Story
The holidays are upon us, and this year Audible is very happy to present to our members one of Charles Dickens’ most popular Christmas stories, The Cricket on the Hearth. This holiday classic (original subtitle: “A Fairy Tale of Home”) tells the innocent, picturesque, and charming story of a poor family and their would-be guardian angel; in short, a delightful vision of Victorian Christmas. As always, a great story calls for a great voice, so we’ve brought in legendary actor and record-breaking Audie and Grammy award-winning narrator Jim Dale ( The Night Circus). Happy holidays and happy listening!

Publisher's Summary
Six works in one collection!
Influenced by the treatment of the misfortunate poor in London’s mid-Victorian streets, A Christmas Carol recounts the tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, a stingy businessman, who is visited by apparitions who show him the error in his ways and inspire him to be a better person.
The story, written by Charles Dickens, reveals the impact and role that Christmas traditions had in the lifestyles of Londoners at the time based on social and economic status. Ultimately, Scrooge sees how his future will be determined if he chooses to continue down the path of greed and selfishness, and he is persuaded to live his life full of generosity and kindness.
You can travel back through time to the Christmas season during the Victorian era with Charles Dickens’ cast of characters in the Charles Dickens Complete Christmas Collection.
You will stay on the edge of your seat as Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by apparitions from his past, present and future on Christmas Eve in A Christmas Carol, transforming his life forever.
In The Chimes, listen as the bells chime signifying the passage of time.
Consistent with Dicken’s depiction of greed and selfishness, one of the characters in The Cricket on the Hearth ultimately transforms his miserly ways in a show of kindness and empathy.
The Battle of Life takes life’s struggles to a new level in this small-town love story.
Grief and sorrow threaten to consume the protagonist during the Christmas Season in The Haunted Man and the Ghost’s Bargain.
Lastly, the life and moral values of Charles Dickens are revealed and discussed in the original biography The Life of Dickens.
Each of the stories in the collection will warm your heart whether you listen to them during the holiday season or any other time of the year.

Timeless, ageless classics!
I could listen to a Christmas Carol all year long. Dickens poetically discusses the heart and soul of a man and the social and economic issues of the times. Ironically, these characteristics, qualities, and nuances of society have not changed much since Dickens' time. These timeless, ageless classics should remind us of the moral and ethical values that we should have and how we should treat one another.
The narration is excellent and transports the listener back in time.
