Publisher's Summary

For fans of best-selling WWII fiction comes a powerful novel from Lynn Austin about three women whose lives are instantly changed when the Nazis invade the neutral Netherlands, forcing each into a complicated dance of choice and consequence.

Lena is a wife and mother who farms alongside her husband in the tranquil countryside. Her faith has always been her compass, but can she remain steadfast when the questions grow increasingly complex and the answers could mean the difference between life and death?

Lena’s daughter, Ans, has recently moved to the bustling city of Leiden, filled with romantic notions of a new job and a young Dutch police officer. But when she is drawn into Resistance work, her idealism collides with the dangerous reality that comes with fighting the enemy.

Miriam is a young Jewish violinist who immigrated for the safety she thought Holland would offer. She finds love in her new country, but as her family settles in Leiden, the events that follow will test them in ways she could never have imagined.

The Nazi invasion propels these women onto paths that cross in unexpected, sometimes-heartbreaking ways. Yet the story that unfolds illuminates the surprising endurance of the human spirit and the power of faith and love to carry us through.

Among the Best

Lynn Austin has surely been blessed. Her books are consistently among the best written books in print. Chasing Shadows is no exception. Chasing Shadows takes place in Holland during WWII. I listened to the audio version of the book. Stina Nielsen gave an amazing performance with her narration. I was sorry for this book to end. It's that good.

Amazing narration of a fabulous story!

Kudos to Stina Nielsen who did an amazing job narrating this audiobook edition!! WOW! Her pronunciation of the Dutch words were spot on and that is not an easy task!! This is the first narrator I have encountered that was able to accomplish this. The story was amazing and the spiritual themes woven throughout were so encouraging!! I always love Lynn Austin's books and Nielsen just made this all the more enjoyable!! Highly recommend this book!!

Lovely

This WW2 story could tell the story of the world right now in March of 2022. It’s a lovely story with rich characters and full of faith. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

Gripping- hard to put down

This was a page-turner and also very deep. It would make an excellent book club read—I wish I could discuss it with someone right now! My advice: make this your next read.

Great Story!

I really enjoyed this story and the characters, once I kept them all straight. I didn't mind at all the religious references and thought them inspiring at times of fear. This is my second listen of Austin books and I will be sure to read another WW2 one by her.

A Blessing to Hear!

Lynn Austin is easily becoming one of my favorite authors! The words within the story and the grim history told are so important to remember. Lynn Austin Does an amazing job capturing this momentous era in history from the perspectives of three women. Normally I like to listen to my audiobooks over a few days or even weeks, to really stretch out the story. But I binged this story in one weekend, because I was so captivated by the characters in the story and the workings of God’s love.

Such a blessing to hear this book. Thank you Lynn Austin!

I would give 10 stars if I could

Mrs Austin never fails to make the characters come alive and make me care so much about them . One the best historical fiction of ww2 except these scenarios were played out all over Europe So bittersweet . Great lesson of how hate and greed is so dangerous.
So many people have given what they could to total strangers in need.
These books challenge you to ponder what role you would have played.

A wonderful story of great suffering and joy.

This has been my second read/ listen. I enjoyed it just as much as the first time. The people depicted are both in fear for their lives and questioning where God is in this horror of war and deprivation of liberty yet they learn to trust him as he answers prayers although not in the way they expected. Each character that survives has grown into a person that truly appreciates the bond of love with their fellow man and God teaches them not to hate their enemies…eventually. A truly engaging book.
Jacqui.
