In 2017, a routine network television investigation led to a story only whispered about: one of Hollywood’s most powerful producers was a predator, protected by fear, wealth, and a conspiracy of silence. As Farrow drew closer to the truth, shadowy operatives, from high-priced lawyers to elite war-hardened spies, mounted a secret campaign of intimidation, threatening his career, following his every move, and weaponizing an account of abuse in his own family.

Story
In 2014, Theranos founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes was widely seen as the female Steve Jobs: a brilliant Stanford dropout whose start-up “unicorn” promised to revolutionize the medical industry with a machine that would make blood testing significantly faster and easier. Backed by investors such as Larry Ellison and Tim Draper, Theranos sold shares in a fund-raising round that valued the company at more than $9 billion, putting Holmes’ worth at an estimated $4.7 billion. There was just one problem: The technology didn’t work.

With no mercy and seemingly no motive, the Manson Family followed their leader's every order. Twenty years ago, when journalist Tom O'Neill was reporting a magazine piece about the murders, he worried there was nothing new to say. Nothing new at all
This sounds like a large mea culpa for an author that dropped the ball on a huge story.
It was a boys club, I was a poor pregnant lady, they threatened me…. all probably true but the author doesn’t give her pro active steps to overcome her hurdles.
The ME TOO movement didn’t define women’s rights the Suffragettes did that.
I had HIGH expectations for the much publicized podcast and am sorely disappointed.
This feels like a softball podcast to a VERY hardball subject.

Each episode reveals another layer of this story. The writer discusses another layer of Jeffrey Epstein's complicated life and tries to describe the enigmatic Ghislaine's part in it. Zero new information
That should have been called “a rehash of everything you already know about Jeffrey Epstein”. The stuff about Ghislane is such a small part and there’s absolutely no new information. Plus all of the tapes were lost so everything is reenacted by actors? It would’ve been so much more compelling if you were actually hearing Epstein‘s voice. Total disappointment.

Starts off weak then gets better
As someone who has followed this story from Day 1, I'm committed to listening to the whole series.
That said, less committed listeners might be put off by Vicki's halting "NPR voice" in the beginning, along with the weird noises and semi-human sounds made by the Audible Editor who jumps in occasionally.
Mercifully Vicki starts sounding normal around Episode 3. There IS some new stuff here--like a very detailed explanation of how Epstein stole from his clients and how Ghislaine was dragged back into Jeffrey's orbit once she seemed to make a clean break.

Not about Chasing Ghislaine
It's too bad that instead of focusing on the victims and their stories and quest for justice, Vicky Ward chose to make this podcast all about herself. Though she does come clean and admit that she missed the real story back when she began reporting on Jeffery Epstein, she uses 11 episodes of the listeners time to make excuses for why she didn't get it right - she seems to want us to believe that she is the victim. I was horrified to hear her transcripts and how friendly and charmed she was by Epstein and how she seemed to not want to risk her friendly relationship with Maxwell since they ran in the same social circles. Ward comes off as extremely unlikable and lacking skill as a journalist. It's remarkable how little content in the podcast is about Chasing Ghislaine when that's the title.

An enabler pretends she knew nothing
Vicky Ward’s podcast is a lesson in narcissism. Obsessed with herself & her dealings with Epstein, she’s created a 13 episode podcast about some interviews she did with him in the early 00s. She talks us through these conversations & reveals she knew about rumours of impropriety with young women. And that she, and every person she knew who knew, did nothing about it.
People like Vicky Ward enabled this man, and she now spills the beans in order to cash in on our disgust. Utterly shameful.
Dodgy sources, lost tapes, excruciating ‘conversations’ with her editor to justify why she never did anything with the knowledge she had all create a piece of narcissism unlike anything I think I’ve ever heard.
I thought this series might actually explore Ghislane’s psyche, but no. There’s pretty much nothing on her. The title is a misleading way to try & apologise for the content and pretend this podcast is something it’s not. No one is fooled.

Sorry as interesting as this is. I feel as this is a smokescreen to soften us to Ghislaine before her impending case! If I had her money and connections I’d probably do the same. Fact is there are Myra’s and Rose’s just this one is super rich and comes from a creepy family. Interesting and professional, not much about Ghislaine
This was an enjoyable and well presented series of episodes. It was good at presenting a narrative around why an early nineties Vanity Fair article didn’t lift the lid on Epstein and what a brutish man he actually was. I liked the “behind the scenes” machinations that made the authors task of getting to the truth so difficult, and the power imbalance between being a journalist and a publisher wanting to mitigate risk. I thought perhaps Ghislaine was treated a bit too sympathetically as a woman enthralled/entrapped in the Epstein web. There is no question that Epstein was a true monster, but, if the allegations against Ghislaine are true, her behaviour was also monstrous. I appreciated the emphasis on the powerful men surrounding Epstein who seem to be getting a free pass thanks to the focus on Ghislaine, hope there is a follow-up series at some point.

Brilliant in depth podcast with lots of new info.
Fantastic investigative journalism here. Just shows you that he would have been outed years ago if he wasn't as powerful and good at blackmailing. Epstein was an utter scumbag, so petty and had to win or he would ruin your life if he wasn't going to.
Ghislaine is still a mystery but there's no chance she is innocent. Don't know if she was doing it for the money or loved to please Epstein. Her dad messed her up and he's to blame for a part of this.

Self indulgent and little to nothing about Ghislane
I found this podcast disappointing. The title is misleading. Episodes 4-9 include nothing on Ghislane whatsoever. Given that the author claims to have know her socially I’d expect more about her character, personality, social sway etc. It’s ironic that in a podcast where the author claims to be focusing on the damaging influence of powerful men she manages to mute all the female voices, even her own. You won’t learn anything new if you’ve watched the other recent documentaries.

Interesting Podcast
Thoroughly enjoyed this podcast. A fascinating but horrible story of greed, paedophilia and if you have power, money and influence, you are able to convince your self, you are above the law.
Thank you to the brave reporter and audio for an insight into the true story of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.

Excellent
Such a well put together doco. So impressed with Vicki Ward and her exceptional reporting and narrating skills. Very well produced. A brilliant (free!) listen. I just have a tiny little gripe.. Americans may say 'off of" for 'off' but it doesn't mean the rest of the world must follow suit as it's pointless and sounds bizarre with an English accent.

Fascinating and thorough
Great podcast but it was 70% Epstein and I wanted something focused more on Ghislaine. Finished it in 1 day while on a road trip though. Vicky really worked hard on it. The research and analysis were incredibly in depth

A must listen-to
What this podcast has done for me is to go beyond what one hears on 'the news'. The so-called rich & famous are tainted enough to make one realise that this world is in, and will continue to be in, a massive mess. God help us all!!

Intriguing and well narrated
I really enjoyed the series well written and presented, every episode was entertaining. Its an intreaguing story. The tile is slightly missleading as I would say the story is 70% about Jeffery Epstein abd touches on Ghislains invilvement almost sympathetically, almost leaving the listener with the impression that she is a victim. Vicky Ward should do more of these or even just narration, great voice to listen to, and came over quite sincere in here involvement even when things did not go her way.
