Story
Once again, 17-year-old Riley Smith is the new kid in school and her dad's career has her back to being dubbed a freak. Truth is, she's a much bigger freak than her classmates think. The only company she keeps these days is the dead who follow Dad home from work. She can see them. She can speak to them. And Fate seems to think she can help them solve their last problems, so that they can move on to the other side. Which is odd, because with the loss of her mother and her father's alcoholism, she's got enough problems of her own.

Story
There’s only one rule in the world I come from. Keep our existence a secret. Period. The day my sister broke that rule one too many times, I knew there would be consequences. I expected us to be sent to one of those schools for “troubled” kids - and maybe Daizlei Academy was, in a way. But really, it was far more complicated than that. You see, I thought that world had forgotten me. Forgotten us. For years we were left alone, and one day...we weren’t. It was only when I got there that I remembered the second rule: Trust no one.

Love the book, but the narrator is sometimes cringe worthy..
I love young adult books and this series was amazing. One problem. I felt like my ears were bleeding from LISTENING TO THE NARRATOR SWALLOW CONSTANTLY. It LITERALLY made my ears hurt and I contemplated buying the actual book instead of listening. It was disgusting and she does it throughout the ENTIRE book.

If you could sum up Chosen at Nightfall in three words, what would they be?
Romance, Suspense and humor.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Kylie, Della and Miranda make a great combination!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Very emotional book. Made me laugh and cry.
Any additional comments?

Fun book, but narrator needs water!
What made the experience of listening to Chosen at Nightfall the most enjoyable?
This series consistently entertains. The latest entry is no exception. I liked learning more about the chameleon supernaturals,
Who was your favorite character and why?
I've got a soft spot for wolf boy, Lucas
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
Take a sip of water!! Seriously, sometimes iI was cringing. The sound of her swallowing and trying to gather saliva is just gross, and it happens so often, my heating gets extra sensitive to it. If she did it, say, once or twice, I might not even notice. But it just. Gets. Gross. She had this happen on one or two other books in the series (can't remember which), though this may be the worst case. She was fine on the last book.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I like the love triangle; I'm a sucker for that stuff.
Any additional comments?
A big pet peeve of mine in this series is how amazingly often the author describes Kylie's feelings as a sensation happening in her chest or, more often, her heart. Just about everything "pulled on her heart strings" or "swelled up in her chest" or "squeezed her heart," and, oh yeah, her heart whispers to her all the time. It's a really busy heart. I'm amazed the editor or copy editor never pointed this out, the constant repetition of pretty much the exact same metaphor. Though maybe they did, and the author didn't want to listen...

Sure it’s melodramatic. But the best books always are.
If you have mouth noise issues, get the actual book and read it. The editors did the narrator dirty. Every swallow every pause, is included in the audio version.

What did you love best about Chosen at Nightfall?
All of the characters and the introduction to each.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Miranda with all of her flaws as a witch and her deep love for those close to her.

I have no one scene you need all of them to be cohesive.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No

A very disappointing last book to this series
I'm not one to usually write a review on the books I listen to, but this one has been so bad that I've to write something! Ok, the series haven't been outstanding or anything like that. They've been fairly entertaining and I found the original concept of the books to be interesting enough. But, in the last book, the main character goes from mildly annoying to completely and utterly ridiculous. Everyone's attention is focused on this girl who for some unexplained reason is repeatedly told: "you're the only one that matters" and is absolutely adored and defended by everyone around her. It's not like she's some female Harry Potter or Frodo, which I think is what the author is aiming to create, but the plot fails to be relevant enough for this girl to be the savior/protector of the magical, or human, world. Also, I'm sorry, but I fail to see how a 17 year old virgin can possibly know more than her own grown adult teachers about sex and contraception to the point that she is the one everyone goes for advice on this topic and she becomes so weirdly involved in the sex life of all those around her while her own love life is such a joke! I couldn't be bothered to listen to most of this book, I ended up falling asleep, and skipping to the end to know that much at least, but even then was mostly meh!

Love this series
I have this series in paperback and decided to go back to it as a comfort read/listen, something many have done with past reads during various lockdowns I think.
Still enjoyed it years after first reading it. I love the characters and their relationships and I love the gentle flow of the writing too.
I also loved the narrator and I thought her voice perfect for the series. The one thing I will say is that like others her constant swallowing began to grate, particularly in this book. Couldn't someone have gotten her a drink or edited it out?
All in all thought, it was great to go back and experience this series again. Would recommend!

I suppose that I am a little biased
What did you like most about Chosen at Nightfall?
The characters and story were amazing and a joy to listen to. The reader did an excellent job of portraying the story twists as they happened.
What did you like best about this story?
The characters and the plot were all amazing, but I have to say that the characters were my favourite.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
I couldn't choose a favourite scene if I tried, I would honestly keep changing my mind all of the time.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Primarily it made me laugh as have all of the books in this series, but it grips you from start to finish and always leaves ME wanting more.
Any additional comments?
I can't rate this entire series highly enough...BUY THEM ALL!!!
