. I learnt an incredible amount while listening and it helped me fine tune my goals, both nutritionally and through exercise.

Reader stutters
The speaker stutters pretty often it’s pretty distracting, he also repeats words and says a lot of uh and filler words. Often says the wrong word and then corrects himself. Annoying to listen to.

Expected more from Great Courses
Information was nothing more than findable on a Google search. I feel if you already have a little more than a basic knowledge of the topic in question, you may find yourself underwelmed by the text

Sensible and we'll researched
As another reviewer said before me I honestly learnt so much from this. No gimmicks just research and a balanced opinion. You don't have to follow it but I'm willing to try
