If you've been following popular culture, you know that one of the most popular shows of the last year is The Queen's Gambit, which debuted on Netflix in October of 2020. Adapted from the 1983 novel by Walter Tevis, the stylish miniseries starring Anya Taylor-Joy is about the life of fictional chess prodigy Beth Harmon. Due to the popularity of the show, the gaming industry saw an unprecedented interest in chess; sales of books about chess and chess boards skyrocketed! Whether you are a theory nerd or hungry for a lesson in the game’s history, these chess-related listens are a great opener.

Do not waste your time on this book

After ninety minutes listening to this book waiting for it to improve, I quit and got a refund.

"Garry GM Mate" clearly wrote this in another language. It got translated to English poorly, and had no editing at all. Several long sections are actually repeated, with a few words changed. The presentation flows poorly and the wording verges on the incomprehensible at times. Example: "You must remain confused about your pieces and their growth at no point."

The actual content gives you nothing that other books don't cover far, FAR better, whether it is the history of Chess (try David Shenk), its rules and overall strategies (try Orrin Hudson) or openings (try Nathan Rose).

Looking at all the "five star" reviews, I marveled at how anyone could have such a high opinion of this book - and then realised that they are phrased in a very consistent way, not the sort of diversity you would expect from independent reviewers.

I got my credit back, but I can't get my 90 minutes back.

I loved Chess

Really gave me a good mindset for the game and lots of helpful tips. It was difficult that I had no way that I had no way that I know of viewing the diagrams
