Publisher's Summary

Have you always wondered how the grandmasters learned to play chess so well? This audiobook contains all the advanced methods and strategies you need to learn to start playing like them.

Of course, it's okay to have some doubts. After all, chess doesn’t seem like something you learn from listening to an audiobook. But the truth is, if you don’t learn the theory first, playing the game in real life can be difficult. And that's what this audiobook has been written to solve.

Like everything else, if you don’t start from the basics, becoming a chess master is impossible. Don’t get this audiobook hoping to just memorize moves and patterns. There’s a bit of that in here, but much more than cramming in elaborate strategies that you’re probably not going to use in true life, this audiobook breaks down the advanced concepts of chess. It will teach you how to develop your strategies and make the right moves to dominate and control the game from the opening to the endgame.

Here are a few things you can expect to learn in this 10-section simplified chess manual for beginners:

  • Chess basics including the rules of the game, setting up, and recognizing your chessmen
  • The power of each piece and how to maximize their potential to win games
  • Basics of visualization and how to develop a sense of danger
  • How to gain a material advantage over an opponent
  • The basics of piece development and center control
  • Strategies and tips for different phases of a chess game (chess opening, middle game, and end game)
  • How to keep your king safe and threaten an opponent’s king
  • Maintaining a solid pawn structure

This is an audiobook for beginner chess players so you don’t have to bother with all the complex terms, master lingo, and other stuff you might find boring. It’s everything you need to know about chess in simple and plain language for easy understanding for players at all levels.

Every concept and theme is properly defined so even non-players can master the basics. Even if you’ve never played or won a game of chess in your life, you’ll find the content of this audiobook expository enough to get you started. Advanced players looking to improve their game can learn a thing or two here as well. It’s a quick read that will get you started with a solid foundation of the game and teach you how to play to win, avoid common beginner errors, and build winning strategies that work. If you want to learn to play like a Grandmaster, get this audiobook to get started today!

Amusing mispronunciation of "fork" in Ch 10.

Not a lot of content for the burgeoning chess player in this book, and the concepts are not explained very well.

Great book! Highly recommended!

Definitely a five star winner. I’ve been playing chess for a while and this is the book I was looking for. I wasn’t sure what a book on chess would be like, with not looking at the board, memorizing movies, etc. But this book is based on theory. Highly recommend it for any beginner and even someone who’s been playing for a while will probably pick up some great nuggets here. Great recording, great narrator, great book!!

Learn chess from scratch

The book is very well organized and teaches you all you need to know in simple progressions. It may take more than a single listening before the facts sink in. Once you start playing you may use it for reference and improve as you go on. If you want to learn chess this is a good place to start.

Excellent information

This book is an excellent introduction to the rules, history, and strategies of one of the most popular games in history. Unlike other books, this has a nice feel in writing style and is almost like she is teaching you herself!

Must have

I taught my wife to play chess directly from this book. It followed along exactly how I teach the game. FUNDAMENTALS are plain and simple. It gives you all the tools you need to enter into the world of chess. Right out of the gate my wife is pushing me at times and understands her mistakes.

Satisfied

My grandson likes the set very much. The only thing I would have changed would have been to have a handle on the box. However, he is very satisfied.

Short & Sweet

You will learn very little in the short time this book takes to listen to.
I couldn’t find any diagrams or examples to look at (Audible App is like that for me) so a good option would be to have a Chess Set and try to follow what’s going off.
There’s no way that you will become a Grand Master (GM) in a year of studying and playing let alone after listening to this book.
The game itself has evolved over 1 1/2 centuries and is so difficult to master.
So why bother with this book?
It’s easy to listen to and it’s not going rob you of a long time is the quick answer.
It is after all; short & sweet.
