Kate and Scott’s marriage has always been a lot of fun, with alcohol at the heart of it. After all, what’s more entertaining than a good laugh and a large drink…or six? Meet Ellie Cooke. When it comes to all things environmental she’s, well, a bit "green". It’s not that she doesn’t care about things like climate change and plastic pollution, it’s just that life has always got in the way of that sort of thing. But when the PR firm Ellie works for is taken over by keen environmentalist Nolan Reece, it’s clear that if she wants to save her job, she’s going to have to get serious about being green - or face being recycled.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

A HEARTWARMING AND DELICIOUS ROM/COM
- By CAROLYN 🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹 on 10-24-17
By: Penelope Ward, and others
Publisher's Summary
What do you do when the doctor says you could die at any moment? Well...after you’ve made a cup of tea, of course.
Nathan James is young, successful and has the world at his feet. Unfortunately, he’s also about to die - which ruins things somewhat. And now he’s staring imminent death in the face, Nathan is having to rethink some of his life choices very hard.
This means embarking on a hectic journey of self-discovery that includes, amongst other things, losing his dignity to an inescapable bean bag, suffering screaming nightmares about a monstrous potato, and getting up close and very personal with a bipolar donkey.
All of which is fine, but then Nathan falls in love with a charming girl called Alison, which is a really stupid thing to do. Because how can you give your heart to someone when it might be about to stop?
From Nick Spalding, the bestselling author of Fat Chance, Bricking It and Mad Love, comes a comedy about dying - which is easy - and living, which is most certainly not.

I love Nick Spalding!
I've listened to a few Nick Spalding books and I am absolutely crushing on him. He is such a great writer!!! Spalding creates wonderful characters and puts them in situations where the absolute human comes out and he does so with comedic genius.
Nathan James is dying. That's not really a subject to take lightly but in the hands of Spalding, that is exactly what happened. And it was perfection!!! I even liked the ending.
As well-written as the book is, the narrator put it over the top! He was just too good.

I literally was LAUGHING OUT LOUD‼️
I knew right away I was going to love “Checking Out” because I’ve read & listened to ALL of Nick Spalding books. Sure I’m British too, so it helps with the ‘British Humor’ too. Yes it’s sad because it’s about our heroic character that has been diagnosed with a tumor in his brain, but he doesn’t just want to sit around and feel like he’s disappearing before his own eyes. He wants to do things, adventures, 😂😂😂 sex on bean bags😂😂😂, and the best line that I actually quoted in twitter was “I’m being molested by an Orange creature with a personality disorder. Now I know what it feels like to be a woman locked in a room with Donald Trump.”! OMG😂😂😂😂👏👏👏👏
I was listening in bed with my ear plugs and my husband thought I was laughing in my sleep! I actually had to stifle laughing in so many chapters!! It’s just that kind of book!
Of course there are sad parts, but Nick just makes dying that will happen to all of us one day, another day of exciting happenings. I loved it!!
Please read/listen...you will never laugh so hard! And if you don’t laugh at a grief counselors ‘name’ you have no sense of humor🤣🤣 Recommended for all‼️‼️ 5+++++++stars 💋💋💋💋

Honestly, I really thought I know how this one would end. It surprised me, though! And I’m glad of it! Nathan James takes quite a kidney. Some of it tears at your heart and some makes you laugh out loud. It all went by too quickly for me. I would have liked to connect with Ally a little more, but it was still a great story.

Fresh, Memorable
Nathan Nathan Nathan - a breath of fresh air - a fairly good guy if a bit shallow - Alison - who knew why she was still available - a perceptive, honest sweetheart. You give a guy a who has a terminal diagnosis, a cast of characters called the Foodies and a star performer - and you have a story that is fresh, vivid and extremely engaging. I could not put it down! This narrator Simon Mattacks will be a "go to" for me, especially in a story where Humor is involved! He was the perfect match for Nick's story, and excellent. I give him 7 Stars on this performance! If you want something entirely fresh and thoughtful, think about this book!

great story and left me wanting more
Where does Checking Out rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
its not my favourite nick spalding but i still very much enjoyed it
What did you like best about this story?
it was a great story with lots of unpredictable twists and turns
What does Simon Mattacks bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
his soft tones are a joy with excellent rhythm that made it a very easy listen
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
no, i didn't find it a moving book nor a laugh out loud like some of nicks others but the story didn't lend its self to laugh out loud material,
Any additional comments?
the last chapter disappointing, i was left wanting more, i even think there is a sequel to be had for this story. i want to know more.... what happened next, tell me more about hiss cousin and her family. there was much more that could be explored. It did jump a little in places and a smoother transition would have helped the flow a little better but that is i was being super critical. As i say i did enjoy this book overall.

absolutely brilliant 👏
I always enjoy Nick spaldings books but this one is brilliant! I originally downloaded this title a few months ago and made the assumption that it would be depressing, I was very wrong!
This is an uplifting story of a young man discovering the true meaning of happiness. Each chapter is another exciting and hilarious story of his encounters along his journey with coming to tears with his diagnosis. I would very much recommend this story to anybody who wants something light-hearted and funny but with depth meaning.

What if you received bad news, how would you cope?
This story echoed with the news my friend recently received, so i was absolutely apprehensive, yet curious, to read it.
However,it was funny in a way typical to Nick Spalding's other words, vivid and descriptive, so that i couldn't be helped bursting into laughter. Ultimately it encourages us all to value each day, and appreciate now, and with a good measure of warmth.
