An encounter with would-be adventurer Robert Buchan near the mysterious Ever-and-Ever-Prolixity provides the opportunity Charley needs for escape.... So the adventuress is abroad once more, meeting a lost expedition in uncharted forests, solving enigmas and hoping beyond hope to see the people she misses most: her family. Charlie's back!
Charlie Pollard is back and as amazing as ever. This is an absolutely brilliant spinoff from her time as the companion to two of The Doctors. The cast is fantastic, the scripts are intriguing and the sound design is brilliant as always. Big Finish did a great job all around. Can't wait for series 2.

Thank you, Big Finish, for bringing back Charley!
Disclosure: I am an American new to listening to Big Finish productions. I was not aware that Charlotte Pollard was a companion to the Doctor until it was eluded to in the story. This story arch is so good it is able to stand alone without the listener needing to know Chatlotte's back story and, equally important, without being didactic.
India Fisher is truly engaging as Charlotte Pollard. I love that she can have brilliant adventures without the doctor (still love you Doctor!). The Who-niverse is so big and wonderful I look forward to going on more adventures with Charley, and all the other amazing characters that are sure to accompany her. Excellent sci-fi adventuring. Big Finish, keep up the good work!
Now off to find all the episodes where Charlotte was the companion...

Brilliant Doctor Who companion story
Not sure how much sense this will make to anyone meeting Charlotte Pollard (Charley to her friends) for the first time. However she's been my favourite companion since Storm Warning and I've been through most of the audio adventures she features in. The writing here does a great job of keeping the stakes high without imbuing Charley with superhuman abilities. She does what she's always done, and that's why I loved it.

Didn't really float my boat
It's a bit like Hitchhiker's Guide, but without the satire. I liked Matt Fitton's other work, but Charlotte Pollard just didn't do it for me -- I'm not really sure why. The presentation and sound effects are very Hitchhiker-esque, and the plot ideas equally silly. The difference, I guess, is that Douglas Adams used the silliness to satirize the human condition, while here it's just, well, silly.

another triumph for the Edwardian Adventuress
Whether you land in experience with the character from audio adventure veteran to never even seen a doctor who episode (yes it's a spinoff) there is something to love in this story for you. Great stories in all sorts of genres from basic sci-fi to family drama and even a pinch of lovecraftian horror, all tied together by a brilliant performance by India Fisher. Well worth a listen.
