Excellent in every way.

It wasn't predictable at all, a great, very original story with characters it only took a chapter or two to love and relate to. I related to D and Coolie the most, not just because of that stud life, since I'm masc of center but but not hard - but it was like glimpsing bits of myself back in my early 20s in some of what they felt and experienced, particularly dealing with the expectations of college femmes and the hyper-vigilance around straight men.
Oh, and that scene when Coolie first walks into her dorm room... Could've been taken near outta my 20 y/o life.
It was cool to see Atlanta through their perspective too, having been on and around ATL's extremely diverse black queer scene, but also being familiar with the traditional stud/femme or butch/femme scenes in other areas of the country as well. ATL really is a special place for queer folx in the south. Not to mention a great representation of HBCU life.
Back to the book, it had me laughing, but also really feeling for the characters. I'll definitely keep reading/listening. The narrator did a fantastic job. If your not used to reading/listening to black books, regardless of your race, this might take you a minute to adjust to, because it is unapologetically Black. And all the better for it.

Great ride

The story was pretty formulaic and cliche but the narration is spectacular and the characters a kick in the pants. Would totally have hung out with this group in indergrad. A refreshing and lively jaunt into Back lesbian university culture.

Need more African American LGBTQ

Being apart of the LGBTQ community I appreciate the story, the author and the narrator.

it was good for a free listen.

cute story. not much arc to it as it steeped through the academic year. it seemed a bit anticlimactic as it just ended and set up the next book.

I enjoyed Denise's character and her story. the other were ok. It felt very sophomoric at times and very repetitive. some parts were way over the top outlandish ( like both basketball teams being as good as they were, the amount of violence that took pace with very littlw consequence, and so on...), there were a whole lot of unnecessarily graphic sex scenes...I don't mind details, but after a point, even those get old.

I also had trouble with the narrator. the dialogue was fine. her affect for the characters gave them.life, but the rest pf the story was ready like someone reading an instruction manual. it was very clinical and slow. I had to speed it up to help get through it.

overall, it wasn't so terrible that I stopped listening. I was interested in what happened between Denise and her roommate, but I was disappointed in the end and do not plan to continue with this series.

thrown in your face

There was nothing in the description stating this was a story of homosexuality! Not that there's anything wrong with it, it's just that it's thrown in your face and that's the story! Give a person a warning! I cannot with this book! It's too much!

Great book, Narrator Could Use Improvement

This book should definitely be a tv series or movie. It’s a great book! On the other hand, the narrator did get tripped up on a couple of the characters in various chapters (ie—calling one character that should be a totally different character in the situation) but I got the point.

Real

yes it's rough language and attitude but that's the place it's set, I can't believe some of the reviews.
the girls have all the late teen angst of weight, romance, background, and sexuality. the writing is gritty but perfectly expresses social awareness and life around campus, as such the narrator portrays each character vividly, adding to overall effect.
I laughed, cringed, and cried, totally enjoyed.

Abysmal Awful ...A Never Again

This is THE worst books I have ever attempted to read. Got as far as 5-minutes b4 I had to stop. It's just full of f*** this & f*** that ...
I didn't understand most of the words coming from narrators mouth but they didn't appear to make a story.
Give ALL books by Skyy a wide berth !!😡😡😡😡

Not for me

I listen to audible at night time and I found this book a bit busy with all the characters and the tone a bit aggressive. I quit after a couple of hours as I couldn’t get into it. I’m sure someone else will enjoy it..just not for me.
